Yeah, they overnerfed the torpedoes in this version, it was hilarious (for me) when I discovered that I can outrun these torpedoes with my DDs.

I said that in other threads since the start of the CBT, DDs are terrible right now and are only good against terrible players. Also IJN DDs are boring as a grave. Were you using binocular view? Smoke disappears in binocular view, is a feature so you can aim through smoke if an ally is spotting enemy ships in the other side of the cloud or inside the cloud.

Sometimes non verbal communication leads to mistakes, specially if English is our second language. I thought you were trying to be an smartass, accept my apologize. "Main" and "secondary" guns are listed under the "Artillery" tab, check any BB or most CAs. All the skills improving them only affect these guns, so it won't improve your torpedoes nor you AA. Some secondaries and even main guns (in the case of DDs) double as AA guns, they only improve their AA efficiency with AA skills and modernizations. And talking about AA: Usually you want to turn off ("p" key by default) your AA guns, since when they shot you'll become visible for several seconds and their long range damage is really low. Also, deactivate them when you are in a smoke cloud or they'll shot making you visible.

They lied to you, carriers are OP in tier 3-4 battles. Ships are slow, unmaneuverable and their AA is metaphorically inexistent or literally inexistent. CVs start to fall down in tier 6 matches, when CAs and DDs are better and carry good AA. You are a smart guy. Most OP ships in the game are Fuso, Cleveland and Des Moines, and you learned why in a few low tier games.

I always think in HP as some abstract measure of you combat capability (heck, isn't literally named like that in game?) when you hit 0, your ship breaks and sinks because is more "spectacular" in a arcade game, but you can think most ships are too damaged to continue the fight and they just retreat.

Hey, I ain't the one who wants realism, else I'll be playing a simulator, not a "fast" paced arcade game. Balance should take priority over historical facts in this kind of game.

Like all ships, main armament are the guns you shot, secondary ones are the ones who shot automatically at enemies when they are in range. DDs don't have secondaries, with the weird exception of the Umikaze with the stock hull, who have five 76mm guns, don't ask me why.

The worst part, IMO, is that there is no reason for choosing Gearing instead of Fletcher at the moment. About torpedoes: This patch buffed acquisition range for all ships, so now everybody can spot incoming torpedoes from ~2.7km away, making them useless after the 8km range, unless the target is really bad, distracted, has really bad luck with the spread or is in the middle of a maneuver with the rudder at max. In less than 6km, you'll be one/two shotted by the average BB/CA player. -

But their "national peculiarity" makes their detection range bigger than their torpedo range, making it fair. Oh, wait... -
Vigilance adds a 20% to the distance you can spot enemy torpedoes. Don't waste your points.

The cap circle is enormous, too big to be completely covered with smoke. If you enter in your circle, the cap timer doesn't advance, so just wait until the smoke disperse and never enter in the cloud, unless you want to be torpedoed. Wrong, smoke blocks the LoS from everybody. If you are in the cloud and see someone outside is because a teammate is spotting him for you. -
BB's are now the worstest thing from Fuso up to Yamato

Average players who care to learn how to defend themselves from torpedo bombers can do it, just watch it happening in most games after tier 6 or 7. Maybe you are the one being unique.

You are weaker than the US CAs but carry torpedoes, which are useless right now. Like all the IJN cruiser line.

Also mind the Torpedo damage/BB HP ratio: Myogi have 45700HP, Langley torpedoes do 5900 each, that's 8 hits to sink (assuming maximum damage). Yamato have 97200HP, Essex torpedoes do 9867 each, that's 10 hits to sink (assuming maximum damage). Now add that Yamato have a lot of AA, so you'll shot down a plane or two during the maneuver, turns a bit faster and (probably, I ain't 100% sure about this) have a better belt, making you take less damage from each hit. We can add that Essex have more TB squadrons, Yamato's team will have more and better AA while Myogi's team barely had any and a lot more of variables, but you can see the pattern. Well, that's true. Ten times better than "I let planes surround me and now that torpedoes are in the water they are OP" or "I've followed two DDs into a smoke cloud and they sunk me, that hurt my feelings, pls nerf".

Fubuki have 3x3 and Kagero 2x4, Kagero have less detectability and more HP (that barely makes a difference), also, as a tier 9 ship, Kagero can get the -15% reload on torpedoes modernization. The real problem with Fubiki is that stock is better than full upgrade. The 15 Km torps are slower, that with the buffed acquisition range (you can see incoming torps from ~2.7km away) makes them really easy to evade. You also lost a turret and change a RoF of 10/minute to 6/minute, not that you really want to shot them, but sometimes you need some self defense, or finish a CA with less than 2000 HP. About guns: You can't shot them at max range while being unspotted, not a huge nerf but is another nail in the coffin. Also, when you shot take ages to fade again, add the improved accuracy of guns, and you are dead if you try to harass at long range. About Clappers: Probably Benson and Fletcher are the best DDs ATM, no downside from their "national particularities". Gearing is still Gearing. Thanks, is autobiographic.

You don't really need to open another thread. To be fair, IMO, torpedo bombers are really OP in tier 3-4 matches, most ships are slow with bad maneuverability and they don't have AA or their AA is laughable. Then, they fall down hard in tier 6 onwards, when even the slow BBs can maneuver pretty fast and AA is more effective, specially the one from CAs and their improved AA skill.

That Hatsuharu is a worse Mutsuki.

Compare them against the other CAs and BBs. Fuso, is the best BB after Yamato and Cleveland is better than Pensacola and can beat tier 8 CAs if you are good. They'll balance them sooner than later.

Balance is a bit off, see: Cleveland and Fuso. Myoko have less HP and worse turret placement, it comes with more AA, 4x4 torpedo tubes instead of 4x3 that have longer reload times and sightly better RoF with the 20cm guns. Without long lances isn't a great improvement IMO, but I didn't played them is this patch. Before the armor implementation the 15cm guns were great. In fact, since the torpedo nerfs, IJN cruisers doesn't look good overall.
