Yorck slow and big??? Most agile GE ca i played so far.... -
I sold hipper 5 months ago to buy the roon. I kinda regret it. From what i remember hipper was very tough boat to kill. When angled i was able to cut the distance from tirpitz without land cover, bounce 7 out of 8 hits (per salvo that he landed on me) and when i got inside 5 km of range tirpitz got me for total of 8k hp. I launched all 4 torp banks and sunk it. So hipper followed yorck logic of perfect 1 vs 1 brawler. Bow on armor is great, i dont remember ever get citaled thru bow, Same as yorck. AP are much better than yorcks but HE is worse which is understandable. Torps are the same, sonar and fighter. Both use bf-109 while roon switched to Focke Wulf 190. Yorck has much better manouvering abilities. That thing can dodge anything thrown from 4 ships at the same time. Amazing. I did have rudder shift mod on yorck but also put on hipper and it just isnt as agile. Probably cause hipper is somewhat bigger boat than yorck. However, on more than few occasions hipper was agile enough to sail between shima torps, get close to light it up with sonar and then put torps into him in revenge. I never did it with roon so far. Hipper has the same flaw as yorck tho. If u go close to exploit its strong side, great bow armour, torps combined with fast guns, agility, and u start brawlin a bb or some poor jap ca, and in the middle of the fight u realize he has 2 more buddies close by, ur dead quickly. U need to show broadside to atleast one of them and then ur dead. So both boats need to use extra judgement. When ur 100 % sure that ur target is alone, bring that fighter up anyways. Wait for a full circle and if nothing else lights up, move in. Just as about any german ship it will reward brave play but it will punish slightest mistake that u make. Very challenging but when u get that fight where made no mistakes, put in 3 or 4 kills, with a cap and 100+ k of dmg and 8 citadels, u will wear grin on ur face for a week And then they start coming more and more often... Its a very nice ship, it can dominate even uptier bbs when played smartly (not yamato tho, never go brawling with yamato). Too bad i figured it out rather late, but i will rebuy it when i get enough silver, just like i did with konigsberg.

LOL...Just today i got torped by friendly aoba after chasing mutsuki in my gneisenau. Dodged mutsukis first salvo, put a torp in him, went into smoke to find him again took a few torps from second salvo but used dcp and finished him off by main guns. So i decided to stay in the channel until my dcp drops to 30 secs so i can go into a battle again without fear of some cleveland lighting a bbq on my deck.... Out of nowhere comes a torp spread at my starboard side, i am creeping along at 1/4 and just no way i can accelerate before i get hit... took a torp and flooded. For the first time in 4k battles and about 50+ friendly deaths i lost nerves and shot a full salvo at his side... Not nice... i know.. i regret it...but when he said it was not his fault cause he launched it when he was 8 km away (read 8 km behind me, a ca, and he lets a BB brawl a DD in a knifefight while he is hiding in the back).... i just couldnt restrain myself.... I do apologize for my anger shot and calling him "intelectualy deficient", i never did it before, but pls ppl if u r scared of sinking, dont play cruisers.
-
There is a way u can counter inconsistency, but it requiers nerves of steel. I did struggle with the same problem, one game i would land 2 cits at 10km and the next game same situation and i would miss miserably. Its a thing i learned with colorado and north carolina. Applied to Gneise it also work only marginaly worse than those 2 US bbs. Due to worse spread i guess. A thing i picked up in WOT when using howitzers (derp guns) on M4 and Pz 4H. When u turn ur turret and that aiming circle narrows down i used to wait 3 more seconds (sometimes 4 or 5) to shoot unsuspecting target. U could actualy snipe with derps that way. Was even called a cheater because those shells were flying dead center of the aiming circle. It seems that same mechanics work with WoWs guns, judge target speed and course, take enough lead and than wait a bit... dont fire as soon as turrets align cause spread will be awful. I try to do min of 4 secs wait and then squeez off a salvo. Dont do sequential fire cause i feel the spread is much worse that way. Its ok to do it with CA or CL but not with BBs. Single salvo after the wait and u can get a neat tight spread even with those horrid 380 mms. But its nerve wrecking system... sometimes targets will wiggle right after u took a shot but its a game of nerves anyway. I am still trying to get used to Gneisanau guns (after 30 battles) because they dont behave like Bayerns. I do feel that aim and wait trick improved accuracy enough to get consistent hits but u still need a touch of luck to hit citadels. On the other hand if they fix accuracy on Gneisanau that ship would be unbeatable. Its very hard to play against it as it is, imagine if u could cut in half HP of enemy before u got to torp range, it would simply kill any joy in playing colorado and nagato. And those 2 are already in a bad spot as it is with Gneise and Scharn. I dunno about other ppl but i have fun playing Gneisenau even when i fail. Just because she is so damn beautiful, sleek lines, perfect bow... Just looking at her gives me joy
-
Well it took me 2 days to grind thru Bayern. I did get prem acc for 24hrs and put some exp flags on it so i could get 5-6k exp per win. Wasnt too bad. As much as i remember that boat, stock it was horrific. A jump from koenig laser 305s to Bayerns 380s was painful too. Something like a cross from Nurnberg to Yorck. I remember that it had great armor, when angled it took forever to sink it. And in the mean time u could take down a coupla ships with you. I never used any modules on it since i was saving credits for gneisenau. Just regular upgrades and in the end i got so good with it that i could reliably land cit hits on cruisers even on 15km. Not an easy thing to do with those 380 mm guns but when u get used to them they can realy hurt ppl. Last few fights i had so much fun with Bayern that i was thinkin about keeping it as fun boat. But i needed credits for Gneise so i decided to sell it and get that beauty of tier 7. However, if it helps, go for hull upgrade first. Its a major thing. Ship behaves so much better with upgraded hull. After the hull i went for engines cause i wanted to dodge those torps as much as possible. Targeting sys i left for last since i used it as a brawler anyway so it made no difference to me. Summary, it was a painful start, a lot of hate and bad words between me and bayern and in the end we were crying when relationship came to an end. Strange boat that i loved in the end.

I am not a BB skipper altho i play all types. So far grinded up to Gneisenau and i think its not the ships. For instance i hated nassau, was ok with kaiser, fell in love with koenig. Those are very different ships and they need to be played differently. Koenig has guns similar to ge CL in terms of travel time and arcs. Insanely accurate and shell speed gave me pens in angles where Bayern shells bounced. So i had to rework my approach with bayern but i was so spoiled by koenig guns that bayern made me sick. Eventualy i got used to those 380's and by the end of the grind started to do well with them. I even sniped myoko head on from 16 kms away and got 2 cits from 4 hits. Fired only bow turrets since i was heading straight in to the heart of the fight. Nope, i wasnt camping... So Bayern can hit nice and accurate but u realy need to give it time. Its not Koenig but its not supposed to be. Gneisenau is a hard ship to play. I do love it so much. It rewards brave play but it will punish stupidity. Its not for everyone. Heard ppl complain that it cant hit anything. Well accuracy is somewhat down compared to Bayern and shells are i dunno, wierd. It could be me but i feel that shells are faster than Bayerns but they have the same arc and tend to overshoot. I aim at watterline and they fall over on the other side of the target. So i need to aim under the watterline in order to hit. And thats shooting at broadside (or close to it) targets. I played a lot of ships in all types and i never had to aim that way. I am getting used to it but actualy this ship realy shines in brawls. So those longer range weird shots are not much of concern for me. I always try to smuggle that tiny tincan into knife fighting distance. Torping dds with a BB is somewhat a poetic justice on a cosmic level. Thank u WG! Thank u so much!!! So far i dont feel any of those ships is worse than those of other nations. Maybe Bayern is an underdog vs New Mex but i grinded thru new mex a long time ago so i realy dont know. From my experience those 12 guns firing lake lasers just shred anything infront of me. Fusos would die in 3 salvos, no problem. I do feel when played right New Mex should own bayern. I think Colorado stands a chance against Gneise only if it stays between 12-15 km of range. Very hard considering the speed difference between them. If Gneise cuts the distance Colo will die quickly. Nagato i know nothing about except that in Gneise i take them out easy when i get to 4-5 km of them. Torps + good secondaries + main guns + staying under sharp angle to minimize return dmg... No problems so far... When i think of it Gneise does feel a bit OP on its own tier. Maybe Scharn can be a real danger since its very similar ship only significant difference is in gun cal and reload time. Same armor, same torps, similar speed... But Scharn drivers seem a bit, i realy dont want to insult anyone, a little bit dumb. Not all of them, but a good number of them dont know what are they supposed to do. Just today i managed to sail between 2 division Sharnies and torp them both. Sunk them both in 20 secs. What realy amazed me was that i survived and sailed on right into Donskoi and Atago that shred me to bits. So when i see Scharnhorst on my team i pray to Neptune that its not a tier 4 kid who had a credit card... I would rather have another Gneisenau cause i know that guy had to grind his way up there and probably learned a few tricks. All in all this GE BB line is a real refreshment to the game, no matter u hate it or love it i think it was just what the game needed.

I nearly dropped the entire line when i got to mutsuki after minekaze. I found one very smart dood here on forum who explained that i am actualy doing everything wrong with mutsu. Cap and spot is the primary function of the boat. Good speed and good camo are the strong sides of the mutsu. Due to torps speed u realy need to plan ahead if u decide to attack. I used to hide behind land to intercept target, pop out close, launch and run like a bat from hell....But only when i needed to defend my cap point. Low damage and just a few kills but the exp was good thanks to cap points. Its a pain if u love to shoot up things and hatsuharu follows the same logic. But Fubuki makes up for all that. I just love fubu so much i didnt buy kagero altho i have it unlocked. I would need to sell fubu to get enough credits and i just wont do that. Fubu is a keeper for me, altho i am realy anxious about tier drop its gonna suffer in the near future. With fubuki u really can do everything, cap, spot, kill... Whatever situation dictates. So mutsu and hatsu are a worthy grind. And i would advise against free XP. Playing those 2 to the fullest will teach u how to sneak, when to go full power and when to creep at 1/4, how to stay invisible and use it to surprise ur foes... Its actualy an important segment of fubuki play so arm urself with some nerves of steel and just grind them thru.

I hear ya skipper. Not just that i own it, i spent like 20 mil credits to buy the ship and fine tune it. Camo module, 5th skipper skill, dropped detection to 5.5 so i can use torps from shadows and cap/spot like a ninja.... Now if they nerf torp range, speed. or remove a torp bank its weeks of effort and bunch of credits and even some dobloons just gone up in smoke. Its my favourite DD, this setup was very costly but it works very nicely at tier 8, and that was the whole point. I am afraid that nerfing it will just ruin all the hard work i put in it. I dont care about credits, but i would never try so hard to make the boat competitive in a tier 10 fight just to lose all the edge to get dropped 2 tiers down. For example how many ppl took captain to 5th skill on mutsuki and spent 3 mills on camo module? So u can use 50kts torps against fuso that u never hit anyways unless ur at 2 km range.... Even removing a turret on b hull would cripple the boat. Atleast the gameplay i am using with it. I think i'm gonna cry...

another Hatsuharu hate thread... is what comes next worth freexping it?
CPL_Sivi replied to ulcusrodens's topic in Destroyers
Actualy thats exactly what i do with my fubuki. Camo module with 5th perk got stealth to 5.5 km and thats just awesome to play with 10km torps. Sometimes i just rush BB and sometimes i spam from safety. U have much more options than with mutsu or hatsu. Those ships are spot cap first, damage second. I had same problems when i advanced from minekaze, almost abandoned the line. Then found a thread that explained how to use those two things and finished the grinds. Fubuki is much better in my opinion. Grinded thru but i didnt get the kagero yet. 3X3 setup looks much more fun than 2X4. Kagero can wait. -
Just yesterday took her for a spin, butchered myoko with ap... close range broadside, that thing was dead in 15 secs. I just love that lill thingie
-
Well i was happy when i sold it . Me and colo just didn't got along. I even freexped last 20k cause i couldnt take it anymore. Now NC is a blessing for me after colo. Even stock i feel she is so awesome that she doesnt need actual upgrades. Only downside from colo is turning speed.Everything else is real upgrade. Speed, armour, accuracy, range, damage per shell, penetration, even AA on stock hull is superior than upped Colo. I will get her a steering mod and i suppose things will improve with b hull. I will not trash colorado cause it probably is not as bad as i felt it. But i am so glad that torture is over for me For all of u that feel the same pain, NC is the cure. She will put smile back on ur face so Colo is worth the grind.

You are so right about this. I was struggling with mutsu so badly i end up selling it. Just piss*d me off. Then i red what you wrote and decided to give it a go again. Had some credits, few port slots so i said what the heck. Used it mainly as a spotter/caper and she brought a ton of xp. For instance, last game only 1 torp hit for 10k dmg (no kill), 3 shell hits for 1 kill, but 2 cap points taken and she got 2 160 base xp and was top boat in the team. We won on points mainly because of the cap mutsuki taken. I had lousy 11k dmg that game and managed to finish off damaged kiev with guns and was amazed when i saw how much xp i got. So i use her exactly as you said and its almost enjoyable. Its not a fun boat like minekaze, not a killer altho she can kill. Had a few lucky kills at max range cause ppl blundered into torps but i use her mainly to spot, cap and suppress enemy away with wide torp spreads. So far its working like a charm. From 30% winrate i used to have (disaster, i know) she is now to 45% and climbing rapidly. Thanks for the info u gave here, i was ready to quit dd line on jap side because of it. I owe u a case of beer if we ever meet in rl

Dont get me wrong but if aimed right no one can dodge myokos he salvo from 5 km. Even 8 km is still too close for a dodge if u r in a ca.

CPL_Sivi replied to ApesTogetherStronK's topic in Cruisers
Well yorck is much more agressive then nurn and koni. Those are mid to long range ships or stern fighters. They are designed that way. Dash in range fire broadside salvo or 2 and then run before hell brakes loose. They cant stand hits and specialy nurn has a problem there bcs of slow turn rate. Koni is much more agile. But yorck is a whole new ball game. Close combat is where it realy shines. But 1 vs 1. Multiple enemies yorck cant handle without backup. But if u manage to isolate iowa and push within 5 km of range u win. Perfect torp run deals 50k dmg per side. It takes maybe 10 or 15 secs to switch sides if u launch from max forward angle. No bb can withstand that. And unlike nurn or konig yorck has tough armor. I never got citadeled when my bow is facing bb. So armor gives u very good chance of surviving 3 or 4 bb salvos until u get in range for a perfect torp run. On bbs of lower tier u can even have some fun blasting them with ap from point blank range. I was getting 15 k dmg per salvo with no cits on kongo and fuso. Takes about 3 or 4 salvos to dispatch a full hp kongo. Yorck can be a ton of fun but like all germans its a very hard ship to play. Even after 300 games in it i get stuck in a bad streak but its a life of a cruiser skipper. U just suck it up and keep pushing. The only major flaw i have in all cruisers is that they are very team dependant. Specialy in ge ca line. Watch closely that map cause if u end up alone on the flank, u r as good as dead. -
Dunno what to say. I got roon before 055 so i dont know if the patch nerfed it. While i was playing it i only had probs with ijn he shells. Hipper would catch fire easily. AP shells lower than 406 mm wouldnt do much damage. Close quarters with tirpitz last fight i took 8k dmg before i sunk it. No cits and most bounced. 406mm tends to hurt even angled. Broadside is wipeout in one salvo but all cruisers i played die in seconds broadsided. So i guess its either the patch or just bad streak. Armor in general should be better than yorck.

Yeah had a bad start with that thing and didnt play it all the way... but 1 vs 1 killed cleve a bunch of times... once killed 2 of them by myself in a single game... take up one and set up a training room i'll show ya if u dont trust me. Altho i sold it, but never mind... i just rebought konig so i use that instead It will kick arse just the same. -

My experience is quite opposite. Same situation, omaha stranded at 10 km, 2 salvos midships above waterline 4 citadels, dead. He swing one salvo back and set me on fire, aoba and ruhe were his backup and i was with me myself and i. Shift fire on aoba , 3 salvos 3 cits, dead but i got second fire going and used dcp. Only kruhe left, 4 salvos no cits but ruhe is hurt badly runing away. Last hit he got on me set fire again and i burned. It took karlsruhe to finish me off lol. I think it was just really bad luck that u had in that fight not being able to finish off that omaha quickly. I find cleveland to be easy kill when i outmanouvre her. Push her into broadside fight and cleve dies even with no cit hits. Only if cleve switches to ap it stands good chance cause those really hurt when broadsided. Fortunately most plyrs stick to he and those lack punch. Fires take long to kill nurn at full hp and i manage to finish cleve off before i burn down. Only serious flaw is bb cit hits from any angke. That was, luckily, rectified with yorck but nirn needs to stay away from bbs in order to live. Also i really had no problem sinking any dd no matter the tier. I usualy switch to he but not always. Fast rof and accurate guns have them melt like icecream in august sun. No probs at all. -
Yup. Close range yorck is the best cruiser i played so far. Just yesterday did 168k dmg and put down 3 ships before myoko burned me down. Turned lost game into a win. She is murderer close range, thats for sure. I was short on credit to buy the roon but i just couldnt sell her. Sold hipper new mex and minekaze instead
-
i also managed a bow cit on atago but I did it to zao too from full astern. both with hipper guns. but I can't say its a common thing. I feel those were lucky shots.
-
I find hipper enjoyable. I miss agility of yorck and thats actualy the only flaw i found in it. It was good enough to sink 2 teamed-up pepsis at close range while taking only 15k dmg herself. Now thats 20 USN guns vs 8 german guns at the same time (i know pepsi is tier 7, but still 20 guns is awesome firepower). Not many cruisers can do that. But of course experience with any ship is purely individual. What i like you won't and vice versa. Only problem i find with hipper is against well angled targets. APs dont cut it. Tier X on many fights also tends to be frustrating, but then u have a game where u sink a 40k of hp charging Zao in 1 vs 1 and live to tell the tale. U gotta love that. All in all i was sad when i realized i have to sell it. Just didnt have enough credits to get the Roon and as LakeTheAce stated, 7 mills made the difference. I had only 2 games with stock Roon but it was worth every penny. Thats a monster of a ship. What hipper does good, roon does better.

I dont quite get that rudder shift... if u talking stock hull then it is somewhat slow to turn. Mine has upped hull and i bought her mod for rudder. She is so easy to handle now that i cant remember last time i took a torp hit from a dd. The most agile german boat i played so far.
-
I enjoy GE CAs very much. But its a hard tree to play. Its not gonna be a walk in the park. I am up to hipper now, some 20k exp from roon. From my experience (urs could be different tho), i only struggled with karlsruhe. Just couldnt get that boat to work. I could even advise u to freexp past it but not before u give it a try. I saw some ppl having good games in it. From Konigsberg up its just joy for me. Koni has a modul glitch, if someone takes a look at u, engine or steering gears fall to the bottom of the ocean. In most cases both. Together with a main turret, torp tube, main mast and flag pole. If u have Italian crew they will be swimming at the nearest island when first red symbol shows on minimap. But its a good ship. Use situational awareness and fire alert ASAP cause u realy need to dodge just about anything flying ur way. Nurnberg is a sturdier boat, broadside she is citadel city but angled only bb can hurt it to some extent. Rapid AP fire, good traverse, fighter plane and OP sonar makes her a perfect dd killer, and when u get close enough it murders Cleveland with rapid AP shots to broadside. Then its my love, the yorck... a lot of ppl hate it, i just cant get enough of her. Then u get to hipper. In general an upgrade, but facing a tier X u realy need to use alot of tactics. Those awesome APs cant do much on Yamato or Montana so i stay clear of them unless i have a chance of a torp run. Maybe support mates with HE to finish them off quicker, but i never try to brawl them like i do Iowa in Yorck. Hipper not build for that. From what i saw of roon its just AP machine. A monster. Saw some ppl in my team do horrific damage with that thing. Didnt get there yet but i cant wait. I will give some thoughts as soon as i rob a bank for 13 mil credits to buy her
-
That summs it up. I only disagree about maneuverability (cant believe how hard that word is to write). My fully upped hipper feels like a brick compared to yorck. actualy yorck feels like Koni when turning. When u upgrade hull that is. Easy to dodge both shells and torps if u r alert. In open watters u just need to keep some distance from 16" bbs and high tier jap CAs (no, i dont mean camping, just have them at some 14 km so u can dodge faster shells). Need no fear of 14" bbs but a smart angle is a must. If they have no support, bow into them and torp them from 3 km or closer if u can. U just cant miss from that close no matter what that BB skipper does. After 200 battles that move is still so much fun for me
-
that might be true but i never managed to do it with myoko. Turrets are just too slow to align, enemy has to be realy dumb to keep sailing broadside in a straight line long enough for a precise salvo. I did it with yorck while myoko was in a hard starboard turn and she was not broadside, i think that skipper tryed to go for a salvo with all turrets and yorck just didnt give him enough time. Myoko can bounce AP shells, thats true, but i think that yorck does it better. I was dev striked from a fuso salvo sailing bow in to him. 30k dmg to the command bridge. Never happened with yorck. It just doesnt take citadel hits when ur sailing ur bow straight to the BB. Yorck will take damage, but not massive one like myoko. I think that was a mistake on my part expecting myoko to pull off stuff that yorck does with ease. I realised that myoko does massive HE damage mid and long ranges and i use her to burn the enemies right to the watter line. To rule brawles she needs faster turrets and forward torp angle. I did kill a bunch of yorcks with my myoko but only cause yorck skippers make a fatal error of turning tails and running away from me. With inferior speed and HE damage yorck will die cause she cant outrun myoko and in stern vs bow fight when both ships can use only 4 guns myoko will eventualy win. Thats why i always try to get yorck under 5 km range of myoko, yorck will take her out with ease there. Smart torp launch will get that myoko manuever broadside for AP swing. Either she takes torps or citadels so u get a win-win situation close range. Now by no means i am saying that myoko is bad ship or that she is worse than yorck. Im just pointing out in which situations myoko gets inferior to yorck. For example, when u hold myoko between 10-15 km range yorck has little chance of defeating her. AP travels too slow and HE has less damage than myokos. Torps are too short to reach and myoko will win. I think that both are well balanced ships and they both excel or suck at certain areas. For me yorck setup suits my playstyle much better than myokos. I just love killin BBs close range with a ship thats is generaly underestimated. I am just trying to picture myself a look on the Iowa skipper face when he realized that he cant dodge 6 german torps rushing at 64 kts from 2 km away... Unfortunately myoko just cant do that. And for me thats superfun. So i admit i like yorck better than myoko.
