Chaps So the French BBs are coming soon The last full BB line that came out was the RN and from the CV captains perspectives, it brought a mixed bag of possible targets. Medium and short range AA guns summed up that line nicely which made them dropable but the planes losses could be equally high. The lion and the Conquer have a good amount of AA mounts and when spec they can bring alot of bofors to a good range (AFT and BFT is the only ones needed, and alot of RN BB players as well as other BB line Captains use these skills). Bombers get hit the hardest and i have lost alot of planes doing drops. However, torp drops arent so much of a problem as there long range aa isn't up to scratch. Thank god, imagine if they brought that medium range aa to 7.4 km . I know, i have the Lion full AA spec and it wrecks planes i can tell you that. You treat RN BBs with respect and line up the target way before you drop spending little time in his inner bubble. I would rather hover over a IOWA than a RN ship. Monarch, Queen Elizabeth and KG have respectable AA for its tier and being a BB but nothing that would stop a wave of planes like a NC or Bama would. The question is.....What is the French BB line gonna bring CV captains wanting a trophy for the wall? Is it going to be another US BB Line with all-round strong AA, or the IJN with generally weaker AA, or the Germans with good AA, or another RN line with very good AA abet at medium/short. You could say the last 2 BB lines have average/good AA (for a bloody BB anyway) so is this yet another line that will put new CV captains off? Or will it be a CV respite from the wall of flack knocking around? Like to hear your opinions, worries and possible strategies for the new players...

Most will be going into "Clan" mode now with hydro and the like.. So they nerfed US fighters (Essex and Midway). Was it needed? Cant speak for the Midway but the Essex didn't the nerf
-
Oh, i have never one-shotted a BB with AP bombs to date ...I know. True story. I have completely crippled them but never fully destroyed one.....RNG god
-
The AP bomb... IMHO there is nothing wrong what-so-ever with the AP bombs, its a risk any CV captain takes The OP was in the Tirps, the worst ship to be in when the enemy is tooled up with AP bombers so i can understand his pain...To a small extent. The Tirps is a secondary monster, tanky, good guns and a bawling fighter. It can deal with other BB's, CA and DDs. But its main weakness regarding other lines is the CV. It has pitiful AA which is a god send to a CV captain. Lets be honest here, the NC, BAMA, KII, even the BIS and Nag (when spec) can wipe planes out of the sky. There can be no single ship that can be best at everything right? The tirps big weakness is a CV and more importantly, AP bombers. COME TO PEACE WITH IT. You have to take into account: 1) You have a CV game (1 out of 3 chance?) 2) You have a US CV on the enemy team (50/50) 3) A US CV AND carrying AP bombs (1 out of 3 chance?) If the stars are aligned then your, i'm afrade, in trouble. But the MAJORITY of the time you will be saved from waves of AP bombers right? You can still own the sea with a very popular tier 8 Premium. Its the choice you make when you select the Trip in the port. You have to take into account that a enemy CV might wreck this great ship. The same as if i pick a AA ship but get put into a match with no CV....Or pick hydro over the AA spec and you have a CV in the game with only one dd? So what can you do? Spec into more aa, it might take that extra few planes down that will limit the drop. Yes you might have to sacrifice other captain skill and mods but ITS A CHOICE. ASK(Beg) the CV captain to keep any eye on you. I would love to say that your CV captain knows what he is doing and will identify that as the enemy CV is something like the ENTERPRISE, he will know that YOU will be his first/second target. But some CV players arnt that smart so tell him. I always keep a set of fighters close to a BIS and TIRP if they are on my team Keep those chaps happy. Pair up or follow a AA ship. Keep close to one and change your tactics. Don't expect to do the usual solo charge and live with a CV around. But to be brutally honest, if you are on your own then your toast if the CV player is half swiched on. Remember chap, the CV who choice the AP bombs have taken a risk. Please look at the from the other guys preservative (i know its hard when your his main focus) He cant bomb DDs....At all. You might have AP bombs but the 3 DD and 2 CL players next to you are having a party Regarding the above. That's 5 ships safe from AP bombs with only you in half trouble? That's taking one for the team and do you think that was a good choice for the CV player? I think not... You might be the only german BB on the whole team. I can tell you that AP bombs don't do that much against IOWA, MIS, BAMA, NAG, AMIGI ect. Dropping an Iowa results in little damage and the loss of nearly all your planes. RNG is massive regarding US CV. I have dropped a Tirp and only done half the damage i would normally do. RNG GODS! The only CV i personally take AP bombs for is the ENTERPRISE. Its the right MM for them.

I mean god sake, I really wanted to buy this national treasure. I mean its a tribal class which had some of the most difficult assignments you can give a ships Captain. I'm not even a dd player and I would have brought this....But not in this state. NOT A CHANCE. Get a grip WG and sort it out.
-
Nail on the head. You know this, I know this and everyone else knows it but WG is unable to grasp this, again. 4x2 guns, health consumable and smoke. Sorted, that was hard
-
Yeah because the tribal class was famous for their hydro ...Crap guns and crap torps. Will miss thank you.
-
Thanks for the insight and much appreciated

Be interesting to hear your final verdict on the subject. I can't have 2 tier 10 CV's when i have grinding to do on other lines! I can: 1) Buy back the Huk now, just keep it and actually play a game in her (i sold it before i had chance, don't ask) 2) Grind the Essex as I'm doing now Talking about grinding, after 4 years i've brought the Pens at last (stopped at the Cleveland and never looked back). What a pants ship if I've even seen one. I hope to god that the gun upgrade makes a difference as i'm not seeing these 203 shells do much damage against BBs AT ALL. 500, 600, most at the moment . I would go as far as saying that its the worst cruiser (tier for tier) that i've played in. DD AP wrecks you. DD HE wrecks you for a matter of fact True story One on one against a Shores who was going for the cap. I seen the writing on the wall and pulled back to defend. I had the element of surprise as he didn't know i was coming (sailing behind rocks). Free shot within 7km, cit but he only lost 1/4 health. I angled and prepared to defend myself. Three of his salvos later i was dead. Complete brown bread. My second shots ricocheted with modest damage (down to half) Timings of battle: My go Fired full salvo to his broadside and 1/4 of his health gone (cit). Expected more but incoming now. His go He fired 2 full salvos before i could (15 sec reload) whilst i was angled. 3/4 health gone with 3 cits from the front My go With 3/4 of my crew dead including the ships cat, i eventually fired back..........Ricocheted most but 3 got through, he had 1/2 left. His go fired salvo and i'm dead. No cits but normal damage. Summary I had to fight that close to get the surprise shot in and i know that brawling is not how play her. It's a 2nd line ship that HAS to kite (although she isn't great at that either.) Give me any-other tier 6-7 cruiser in the game and i would have murdered him and saved the day. Give me the Pens and i looked like a mong. We lost because of it too which was a bitter pill to swallow. I hope the hull upgrade and guns make a difference. But 2.500 more HP is peanuts if a 9mm bullet can pen the hull. I just hope that extra valosity help. 15 secs reload is painful for a ship that has to rely on her guns to do damage as her armour is tin foil. I can not even begin to image what this was like to play before the buff. Thank god she is going down to tier 6. Apologies for posting that dross in here (will flog myself later) but needed to get it off my chest fellow captains

That looked like a right game m8! Goes to show regardless of how many planes you can shoot down, if the enemy CV can sink the ships (like your enemy did, 4 times), then you will lose. Hence why the AS set up was ALWAYS PANTS. Looked like he was a good player too, are you aloud to disclose his name?
-
I didn't think she would be (tier 8 torps) and knowing my playstyle the Haku would probably suit me better (like more groups of planes). But wanna find out what the big deal is with the Midway. Not looking forward to the servicing times tho.
-
Twice today I couldn't bring it up on the full screen. Had to restart the game and div back up!
-
Did the maths and thought so. Against tier 10 cruisers are surprisingly good (Hindy, Des) but not many without Defensive AA now-a-days, bating them or not.
-
Chaps So 8 games later and 4 loses (50%)....The Essex. In a nut shell the Tahio is alot better IMHO 1) Speed (or lack of) They are slow planes. Well, alot slower than i have been used to in the Tahio. Speed counts for so much regarding CV play and this is a kicker. More time spent in AA, more chance of the enemy fighters catching you up, more in the path of strafe time 2) Servicing times This one took my breath away. The mod can make it less painful, l but getting your planes out at the start is a disadvantage and your on the back foot from the word go. Lose your fighters early? Tough, get ready for a long wait. Planes need to be in the air quick, reacting to things. The Tahio is good at this, the Essex not as much. Games can be over really quickly and this doesnt help it 3) Fighters Tier 8 fighters...I mean TIER 8 fighters. The recent change that nerfed the fighters have made them weak, very weak it feels like. Bare in mind that tier 9-10 games are the zone, even spotting can lose you a bunch of planes very quickly. Lose 1-2 planes and the Tahio can sweep you up quickly. Does not feel like US planes at all. 4) Bombers The RNG curse. The IJN have a tight circle that causes fires more often than not. The US ones seem to either be blessed or down right hexed! The amount of times i missed a perfectly executed Man aim on dds only to have 9/10 miss was mind blowing . You miss? You fly back slower, you then reload...Slower. AP bombers are situational so i dont use them at all but maybe thats where i am going wrong here??? (Answer anyone) 5) Torps Cross drop is the word and this cant. Cross dropping is a massive advantage with the Tahio 3 torp groups. Even though you can cause massive damage on a good drop against a BB (HE ridden) hitting a DD is alot harder in this, even with the close spread. The Man Aim also feels like it take more time to get on target compared to the IJN torps drops. Did i mention tier 8 torp planes too? You always lose 1 going in against anything at least. Summary 5 games in and i got the Bomber upgrade (tier 8 to tier 9) which my god helped alot and i have just brought the B hull (15+ more planes) with free XP so its not all doom and glum. I knew the Tahio was better before i even started as playing against them didn't really give me a warm fuzzy feeling about it, but its gonna take some time to get used to it. Reason why i'm playing it? Because that Midway looks interesting I wanna give it a chance but you know, its just not as good.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Likes buses today @MrConway on the enemy team in his div (3 Missouri!) Not the best sight on the load up screen for any CV Captain (Essex). That and the Mino and Des too. Massive camping game with hardly any ship moving the whole game. Lost in the end but they kept together and couldn't do much at all. GG -

Oh just had @Giolonutz and his div on the enemy Team in his Hiryu against me Kaga. I think he sunk 2 to my 3 but a good game, we won in the end rather well. 4 CV game and with my other CV Captain being extremely crap doing nothing the whole game, i had to deal with alot of planes at once. MICROMANAGE "You have a lot to learn Red" he said in the end hummm. Not bad for tier 6 fighters -

Just had @Earl_of_Northeskon the enemy team in his Div (Tahio) whist in the stock Essex (grinding finally). Close battle but we won in the end, good CV captain and a game i enjoyed. Good wake up call. Tahio is a much better CV -
Depends on the CV, but I do on most. The only one that really doesn't need it is the Kaga (speed already good and the spread of torps).

Lets fly back from cuckoo land chaps : 1) Give it 2x4 turrets, period. How on gods green earth can this be a gun ship (Escort leader) with 3x2 guns, one of which the back turret woefully bad? 2) I think the DD heal is a good shout on this particular DD and make sense. Its a hardy DD that could take a pounding. 3) Not another Defensive AA on a DD, especially that was never designed to be one, or even come close to one. The KIDD is fine and that DID have AA everywhere with DP guns, like the Fletcher and such . Sticking Defensive AA on something because it has little AA in the first place doesn't make sense. I would personally make it a great gun ship (Best in the its tier, think the kaba) but to balance that out give it crap concealment (keep it the same) torping boat potential (which it already is) and AA. Add heal to make it live longer and represent the "I'm hard" mentally of the ship (gonna need it with poor concealment and all guns firing). The thing will still be held back with the rear guns arc (Broadside city), but 2x4 is more manageable. As i'm not a great DD player in the first place and by far the least played line, please feel free to shoot me down lads and tell me i'm mad or know nothing . But do you think that is reasonable and as close to History as this game can be? As for the other consumable , no idea. But the answer to the questions would point us in the right direction? 1) Was it a very fast ship? (Speed boast)? 2) Did it have good, first of the type, or different radar? 3) Same as the above but hyro? 4) Good smoke generators or different smoke type? Could just use standard British Smoke. IMHO Its balanced.

I am extremely surprised Mr MrConway. The most viewed thread by far in the CV ships selection (31,322 views) and you havnt read it? As a Community Coordinator? I am actually shocked sir. Even if you arnt a CV player you would at least have a butchers at it, just because? I'm sure your a nice bloke , but this kinda highlights the problem regarding communication. You should ideally be grabbing hold of some of these ideas, widely-held views and needed changes, then firing it up the Chain of Command on our behalf and giving us feedback. Or if WG have something up their sleeves (which we don't know about) then explain that (even in a political way). I don't know how much weigh you hold in that sword and maybe its not your bag, but please could you fire that up the CoC. Us salty CV captains are level-headed and just want to make the game better for all lines, not just CV's. There are problems with CV's and there always has been, from Balance to Bugs. But nearly all the ideas from some really good CV players has just been ignored, period. Unless there is a massive linch mob that everyone and his dog jumps onto (the GZ springs to mind) then things aren't being sorted. You could have released that Ship (lose term) to us for one day and we could have given you better feed back than half your staff with basic comments like, "its crap, don't release" or "it's very crap, please don't release" . Because we enjoy the game and enjoy CV play, we might even give you some tips or advice on what you could do if you ask nicely. Its not rocket science to figger out that was a doomed set-up from day one . Ask the community and get their opinions as it will save you alot of bother in the long run. I understand that can be a double edge sword asking the masses and we understand that we have one agenda and WG have another (Enjoyment vs ££), but lets meet in the middle shall we chaps. I hope to hear from you more in the future mate, always welcome
-
My thoughts too Its a pointless nerf which wasnt needed IMHO. Just means weaker US fighters, so thumbs up for the Tahio crew i suppose .
-
I feel sorry for this lad. I mean I'm sure he really wanted to say " look chaps, this ship is crap at the moment but I know that. the guys are looking Into it, maybe, might be, don't know really". "It has secondaries" I bet he said that through a nervous laugh . Has ball pointing that selling point out.Lol Not having a go but it does make you laugh. Let's not mess around and give it 2x4 guns for a start for god sake and the HP to go with it.. Its a hardy gun ship that often worked on its tod, represent that. It always had 4 torps launchers so fine, its not a torpedo boat. Its a gun ship. Make it that way and stop messing around. The Tribal class is THE British dd. Don't wreck it like this. I'm not a dd player but really want this ship but not if WG don't pull their finger out. Although 2x4 could be in the silver line..
-
Essex with tier 8 fighters?? really? Was that necessary? Not brought back the Essex yet since changes (motherboard shorted and waiting for new one) but I didn't think anything was wrong with it their fighters from a Tahio captain point-of-view. Just makes life easier for the IJN captain now. US fighters should be better IMHO anyway.
-
Not a truer word said . Its not hard....at all.
-
Very good advice, all though i send the fighters out first to stop the guy doing what your suggesting. Plus you get air domination over the caps from the word go. To reliably kill a dd with a IJN CV, 2 torp bombers are better for cross dropping or bomber/torp combo. That can take time. A DD who gets spotted from the start away from a cap (because you've spotted them ) normally panic and either 1) Run the spotted gauntlet of a thousand ships 2) Smoke too early out of cap 3) Outright run away. DD killing is the pinnacle of being a CV captain and takes time @mrpiggy. Its alot harder than it used to be with alot of Defensive AA DD's now-a-days.
