All I know is that a competent DD player is more dangerous in Ranked than in Randoms, even with CVs.
-
You all know that the current AA system is broken right? If you're trying to maximise your AA on a ship going off her stats, you will be severely let down. Bascially, The AA flag, Air Defense mod, BFT, AFT, Manual fire for AA. From low to high. Once the AA is properly fixed, CV players will cry havoc and will all have more problems dealing out damages.
-
So bye bye Premium time...specially in Ranked season. Perfect!
-
Could it be that the server is having issues? Anyone else can repeat this issue? Failing that, try to start your game in "safe mode" see if it occurs again.
-
Back down to a rank that I cannot go any lower. I feel safe and comfortable here now. CV or DD, I don't care.

Was renting out ships in ranked that good of an idea?
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to Voyanger's topic in General Discussion
If a player has experience with a ship. Fully upgraded, with appropriate Captain skills. I wouldn't mind if that player Rents that ship to play Ranked. For example, I have few Tier 10s in my NA account. But not that many in EU account. So now, I rent the Yamato if I feel like using her. This is the closest anyone will get that will emulate moving of accounts between server regions. These reasons alone are the only reasons that I see them being a net positive to the Ranked. -
What should I buy in premium shop
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to CreepyCoffeeLover's topic in Newcomers' Section
I would keep your money. Wait until the 0.8 + is done. Or until the full CV rework stage is finally done (which means, the live servers are actually a test server while this is on going). So we all are actually "testers". Would you pour money (if you were able) into the Public Test Servers? If you really want to part ways with your hard earned cash (or given if lucky), I'd recommend buying Premium time instead of a ship. That is the best investment you can pour into this game. Warships Premium time gives you up to 65% return per battle. That is HUGE! This will also give you less credit losses per game. After all, the true meta of the WOWS is with in-game credits. Which would force them to purchase credits, ships, flags, camo, etc. To entice you to earn better credits. -
Vigilence really could be useful. But it also needs 3 points, which is huge too. If you have a consumable of Hydroacoustics. I would recommend using that for anti-torpedo. As for the Deep Water Torpedoes (DWP), they have the smallest detection range from you ship. It used to be that when you saw them coming it was basically considered too late to react (all salvos). As for the "IJN CV Stealth torps" Let's clarify something here. They are ONLY stealth, because if the CV captain used her concealment as a weapon. She (the planes itself) can drop torpedoes by being undetected (6.7km Plane detection (full concealment build)/8km Torpedo range) Not the torpedoes. These torpedoes are quite slow in comparison, not hard to dodge them.

Honestly, the player base can take so much until they abandon the game. The ripple effect of odd decisions by WG have left me wondering. Why am I still playing this? Worse case, I it’s free at the end of it all, and I don’t have to pay anything to play. Vote with your wallets, what I did. -
What will you spend your "Provision Tokens" on?
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Anyone else noticed that during Part 1, the amount of Token given per task is more than, Provisions given per task in Part 2? -
So by 2140, AI will take over all human labour jobs. That is what I'm reading.

Flint in the current meta
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to DDMafiaAssociateMember's topic in General Discussion
Have you played Leander? Have your played Clemson? Think Flint as the mixture of the two. Leander since Flint is as weak (in her tier games), and Clemson as her guns. With the current meta. I'm not so sure Flint is a good idea. For odd reason. My Atlanta didn't do well vs CVs even when she is fully AA spec'ed with 19 point captain. Since Atlanta share the same guns as Flint. Your mileage may vary. What is good is that she has Smoke consumable. So you will have more chances of survival or rather, another tool for survival. I was looking at the Flint too. I'm near it. I just have to grind it out to Rank 7. At this rate, I'm gonna fall back down to 11 from 8. If my patience holds out, I will keep the steel. But having a premium ship would mean more credit earning without Premium Time. So that is bonus to think about. -
Well said sir. Unfortunately (for fortunately *insert evil laugh*), I'm one of the CV players in Ranked. It's either that or my Montana. Quite frankly, I'm tired of playing Montana from Clan Battles previous season. So playing CV was a break away for a change thing. Whenever I get into battle. I have witnessed players for no reason just name call the CV players. At 19:50 of the match time. That's 10 seconds into the match. CV player gets pounced on, and for what? Playing CV...please (refer to my *evil laugh*). Also, the players that have a tendency to blame CV players (usually when they are dead). Think that this is RTS CV still. We can ONLY send ONE squadron of planes per launch. Guess what, and only 1 fighter per as per Cool-down period. Sometimes, we used them all already. We can't teleport from A to C or from A1 to J10, with "Roger" (F4 key). So be realistic, and have some sense of understanding of the situation before you jump on the CV player (yours or the enemy CV). While on the subject, the players that do insult CV players in chat. Usually get to be ignored by the CV player. It's human nature. Someone insults you (for no valid reason, other than "You're playing cancer"), then it's understandable when the person who was insulted will be annoyed. I know I would be/am. So moral of this story? If you want team play, keep your personal opinions about particular class of ship to yourself. Don't expect to insult someone then expect help, then insult them again for not helping. Otherwise, if you have a valid point/suggestions in game. I'm all ears.

Getting that Rank 1 status. Patience, and persistence are the words to follow. Literally. Currently, I'm at Rank 10 (down from 8). While I may not be the "purple" player. I do have just over 10k battles combined (two accounts) to have experienced it few times over. Not sure what it is this time around. But, whoa! It really tested my patience on numerous occasions. My hats off to the streamers that do play it, and not lose their cool (taking a break). To continue my tirade of long winded words previous... Few more points I'd like to share. If you're caught at a point where you know you have to (want to turn), but it would expose your broadside. Wait until the enemy's guns have fired. Then execute the turn movement. That will save you from getting few salvos onto your weak broadside (Yamato/Musashi/Montana/hell, all ships types) players take note. Keep your eye on the minimap (that little map icon on the bottom right of screen). It is a real time Generals map table. Ergo, you will see their ships, your friendly ships. What is capped, and what isn't, and what is not yet capped. Know when you back off from "pushing". Too many times, a battle is lost due to players not knowing when to back off and the counter/timer do it's job for you. Use your Radar/Hydro consumables proactively, not reactively. This is an offensive tool. Don't be selfish/foolish and only use it when you see torpedoes headed your way (sign of destroyer nearby). If there are no Destroyers that could Cap. It will fall onto the Cruisers next. Don't be shy to Cap. Capping is necessary (if enemy has 1 cap. and you have none. You will lose by the counter/timer). Battleships should utilise their large HP pool to tank. Don't be afraid to get hit. You have at least 3/4 Heal consumables. Unless you get citadels, you still recover your HP. -

...Continued There various types of map scenarios (categories) in Ranked. Just like Random battle scenarios. Please get comfortable with learning the basic map types. Without this, no matter how hard you try. The enemy will have a chance to beat you. (I'm looking at you, those players that only see sinking ships as a goal all the time) For someone new. Take a minute or two to read the information during the loading phase. Or within the map window itself (Press "M"). From there you can see what will achieve a winning battle. i.e. Capture (capping) gives you X points, keeping the Capture point gives you X points. Or the funky map with a big bullseye in the middle. If someone "caps" the centre circle (inner most) and holds it. The outer rings will also follow. Provided no enemy ship is inside any of those. IMHO. These are the single most important mechanic for the Destroyer players in Ranked. Press "P" key as soon as you start the game. Do not let the enemy CV have easier chance of spotting you. Also, turning the AA off (yes, it's counter intuitive) within smoke also helps. Good CV driver will get few hits on you still. When you know a plane is coming for you. Slow down to half speed. Let your smoke bloom (fully disperse) your movement. Don't go full speed, then try to stop immediately with smoke. Destroyers role is quite simple actually. You still need to spot. CV can spot too but you are more efficient spotter. CV can only spot temporarily while flying its planes around the area. While you can sit in concealment and spot continuously. Let that sink in for a minute. This ship type also needs to Capture points. Why? their small concealment. That is the reason why many players expect Destroyers to do this. You have torpedoes yes. But use them defensively, or by proactive movements you can use them offensively. Also with your smoke. Your smoke consumable is your lifeline, and your weapon. When other Destroyer is in same Cap as you. Try to live. Don't rush sending torpedoes then dying getting enemy torpedoes. You are no use to the team dead. A Destroyer is still a very scary ship. If no one spots them. The big huge bad boy battleships will hold their movements, or too shy to push any grids. Knowing that a Destroyer is near by. The worst type of Destroyer player in Ranked are: The ones that do not cap when it's clear. The ones that just go after a CV by themselves. The ones that torpedoes behind friendlies. The ones that rushes into a cap, then gets sunk first. Staying alive actually helps your team. Even those that are AFK and didn't get spotted. Them being alive means, in the least the enemy team cannot get X amount of points into their points countdown. Also, they will be wondering where this ship is whole game. Throwing them off the game for few minutes. So please don't be that guy... :) -
That is something I've been trying to say for weeks!

LowSpeedHighDrag replied to Hopeless_Guppy's topic in General Discussion
Sorry that you felt that way, but at least your intentions were good. That is what matters, and to have fun. What should not be done, is ruin others fun here or in game. -
I don't mind rented ships. Those that use it will reach their ceiling at some point and probably won't progress further. My issue right now is CVs or rather lack of AA power on dedicated AA ships. I agree about your opinion about Rental ships. They will reach a ceiling at some point (then we all would at some point). My issue is not CVs. My issues are; players intentionally throwing the game, players that do not know how to understand the capture point system. But primarily, the former types are the worst type of players in Ranked.

So you're a new player......
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to Hopeless_Guppy's topic in General Discussion
Instead of being salty about why or how about rental ships in Ranked. Let's be more proactive and positive so that this forum actually serves a purpose. So, in that spirit I'll start. Few things to realise before joining Ranked games. Players who do play ranked generally will have a particular goal in mind (reaching Rank 10, X amount of Steel, etc). Your contribution or lack of contribution is multiplied in Ranked (i.e. 7 vs 7 means, if you die, 14% of firepower is gone vs 8% Randoms). In other words, what you do also has 14% more outcome good/bad in games. That is huge! Ranked is taken more "seriously" than Random battles. Please bring your fully equipped ships only to Ranked. It's better for you, and the team. After Rank 10 you will see more skilled players versus lesser ranks. So expect to lose a lot. Player should be very well aware of the points system in Ranked (Caps = X points per second. BB kills = X points added/subtracted, etc). If you want to just "try" Ranked for the first time, please do. But please do not give up or be lazy in the game. Contribute or you'll lose too. Now, that those are out of the way. Onwards... I will not go into details to what you should or should not do with each class of ships. That is something you already should have a basic knowledge by getting up to Tier 8. If you don't, you will not like (added after typo) what I will say next; then Ranked is not for you. Ranked is not a place to practice/test drive your Rental ships. Do not be selfish and sacrifice someone's time & effort in Ranked. What I will recommend is that you should really communicate. You cannot expect a player understand your intentions. This only comes from a very close team players who worked together for years. This will never happen in here. Solution? Type in chat, use B commands, use Mini-map to ping (highlight) a grid. Oh, on the subject of "pinging a grid on minimap" Do not spam it. It actually makes it more confusing. Worst players are the ones that do not use any communication with their team. I will stop here for now, and wish you all good luck in Ranked. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Greatest for the day? As in today? Playing Ranked with my Hakuryu. -
Maybe you should hide the players names from that screen shot. It's against ToS.
-
Perhaps, however the main problem is that players aren't fully aware of the intricacies of the game still. Anyone ship with a Spotting plane can do this. It isn't limited to just Yamato. If someone didn't anticipate such long range shells. That is on them, not the person taking the shot at them. If that such an huge issue. Go take the captain skill that informs you of incoming shells. Maybe that will help you solve this issue.

Is Bourgogne a real ship design like the Alsace is or isit just a WG Pick'n'Mix?
LowSpeedHighDrag replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Not many can partake in Clan battles. Even so, it would take some great team work and greater understanding of the game mechanic to achieve such amount of Steel vs Coal. I was never happy about Steel ships, up until they took away the grand prize of the "Black" as a steel ship. Now you get a flag. Oh joy. -
I came for TiTs, and got HAVRs.
