carrier The state of CVs - why the rework is necessary
Redcap375 replied to Teekesselchen's topic in General Discussion
Not bad for a solo battleship ay without defensive AA. AA on them is very good even half spec. (already knew how deadly high tier French AA can be, CV div with a Alsace) But nothing wrong with AA here says the BB/CA and DD player . You cant bluff someone that plays all the lines. -
Emphasis on the word LIVING.

Good job lads

But we are talking about the average player here chaps, and I don't mean that to sound condescending or elitist. Had a KG last night that slightly turned right and just sailed in a single straight line the whole game.....Until he died after receiving a barrage of my AP shells into his side (cruiser). Did he turn or even flinch? Nope, just kept on sailing and firing his guns. And he is at tier 7 chaps. The young kid/family man/ general gamer that just pops into a few games and does what he wants his way. Weekends and now summer holiday, with the weather too, are making games harder and harder to carry. Had to get a kracken yesterday in the Sharn and even that it was on a knife edge at the end. Having killed 5 ships then watch your team do some of the most...I dont know, stupid? Things I have seen. We won in the end because the time ran out and was 50 points ahead. 1) People using torps from 12 km out.....With 8 km torps 2) Full broadside shown without a care in the world 3) 2 ships running into eachother in open water and both getting torpedod 4) Atlanta firing AP shells at bow-on NC, constantly. Then moving from the safety of the island for no reason what so even and guess what? That said BB seen it coming. ^^To mention a few. All this unfolding before my eyes People WILL sail into the cap and 9/10 will get focused by every ship on that side of the map after being radar by the 4-5-6 radar ships. Same as the Average CV player that just sends waves and waves of planes into a Mino or Atlata and doest even know what strafing is. How many of them have we had on the receiving end of our AA guns and your thinking it's madness. I would count 85% of the current CV population as average players. Because 85% of them don't know how to even strafe. Either that or they cant be bothered, I really don't know now. Radar is a huge problem for the vast majority of the player base. Hence there is a problem with radar. I mean bloody hell, this all started with the introduction of smoke for a offensive purpose. That should have been nipped in the bud before that one started to grow. Pew Pew from smoke with impunity. So radar came more and more prevalent, but not only did that stop the smoke issue but DD's in general, smoked up or not. WG knew they screwed up on that one as they extended all the seen whilst firing from Smoke and even offered to give your money back on the Kuts and Belfast. Then they give it to a BB and now DD's Great guide and thank you from taking the time to write it mate . As a second rate DD player it has helped. But.....That is a hell of alot of walking on egg shells for the casual gamer to come to grips with and just wants to play. Do this and don't that, stay this close but nor too close, spot the team and don't fire your guns, knowledge on the countless ships and what they are packing and ranges. All this as your being screamed at by your team for failing to spot, torp and cap. Unlike say a BB guild that would consist of: 1) Pick your correct lobbers 2) WASD from time to time 3) Angle Now the casual game can make that work. DD play is going in the same direction as CV play. Those that are good and those that are completely dead weight, few in between. Teams simply can not afford to have dead weight DD's just like CV's. We all know what happens to teams that are completely blind. IMHO

Buff/reduce Republiques current superstructure
Redcap375 replied to Affeks's topic in General Discussion
So you/some people want a hard hitting, auto penning, fast firing, accurate BB? That's one more attribute better than then Yam and that should be the BB of all BB's. It already caused chaos to cruisers, imagine if you give it better accuracy at distance? Doesn't sit right with me. You won't need armour in the game if you are killing things before they throw a salvo back at you. -
Buff/reduce Republiques current superstructure
Redcap375 replied to Affeks's topic in General Discussion
2 ships I hate to play against in my Hindy.....The Yam and this one. Regardless of angle, they pen and do all sorts of nasty things. Often bounce other BB shells but these two just laugh. But when focus fire comes into play (clan battles) the Rep goes down very very quickly with no zombie heal like the Conq. By the guns alone (pen and reload), this BB doesn't need an armour Buff IMHO. But I don't have the ship so take that with a pinch of salt. -
carrier The state of CVs - why the rework is necessary
Redcap375 replied to Teekesselchen's topic in General Discussion
So much already said with the vast majority of that falling on deaf ears by WG. No point what-so-ever talking about CV game play and what's wrong with it now. Let everythng we know about CV's die chaps. Being a CV main player from the beginning to someone now that rarely takes them out is sad. Good CV players are few and far between now, I mean VERY few. New CV players give up hope at tier 7-8 with the shear amount to AA knocking around. 2 clans members tried it in the last month and both have given up. I am the only real CV player left in our Clan. There used to be a time that you really had to bring your A game against enemy CV players.....Now it's, yeah. Auto dropping, "feed me planes" kinda players now. When you are a DD player, you normally look at the enemy team and see how many ships have radar and hydro right? Normally what, 3,4,5 radars nowadays with more Hydro? It's the same for CV captains but Defensive AA instead and guess how many Ships can equip that? Yeah and some don't even have a choice, you get it if you like it or not. Picture a tier 8-9 CV player here. He has the following ships in the line up against him: Montana (currently very popular) Iowa Missouri (currently very very Popular) Des (Currently very popular for clans and missions) Mino's and now Woster and Seattle which quite frankly makes a mockery of AA New Buffalo's and tier 8 Clevelands. Oh and DD's Like the Fletcher, Ug, Kaba and KIDD. That's not including any Ship that can take Defensive AA like the Zao, Moskva, Hindy, Hipper, Roon, Ibuki ect ect. How about half Spec Kurfurst, Bis, Yam, Conq or Lion? Or a Bati, NO and Pens with defensive AA??? The fat Freddy? 30 planes in mine Oh and left out high tier French BB's? Can anyone tell me the amount of AA pain those can dish out when full/half AA spec? I should not be downing 47 Planes in my solo HMS LION with ease should I? Or 28 planes in a DD? Now I have learned to cope with it like any player that wants to learn does and there are things you can do to make life easier. But that is after years of experience and sticking with the Line. Most players don't have the time to do so or simply wont. But for new players it's hell on earth. They simply give up. Alas, it's all being changed and will it be for the better? Who knows......But if they dumb it down, count me out of CV play forever. I really hope they don't. IMHO -
The HOOD on sale? Why WG...WHY! Chaps, so do I really need this ship? Or is it going to sit in port and do nothing. what makes it better/different than all the other tier 7 BBs? Personal experience.....
-
Can't go wrong Dave. Give it time to adjust. It's like swinging a pistol (Sharn) compared to the lumping around of a Shotgun (Lyon). Use it's cruiser like abilities and like every ship in the game, play to it's strengths. Get rid of pesky cruisers first and bow tank torp run those lumbering BB's. I would say it's similar to the Giulio at tier 5 in alot of respects (another great ship and highly recommended). If you can play that well then the Sharn will be snug.
-
Alot of ships do, like my warspite but it's still a solid ship that hasn't been power crept out.....Yet . Plus tier 7 is the Premium tier so many to choose from, especially from a CV main point-of-view (both the Kaga and Saipan are better then the silver line, IMHO).
-
Hummm, tricky one but taking eveything into consideration then the Sharn will come out on top 9/10. For pure broadside cruiser killing power then the Lyon takes it obviously with the weight of shot (RNG aside). But for general cruiser killing which includes hunting them (speed), element of surprise (concealment), amount of crusier killing shots (re-load) and ability to relocate then the Sharn. If I have a game full of cruisers and could either pick the Lyon or the Sharn, I would pick the sharn. The Lyon will simply get HE spammed to death with it's much bigger concealment, weaker armour and slowness. The Sharn is one of the best examples of a cruiser killer there is IMHO. It's also a great AP DD killer too. But then again, the Lyon AP against a DD is even more devastating (4x4 guns tends to do that)
-
The Shinny at that price is a steal To all those that were thinking about buying it but didn't, now is your chance. It's a great ship and highly recommend it. It's a easy ship to play, chews cruisers up, AP/HE DD's to death and burns and torps BB's to smithereens. Good Secondary and Good AA. Both very good when spec too. P.S: That's the only time I will actively try to sell something on WG behalf. But's it's a bargain. The only ship I Havant got and sort of wanted was the HOOD. Might be tempted if the price is right But i have so many good tier 7 ships, hard one.

AA defense 14х2 57 mm, range - 4,5 km, damage per second - 357 12х2 100 mm, range - 5,0 km, damage per second - 178 3х3 152 mm, range - 5,0 km, damage per second - 25 Jesus H Christ how much AA and the range of them?? Man AA and AFT captain skills and you have nothing to fear against CV's, ever. Those you meet anyway. Sod it, AFT will do. Throw in the AA range for giggles. Not the mention BFT. Base 4.5 km for 357 damage without any range modifiers? And the 100/152 mm incased into some nice protection to help against HE spam..Dear god Nice one WG. Another Ship thrown into the game with crazy AA. And you wonder why die-hard CV mains like me don't play high tier Cv's much now-a-days. And the next ship coming out? A Heavy high tier US AA killing cruiser that is the Alaska? It's actually comical
-
It's blatantly in our face chaps.... The Jean Bart needs to be better than the Alsac. So they sell £££££. That's is the bottom line in true WG fashion. The Alsac is preforming well and it's one of the bright sparks of Tier 9 BB's thank god. Now it's directly competing with the Jean they simply cant have a Silver ship outshining the premium ones. Please see Tirp buff (everyone was keeping the silver Bis and not buying the Tirp premium) Has anyone ever said that the Alsac needed a Nerf??? Not one of us, not one. Because we all know it's a good ship at tier 9 and you know what, people liked that. A bight light in the dark cave of tier 9 BB's. It's a HE Cruisers wet dream and gets smashed up by assorts of enemies and it's far from OP. It struggles with even angled cruisers, never mind BBs but they still nerf it. If they HAVE to nerf it to save a random players life, then stigma only. It''s got enough guns and forces it to get closer (which is a death Wish in tier 10 camping meta). But reload too? Anyone wanna bet that the Jean will have better Sigma AND reload? I bet my mortgage it will. IMHO.

Thanks for the advice chaps. 17 games in it so far and 11 wins. Most of them in higher tier too (tier 8 MM again ). For a Player that doesn't do well in DD's i'm having a blast. it's durable, multi roles nicely, good spotter and supports friendly ships when required (smoking). Love the knife fighting ability, busting other DD's up then heal most of the HE damage you received when sailing back out the cap. I think its the most forgiving DD that I have played yet. Left AFT out. 6 km AA range and DefAA has already netted me 22 planes max and hitting at distance like many have said is folly. Don't know if we can say thing like this in this day and age, but it's a man man's ship

Chaps, I never thought I would be in a DD thread but needs must so going cap in hand. I need some advice regarding the USS KIDD. The only DD i have remotely wanted. Why this DD then? I like the look of it, it looks busy and up for a scrap. It appears to be a "team player" kinda ship which i enjoying playing. It's got heal and that AA is deadly for a CV ( I know, i hate them and love them when DIv with my Enterprise). It's not a major torp ship which i cant get on with but it's good in a knife fight, well so I have heard. I also need a US DD captain trainer. I know some of you will be saying that going into tier 8 with a ship line i'm not great with, is a disaster waiting to happen. But I'm a quick learner and really want to get into DD play after so long and as i didn't buying it last time, i had to have it this time. DD's have always been "that" line for me. I have dabbled in them but compared to the other lines, this one is still as foreign as they get. So.....Is there any advice you DD captains can give me before i sail this beauty out of the port to be put through it's baptism of fire? I am thinking of the following build: Captain Skills: PT, LS, BFT, SE,SI,DE and CE Upgrades will be the norm but with AA range to bring those AA gun to a nice range without compromising concealment too much. I think this is a great balance of Stealth, Tanky and AA. Few questions i wanna pose: 1) Does SE make a massive difference, i.e enough to warrant 3 skill points? I personally think it this to maximise that staying power within the game and help with that bad MM at tier 8. it's a good choice? 2) AFT? Would you bring those guns out further, is it worth it considering it's hard to hit at max range and get spotted earlier?Or that max AA range will help out more in the long run (the team) 3) Faster torp reload worth it at 3 points instead? It's extremely slow to reload as it is, but will this make it slightly better? Any more thoughts on captain skills? Tips and tricks? Is it a get into the Cap, smash and hold? Or play more passive in it until the time is right? Support the team more at the beginning? Which DD's do you think i should be actively trying to kill and those to avoid?........ Think i will stop there . Plenty of questions but i don't want peoples fingers to burn down to nubs. Please feel free to look at my DD stats and give me any thoughts you might have. Maybe i play too passive in them or too aggressive, don't spot or cap enough? I really appreciate any help you chaps can give me. DD's are so important in this game and don't wanna screw it up for the team.

Couldn't make it work. Regardless if the Cleveland was a tier 8 in tier 6 clothing, it was far far better than the Pen at the time IMHO. So that felt like a drop straight the way. You lost Better AA (range and DPM), HE fire starting potential, Firing over hills, DD killing guns (more of them) but you gained a citadel the size of Westminster and paper armour. I would beat a Pens with a Cleveland 99.9% of the time. Either burn it to death when he angles or if he turns to get away then 12 AP Clevelands shells would decimate it. Oh, the pens can kite because of the great rudder shift but when she got hit, it would take alot of damage off you. Might be unlucky but when i got hit, even when angled, 1/2 health gone just like that. Maybe I took the German cruiser mentality to the Pens (just finished the German Line at the time)? or didn't give it enough time (18 games) but i didn't like it or fit my play style. Played it whilst the concealment was worse too and before the buffs. I always knew I could kite better in the Sch, tank better in the York, Medium range it in a Myoko, Stealth better in the Fiji or Belfast and spam and kill dd's better in the Atlanta. I think you just sometimes don't get on with a ship. I could make all the other tier 7 cruisers work (Really enjoyed the Yorck and Myoko) but sadly not this one. I couldn't stand it so free XP it in the end. I remember the AP not working for me too, maybe RNG or getting used to the shell arcs but just could not get those heavy hitting guns to work. I've come to the conclusion that when i'm not playing CV's, I do better in tanking ships that like a knife fight or at least get close into the action. Ships that can plug holes in weakspots. Ships like the Hindy, Buddy, Myoko, Roon and Buffalo, but can also kite when required and throw out torps for good measure (buff aside). Basically ships that have half decent armour and reward players that know how to angle properly. See I found the NO alot better, it could take a hit alot more.....Interesting ay The Cola, I presume, would be alot better now with buffs and tier change. But it would take another Peal Harbour with all my ships sinking in port to take that ship out again. IMHO

Chaps.. I feel your pain and I am so far from being a defeatist, but high tier CV games are just too stressful at the moment. I have, i'm afrade to admit, docked both my tier 9 and tier 10 CV's for the time being. High tier US ship missions (nation with the most AA by-the-way) and the new US cruiser line which is here to stay is making life extremely hard for any CV player. Too many ships have too many ways to deal with planes. Hindy, moskva, Des bla bla bla. When i'm downing 47 planes in my HSM lion you know something is wrong. Now with the Seattle, Worcester and the new good AA IJN DD's coming out it's just adding onto that list. Oh and the new Massachusetts with very good AA AND excellent torp belt? God only knows what the russian BB's will bring to the AA death soup when those babies come out. I personally think that CV's have the worst Meta to get throughout right now. High tier camping has always been there but IMHO it's getting worse, not better. God that sounds so negative. Just weighed up the enjoyment factor against the stress factor and it's a bit one-sided at the moment. Plus i'm enjoying grinding other ships at the moment so having a rest from most CV's (not Kaga or Enterprise, helping Clan mates out) Maybe until the rework comes, who knows. hopefully it will sort it's self out and i can take them back out again.
-
So no then Your probably right and with the CV rework coming over the horizon too. But could it be implemented in the re-work? maybe is has But I personally think it would be interesting adding these shells to the Yam and her sister ship. The HOOD got her gimmick fireworks. I don't own neither by-the-way. I mean turning sssslllooowww guns in the general direction of the incoming planes, getting the distance right and wasting a full salvo trying to take 1 or 2 planes down isn't going to break the balance is it? IMHO. Don't know if they could implement it as a new ammo type, add it as an extra option of consumables, or just choose to replace one? As far as some ideas that fly though these forums go, I don't think it's a bad one. I am quite surprised that this hasn't been brought up before tho But like @El2aZeR has said, it's probably not as easy as it sounds to create all this new stuff.

Look i'm always open to peoples views and opinions, even if some are them are completely wrong Could do, but I don't think Defensive Fire kinda effect would be the way forwards. Too much of that around to be brutally honest. I would give it a single punch, like a grape shot out of a cannon (HAVE IT!) 3 types of ammo could be interesting, HE, AP and type 3 shells or whatever. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T MAKE THEM GOLD AMMO LIKE WOT!

Hummm... I'm saying this from a CV main chaps, but maybe it could be interesting? From knowledge (and the Sinking of the Yam film (subtitled), the main guns on the Yam fired "beehive" shells didn't they? Apart from that it had the same sort of AA stuff as other BB's. It was fired during the sinking of the Yam when the planes got in range. Oh didnt the the Yam only manage to down 10 planes in total before sinking, 2 of them during the explosion? So....Maybe you could load these shells when you spot the planes and fire in the general direction? Don't know how much damage they would do or the range on the things but it's something that could be implemented. I mean the downsides would be firing these shells and waiting for the long reload and not hitting more important targets (like the ship ). But i could live with it? Although, Did all BB's have these types of shells or is it something that the Yam and her sister ship had only? I don't really know. If you give it to one, then maybe WG would have to give it to the rest? I think it's interesting. Pros and Cons for it. But Defensive AA? NOT A CHANCE. There is a reason why there are so little HIgh Tier CV players and the crazy amount of AA is of of them...I hardly play tier 9-10 CV any more and i'm a CV main. We can't reward more bow-on, campy, tanky, hard hitting, accurate, fantastic torp belt, BB's with more AA. They need another counter, not just a poor DD that's lucky to survive 2 waves of radar ships.

First Clan game with the change and I nearly got took out by them... 4 walls of 2 flanking Zao torps that were pushing around the volcano? Screw the shimmy The ability to kite and before or during throw out 2 banks of torps fits right into what the Zao is good at. All whilst still invisible too, whats not to like about that. I wish I had 12 km torps in my Hindy. I mean 12 km torps on a cruiser? And i thought the Mino's 10 km was great. IMHO, The Henri detection range, DPM and shell velocity puts it behind the Zao in terms of flanking ships. Longish reload with less guns also hampers it, but the AP hits VERY hard and the torps are workable. No spotter plane for those pesky DDs tho. Hydro only gives you so much. It's a great ship no doubt, but IMHO the Zao does the flanking role better. The majority of Henri's we have come across succumb to concentrated fire due to the concealment and lack of a spotter plane against the DD's
-
2v1 DD's means diddily squat when you have alot of radar ships. Just take a look at Clans at the moment. The Kaba will get out spotted by the friendly DD and focused to death if he comes anywhere near the cap. But anyway, it's all about the DD Captains skill on both sides and the competency of the radar ships not to blow their load at the same time, stuff like that.
-
Why don't we just slap DefAA on every DD ay lads? Lets just add some more AA that is currently in the game. Add it to list of DD AA ships like the Gearing, Fletcher, Gro, Kaba, Udaloi, Grozovoi, KIDD, Sims, Man, Benson, ect.... Akizuki I could live with as that was designed to be a AA escort DD. But DD's with a bofor here and there, don't think so. Kitakaze and Harugumo are examples of more ships coming out that has strong AA. I'm half expecting them to be changed to have DefAA too, as they were also AA DD's. IMHO
-
I enjoy this ship too but its a one trick pony. Great cruiser killer. Regarding the AA....IMHO No. We should not reward camping type BB's (Which the Dunk is) with more AA. Full AA spec is quite enough and can down a good amount of planes considering it's play style.
