The mined stats look fine to me. A turret less than Myoukou and slightly less RoF, but far superior traverse. The good traverse also offsets the layout to a degree. Torpedoes are the same. AA is better. Smaller citadel and slightly better armor. She looks pretty strong at Tier 7 to me. I'm not really worried about the balancing...

What I don't understand is why Atago or Tone are being implemented as premiums anyway. Atago is just a Takao. There is basically no difference! Tone is just Tone and should be a regular ship in some kind of aviation line together with Yodo or a branch-off from the CA line. But Maya would have been a great premium at Tier 7 or 8. Less broadside weight but better AA, fancy looking with all the 25mm guns, easy to balance due to the removed turret. I suspect the only reason Atago is a premium is because the Takao-class was modelled already and they wanted to crank out a premium ship quickly. KTKM is obviously a premium, but otherwise WG made some really awkward choices with their cruiser premiums. The Japanese produced so many cruiser concepts and remodels during the war in their desperate attempt to stay competitive that producing premium cruisers - at any tier above 5 - should be extremely easy. But instead we get two bloodless premiums like Tone and Atago.

You get an extremely large amount of XP for capping. I had a game in Minekaze where I didn't hit a single enemy for any damage whatsoever, but I capped their base alone, got about 1300 base XP and finished top of the list. Just for one cap.

The dwindling amount of players of WOWS. Time for statistics & graphs!

You have no right to be treated the same as NA. A moral right, perhaps, but certainly no codified right. Yup, that's absolutely correct. I won't respond to these threads again.- 234 replies

I don't give a monkey's how I come off to other players or the devs. Do I want to be catered to on the basis of my whining? No. If the game approaches a point that makes it unplayable to me, I will stop playing it. It's as simple as that. There are tons of other games I could be playing instead, or I could do something else entirely with that time. I have no obligation to make this game good by pointing the devs to things they are doing wrong. I just can't really empathize with the modern internet mentality that proposes torches, pitchforks and boycotts whenever something doesn't go their way. I'm not obligated to improve this world.- 234 replies

I've only spent about 5€ on a Tacobanana so far, and that's very little compared to the fun I've undeniably had. When Tone gets released in a reasonable way, I will buy her, and even if the game goes downhill after that, I would feel that money/fun_ive_had-wise I had a good time. I don't like a lot of things WG is doing and the balance is still a joke, tons of things are broken, but everyone is starting to make a bad meme out of the whole I-hate-WG thing. You should ask yourself whether the game is worth your time or your money and just decide based on that. It's not like whining is going to change anything.- 234 replies

I don't know. The numbers are stable enough that I, as a developer, wouldn't give up on it. I don't think this game will ever be as popular as World of Tanks, for a large variety of reasons, but I think that the current playerbase can be retained and the game can be financially successful. Some current policies are obviously designed to extract money from us (I'm not denying that), but I wouldn't take that to mean the devs want to milk it for what it's going to give and move on. Besides, the game was in development for quite long. Selling a bunch of Tirpitzes isn't going to make it break even overnight, and we would have to lose 95%+ of the current playerbase to drop down to WoWp levels.- 234 replies

I think it would be very different if you had a way to use leftover XP other than converting it to free XP. I think a lot of people want to stay in lower tiers, but lack goals or targets there. They have the next ship unlocked, but they don't want it. The XP keeps piling up, but they don't need free XP, so they don't have any goals left to grind for. Given how different the handling of higher-tier ships is, and that they're generally less forgiving, I can see how many players would like to stay in lower tiers. Giving those players goals to play for would make a real difference in my opinion.- 234 replies

Hm. Yeah, it's too early to tell.

I mean, think about it. If you land 8 good hits on an enemy cruiser with Nagato with HE from short range, you should get somewhere between 15-20k damage. I think that's plenty enough. The question is whether you can get citadels at 10-12km again or whether those are still overpens.

Technical Demands WOW vs WOT - Advice Needed

I think the loading times are relatively long too, but what you describe is just unusually long. To be honest, I'm inclined to think that your computer is the problem. I play on a laptop from 2011 and I don't have those issues. -
That won't be enough to fix the citadel mechanic. More citadel penetrations will start coming in, especially at long range where the shells dive, but you will still overpenetrate broadside on. World of Cruisers is still real. This is a good time to grind the Japanese line. GIVE ME TONE WG.

What's with all the Kitakami's cruising around.
fnord_disc replied to Micromagos's topic in General Discussion
Well, there's no doubt KTKM profited from the declining CV population since CBT. -
I think they were the norm. But the bogus citadels were so numerous that it felt like you got regular citadel hits. Makes you question how the devs got to their 5% estimate.
-
So, does that mean we can expect Tone in another 3 weeks or so? I really want to buy that ship.

Glad to know it works for you! Well, the video contains a Furutaka, not a Myoukou... but your point stands. I went to GM3D and looked at what you speak of. Fuze is 33ms, muzzle velocity is 775 m/s. Assuming the projectile slows down to about 750 m/s at short range gives a detonator distance of about 25m and Furutaka has 15m beam. Honestly, this looks to me like it's working as intended, and since these are realistic values, I think this would have been an overpenetration in reality as well. No matter the module that you hit, you're not going to absorb 3/4 of the projectiles kinetic energy to slow it down to 1/2 speed, which is what you need to drop below the detonation distance. I mean, think about it. Will some machinery and pipes absorb 142 MJ? [1] Doesn't sound realistic to me. In fact, you do get citadel'd when you angle your cruiser because the distance is more than 25m through the angled ship. It's not intuitive, but this seems to me completely realistic. Perhaps a buff to accuracy of battleships is more meaningful so that they can hit reliably at distances that would allow them to citadel the enemy. Either that or make overpenetrations cause flooding because of damage on the other side. That did happen! [1] speed = 750 m/s -> 375, mass = 673.5 kg.
-
Yes, this is also possible. But at long range the impact angle is steeper, the shell strikes thicker effective armor and more force is applied to the fuze to set it off. Historically, most overpenetrations happened because the shell was not properly set at the outer armor layer. Yes, there are also (quite many) accounts of shells passing through the ship and exploding on the other side, but those are still much rarer than traditional no-fuze overpenetrations, which were quite common.

Well, I sent WG Belarus a cheque to the amount of 100€ and since then I'm always top tier against bad players.

karlshruhe..... uhhhh, forgot i bought a toy from Argos
fnord_disc replied to lethalbizzell's topic in General Discussion
I think the best thing about the Karlsruhe is that it's only tier 4 and you're done with it pretty quickly. Even if you choose to free XP it, the expense isn't that high. Free XP'ing Yorck, though... -

I free XP'd 10k of it because it's not just bad but also really unfun to play. It's just such a massive turd. -
In my opinion the question is whether the money expenditure gives you a unique use. A ship obviously gives you something uniquely useful. It's the main part of the bundle anyway. Doubloons can be used in a variety of ways, and while none of them are unique, some are so annoying (like free XP and retraining) that I'm sure everyone can find a use for doubloons. You can go and say, Hah!, but I want to do that all myself. And that's true. Bundles are bad, but at least you can use doubloons in whatever way you want, at the time that you want. Premium time is a bad addition to the bundle because you can't decide when you want to use it. What if there's a good deal in the shop, but I have no time to play for a week? My premium will just go to waste. Purchasing a bundle with premium time implies having to play a lot immediately to get the best use out of that money, and that is not acceptable. Flags in a bundle are only useful for bad players who never get them naturally and better players shouldn't be blanketed with them. I have more flags than I can mount on my ships except perhaps some of the exotic ones like +secondaries. Personally, a world without bundles is clearly the best, but if WG insists on bundling crapwith everything, this would be my order of preference.

The slower torpedoes also make it very hard to hit destroyers and cruisers, and thanks to minor changes to the AP ricochet mechanic which would reduce citadel hits by the official pre-patch estimate of 5% - at most! - we have now hardly any battleships. No point hunting cruisers with 35kn torpedoes.
