Quite a lot of crashing recently (error message inside)
bull31d replied to anonym_Q5pquGmeUT8V's topic in Archive
OK, after not being able to play the game for a number of weeks now, I returned home from a business trip and updated from 5.0.1 to 5.0.3 and hoped this issue would be resolved, but was incredibly disappointed to see that it has, in fact, gotten worse. Now, IF I manage to get into the game, it immediately freezes at the port screen and then crashes to desktop. I started receiving a crash error that seems to indicate it is related to the graphics adapter, but I am honestly not sure what's happening as the game worked fine from June until September and only started having errors after the update to 5.0.1. I know my machine can handle everything just fine; it's an Asus GL551JM, which is more than capable of running the game at or near top settings. I followed the advice posted here about disabling the audio controller and attempting to run the game that way, but that just resulted in my sound not working and the game still crashing. I even attempted a complete re-install to see if that would clear everything up, but still the same results. Here's the bottom line for me: WARGAMING, I and others like me have posted about this issue for a few weeks now and it appears that nothing has been addressed to resolve the issue. I would be more sympathetic to everything if we were still in OBT, but this is well after official release and, as I stated previously, everything worked fine up until the 5.0.1 update. Not having been able to play the game for close to a month now, I see two options for you: 1) reply and reassure all of us that you've got programmers attempting to track this bug down flesh out the compatibility issue so we can get back to playing shortly, or 2) refund the money I've sunk into premium ships and playing time on my account that I very clearly can't use now since this broken update. I have attempted to be very patient in that I know programming is an ongoing process, but this is getting ridiculous. My preference is that you fix the game so I can get back to playing. After dropping roughly $200 on my account between 2 premium ships and multiple gold purchases to convert free XP I'd like to believe my complaints warrant addressing. Sadly, the impression I am left with is that this is not the case. I'll give a few days to address this as it's the weekend now, but if not resolved in a reasonable amount of time I believe I will have to, regrettably, uninstall the game and pursue recovery of my funds by other means. -
Not sure what the issue is as I've seen a few different people discussing similar problems, but the most recent patch has made the game virtually unplayable for me from a stability standpoint. I am confident that I don't have a hardware issue as things have consistently worked fine since the start of open beta. I've only encountered problems since the upgrade a few days ago. Specifically, IF the game loads, I almost always get stuck at the battle loading screen. The game continues to load in the background, but nothing ever happens on my screen. The only fix I have found is that after initiating a battle, I have to force exit the game, reload, and re-login which will then load into the already ongoing battle. When the battle is complete, usually about half the time the game will then crash when returning to the port screen, or the same crash will happen if I attempt to go into another battle. The previous version had everything working great. Whatever changes were made with the most recent update have made it so I don't really care to even try to start the game. I'll just go do something else until the next update patch drops and then give it another chance. Hopefully there is some rapid troubleshooting and this gets corrected.

Thanks FloRead. Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking this about Ranger. -
Carrier disbalance IJN vs USN post update, does not relate to other ships

This is my first post about CVs as I've noticed this topic tends to be very touchy for many people. I don't play CVs as much as I do cruisers or BBs, but I'm up to T7 on the US tree and have been playing the Ranger for pretty much a week straight. In counter point to the OP, any time an IJN CV has made a genuine effort to sink me, they've done it. You can't defend against four bomber squadrons with one squadron of fighters, especially if that squadron gets engaged by the enemy fighters first. I don't know if my experience is just based on the fact that I'm only up to T7 US CV and not higher, but in my experience, I get pretty much annihilated any time I'm up against an IJN CV. It's entirely possible that I'm just not that good of a CV player, but for the most part any time I square off against IJN T7 CV, it's guaranteed that my squadrons are going to get wrecked. I'm not sure what everyone is talking about with respect to the US CVs running the board with everything, unless that's just at T8 and above as that's not been my experience in the slightest. The IJN CVs might have fewer planes per squadron, but how are you supposed to compete with between two and three squadrons of fighters, plus two squadrons a piece of TBs and DBs? I understand that things cannot be "equal," but this seems a little overboard. I don't play CVs often enough to comment on the differences between the bomber squadrons, but I've just noticed that Ranger is pretty much useless against Hiryu unless you catch the bombers off on their own without the fighter squadrons. In my opinion, even though the US CVs have the six planes per squadron, they just can't match two or three separate IJN fighter squadrons and hope to hold up. On a somewhat related note, the whole "barrage" thing seems kind of like a joke. On the few times I've actually been able to get it to work, it's only managed to shoot down one plane per squadron of whatever's in the line of fire. So if, for instance, I'm trying to "barrage" the four IJN bomber squadrons about to drop on a ship, the best outcome is the barrage puts down one plane from each squadron. That's still six torpedoes and six DBs dropping on that ship. It would seem like a better plan to just engage one squadron normally as at least that will have a higher chance of stopping or wiping them out before they can engage the ship. Couple that with the fact that if you are attempting to use the barrage, but an enemy fighter squadron attacks you before you start the run then your planes are stuck getting shot at and they don't fight back. Basically they're dead in the water until they're all shot down or the enemy planes run out of ammo. I'm hoping things will get better once I get up to T8, but right now this just seems like a complete imbalance at this tier; however, I'll defer judgment to those who play CVs more consistently. -
Seems like an appropriate place for this (+1 if its already been brought up and I missed it). Just one thing I'm a little disappointed with, not looking to do anything else than float this for consideration: I finally made it to the top of the US cruiser tier last night and bought my Des Moines. I love to play it so far, with one exception: the service price costs an arm and a leg. Even when winning a match (and doing pretty well overall) the service price is still anywhere from 80-150k more than the winnings. Basically, it 'costs money' to play the tier X ship I just spent forever working to get. Now, I took a ton of damage on my most recent match so I know service would be more expensive, but with just shy of 100 hits on enemy and 3 ships sunk, I would think that my team's win along with my personal performance in the match would outweigh any service cost to the ship. After all that work to finally get to Des Moines, it's just a little frustrating that I HAVE to play other ships multiple times in order to make up the cash that I'm inevitably going to need to cover service price on my cruiser since I'm consistently losing money with it even on a win. It may just be that I'm not a stellar player and other people aren't running into the same issue though. Other than that, this is my first real issue with the game. I have enjoyed playing it and look forward to the rest of the nations finally being released. Thanks for your consideration.

This is understandable. Thanks for the info. Just wanted to update and say thanks as it appears things have been adjusted with the most recent patch. I've played a few games in my Des Moines since the changes were made and I've noticed I'm at least breaking even and sometimes turning a profit with a good game at T10. I'm sure this is only because I'm currently on premium status based on the amount of money I receive post match as I'm pretty confident on standard account status I'd still be losing money slightly. Nevertheless, I'm pretty confident this issue was adjusted and I appreciate it. I can now play my T10 ship a number of times without fear of losing all my credits. I appreciate the developers looking into this.

Thanks for the replies and those comments make sense. I guess part of my response would be in a question: If it isn't an issue for everyone to play tiers 1-5 together at the same time (for arguments sake) then what's the issue with everyone playing tier 10 together at the same time? The one thing about matches where everyone is the same tier, be it 1, 2, 10 or anywhere in between, is that in those instances there is still room for variance, i.e. did you buy a hull/cannon/range upgrade or not? Did you buy any special upgrades? What captain skills did you invest in? Also, in instances of same tier matches, what really shines through is teamwork and tactics. Because everyone is very evenly matched, the game really comes down to how you communicate and work as a unit. The team that works together will be the side that wins. Further, it would seem that there will always be new players coming into the game. In that sense, there will always be new blood coming in trying to make it to the top of the tier, thereby ensuring a variety of tiers and skill levels present in the matches (if variety is really a core issue). Ultimately, it is slightly discouraging that after working so hard to finally make it to the top I can't regularly play my top tier ship without slugging it out on the lower tiers to make enough money to cover service prices after the match, even if I pull out a win. This doesn't even account for adding available upgrades and the cost associated there. My main point is that this issue is kind of a turn off for me at least and I hope the developers will consider adjusting the compensation after a match so I'm not losing $100k or more each match with a Tier 10 ship.
