Sure, SEA is what makes or breaks the deal. But Kadokawa still has relatively little to gain from this because of how enormously big Kancolle already is. Their current strategy is just keeping the game alive, players hooked, and churning out peripheral products like LNs and merch. WoWs can't really add anything meaningful to this. WoWs and ARP on the other hand are similar in size and ARP has an economic reach beyond Japan in a way Kancolle doesn't. It would be different if WG ponies up a licensing fee and straight up pays Kadokawa to include their IP, but good luck ever seeing that happen.

If the game lives long enough, there'll be a French tree eventually. Only T10 needs to be a fantasy ship imo, the rest is either paper or real. Which, you know, is a pretty good ratio!

It's unlikely that this collaboration will appear because three things make Kancolle very different from Arpeggio. Kancolle (the game) does not target anybody outside of Japan and discourages foreign players in many ways. Collaborating to target those foreign players is pointless for them. Kancolle is extremely big in Japan: much bigger than WoWs. Collaborating with WoWs to target Japanese players is pointless because WoWs has infinitely more to gain from this than Kancolle. Kancolle has a very different business model from Arpeggio based on selling merch and goodies. Unless the collab somehow makes you buy merch from Japan, there is no point in it. Either way, the benefits for Kadokawa in agreeing to a collaboration are basically 0.

He will mostly play against Scharnhorsts, so the idea is sound. Even now there are a lot more T7 games than T8-10. The matchmaker doesn't guarantee and equal number of top/mid/bottom tier games, only that you don't get a lot of the same in a row. Since the mid-tiers are much more popular than the high tiers in WoWs, T7 and T8 still scrape off a fair amount of that. I have a running spreadsheet for my Nagato and you play as bottom tier significantly less often than mid- or top-tier. If the matchmaker is swamped with Scharnhorsts, the same logic will apply to his Shokaku. You can see this is correct by exaggerating the thought experiment. If the matchmaker has 200 Scharnhorsts and one Montana, what are the chances your Shokaku will actually play the Montana?

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!

I don't doubt that the captains were given such information. The value of angled armor was has always been known. That's why many armor belts are internally angled. It's absolutely plausible to me that the German Navy issued such directives. I just highly doubt that angling for the sole reason of angling and not to close in or get away was practical in real life. I'm not even just talking about the Hippers: if anybody can show me a historical account where the captain angled the ship for the sole purpose of improving LoS armor, I will be very surprised.- 333 replies

Honestly, the tier it's at is also very comfortable. T7 sees a lot less tryhard gaming than T8 and her AP will feast on that.

In my experience, the splash can knock out destroyer engines no matter where the torpedo hits. It's a little silly to theorize about what happened in the game to produce those damage values with so little evidence...

Yeah but did it even hit the midship? And if it didn't hit the midship, then compartmentalization limits those 18k to ~12k. I still don't understand where you see a bug here.

lmao WG makes a lot of mistakes but the comparison to LoL is hilarious.

Yeah, I agree. A lot of battleships have strange section pools as well. Those decks are called casemate decks by the way, even if the ship has no casemates like Yamato. It works against torpedoes. What you list is just the damage calculation, not the compartmentalization. I saw somewhere that torpedoes have a splash effect though.

I don't see why this should happen. In my opinion compartmentalization is relatively realistic. Some HP pools are too low in my opinion, but on the whole, the system makes sense. Hitting someone's bow 20 times and turning it into Swiss cheese normally does not sink the ship. That the midsection of a DD also has less HP than the ship, well, that is kind of stupid.

Why not? First torpedo blows off the bow, second does nothing. Amatsukaze didn't sink from that. Sailed into the dock, repaired, returned to service. There is nothing particularly unrealistic about compartmentalization.

IJN guns are really good if you stay beyond 8km and you will win against American NASA arcs every time. If you can't make this work, it's your own fault. Torpedoing other destroyers is a something you do if you see no better target. Why anybody would rely on their torpedoes to fight destroyers is beyond me.

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!
fnord_disc replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
The 40.6cm guns were production guns and the several were produced. When H39 was cancelled, they used them as coastal artillery. Or do you mean the ones ingame? Those might change, but I don't really think so.- 333 replies

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!
fnord_disc replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
Dunno, they gave the American BBs, Nikolai and so on, lower range specifically because their rangefinders are smaller and not as high up on the superstructure. So an unremodelled Moltke would, following this logic, only have about 13-14km range. Not based on gun elevation, based on the range of ships with similar rangefinders. Fuso A also has 13km. The only one that totally breaks this pattern is unremodelled Kongo. Sure, they can do whatever the hell they want. And they do.- 333 replies

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!
fnord_disc replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
And you understand what this means? That she would have ~13km range in the game and below average AA? It's true that Yavuz got a decent amount of light AA and it's also true that it didn't change her superstructure. But the ship was not in any way comparable to a properly modernized Kongo, Standard or QE.- 333 replies

Mate, I'm not saying H41 is going to be strong enough with those stats. I posted like 10 times that I think she looks weak. But H42/H43/H44 shouldn't be used because they're bigger than Yamato.- 333 replies

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!
fnord_disc replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
The biggest and maddest BB in the game should not be a paper ship. It has to stay Yamato. I completely agree that WG want to make sure Yamato carries the biggest guns in the game. So no H42+.- 333 replies

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!
fnord_disc replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
Yeah. Based on the concealment stats that we have from Tirpitz and Scharnhorst, we can assume their concealment will be "pretty good". The values look slightly better than American BBs and significantly better than Japanese BBs. Maybe going full stealth will actually be a thing and German BBs bumrush the enemy with <13km sea detection. We will see. Tirpitz is also relatively agile, so sure. I mean, Tirpitz is a strong ship at T8, but she has RoF and torpedoes. Taking that away and rewarding it with more survivability and potentially more agility and stealth is... I don't know...- 333 replies

First German BB Leak - STOP THIS PAPER "WHAT-IF" UPGRADE IDIOCY!
fnord_disc replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
I agree with this. Tankiness is not useless, but it isn't as useful as it would be in other games. No matter how tanky a ship is, she can still be damaged with regular penetrations and HE. Maybe the torpedo protection is good and the fire chance low, but damage is taken nonetheless. Also, consider where being tanky is useful. You can soak up damage for allies, but only if you are shot at and not your allies. This means you need to be quite close to the enemy to force them to fire on you instead of your allies, and the enemies might just ignore you anyway no matter how close you are. Besides, I'm not so sure the H classes will be that enormously tanky. Remember, they both have only a 300mm belt. That's Fuso's belt. Getting 10k on a penetration salvo will not be very difficult. Most of this can be repaired, sure, but how is the enemy going to go away if the guns aren't up to the job? Are allies going to kill them all? I'm not really sure how the Hs are supposed to leverage tankiness for their team, how it can make the team win.- 333 replies

It doesn't matter whether you ignore them because the modifiers are the same in %. Kagero will always have better concealment than Fubuki and Fletcher at the same skillset, camo and upgrades.

Also less normalization, which helps enormously with deck armor. I hope I'll be proven wrong, but T9/10 look like lemons to me.- 333 replies

I know that you have to reskill and I know they're hard to use. My stats with Fubuki are not good. Still, if win rate and xp is all you're after and not damage, then low concealment DDs like Kagero will always have a place.
