There are a fair few ships that do very well in higher tiers of game. I`d rather have my tier 5 Japanese destroyer than the junk in the two higher tiers in that line.

Let's talk about the water

Putting in areas of choppy sea would be a bit like those nebula clouds in the star trek Armada RTS games. I think it would make another interesting terrain feature, like difficult terrain. We could also have fog banks and a cloudy map. -
It would be interesting to see electric torpedoes in the game, rather than steam powered - slower but much more stealthy as they leave no trail of bubbles.

Just bought into beta, so here to say hi.

Shiver me timbers and hoist the mainbrace - welcome to the seas you scurvy dog, yarr! -
Its possible to change the key setup - I have mine set to the keys I use for first person shooters - ie the numpad. Not all the keys are necessary I find - all that target locking stuff can be a hinderance.

Cattywampus? - ok that's a new one to see in patchnotes for sure.

Tier 5, as ships after that actually get worse in many cases (like the Japanese destroyer line for example). The same applies to carriers, especially as dive bombers are innefective and AA becomes more effective. The incentive to move up the tiers simply isn't there and I often read comments on this forum that people would quite like to keep using a lower tier ship in the high tier matches and that shows something to be in need of serious rebalance.

In a separate topic about "the playing area edge" I read an interesting account of someone who started "sliding" his battleship along the edge of the map. He reported that this interfered with the aim prediction of the mod and suddenly nobody in the match could hit him. It's interesting to see people becoming so reliant on something that when it is removed their ability to fight is hampered. To add more hilarity, they accused him of cheating. This remains the only counter tactic I have heard of and may be interesting to test out if one ends up getting chased to the map edge.

I play my carrier aggressively and drive it to cap points - unfortunately, even with closing the distance like this, the turnaround on bombers is still terrible and the risks go up hugely. I am seeing in the next patch that they are going to lower this time by increasing the speed and unladen speed of bombers, which is welcome. Also, the Japanese carriers are, apparently, faster and built for this sort of "in your face" carrier action, which pleases me greatly. I mean, the other day I played a game in which we lost and during that time I had launched 2 attacks with my carrier, neither of which achieved very much. It shows a lot when the other types of ships can kill eachother numerous times and cap points in the time it takes me to launch my bombers twice and drive a short distance. I`m trying on some other topic posts to improve the experience of playing the carrier, by allowing paired carriers in divisions for example, but hopefully the coming changes will help. Regardless, if they don't change some of the glaring issues, then introducing more carriers will just make the problem worse an more obvious. I`m seeing a lot of games where there is one carrier per side or none and instead its just battleships and destroyers as far as the eye can see.

Could be a sound error. I often hear a single "ping" of the torpedo sonar sound long before I can actually see torpedos. I figured that was simply part of the game as a sort of early warning, a bit like how the "you are about to hit land" warning begins quietly really far out. Maybe its an error and we shouldn't hear this initial sound?

Its ok, I just thought it was a phrase I had not heard before - I often find that in the EU channels I run into unusual phrases and slang from time to time.

I see there is finally a topic on this in the American forums - what the opinion of the Russian forums on all this?

How to change bombers torpedoes spread in auto mode ?
Silvercat18 replied to 7H13rrYb0's topic in General Discussion
As to it getting more wide, that's usually caused by bombers coming under heavy attack. I have heard this called "panic" but I don't know if that is the official term. -
As long time players of World of Tanks will know, the TOG2* tank was a valuable source of humour in any game it appeared in. It was a silly shape, ponderously slow and prone to getting stuck in areas of strange terrain. We also had a variety of French tanks that looked a lot like a rubber duck, one that had a barn instead of a turret and some Russian tanks that looked like pancakes. Humour is important, even in a game like World of Warships, so I ask those wise in the ways of naval history - What ships could be included in the game that are genuinely entertaining or silly that can lighten our day during play? To start the ball rolling, here is a picture of the I-400 - why just have ordinary Japanese aircraft carriers when you can have one that's also a submarine!
-
One of my favourite pacific war submarines is the Narwhal - an oversized submarine with two huge deck guns - which it needed ... for reasons.

The maps are pretty large - any ship near the border is basically in the wrong place and even carriers are encouraged to move fairly close to the action so that their planes can get a quicker turnaround. From what I have seen, it is not too much of a problem, though it occasionally catches out a ship with a large turning circle. Really, though, if you are on the border, you`re probably not going to survive long anyway, as it means you are running away or doing something bizarre.
-
I am loving the pancake ships and that silly submarine for sure - good suggestions everyone!

Adjusting the aiming circle is really handy when multiple squadrons are attacking and you want to set up a crossfire, with torpedo launches from alternate sides or angles. Helps prevent the enemy from turning into the torpedoes to dodge them, as the other set coming in will then hit them.
-
I tried my first aircraft carrier today too. It's a little strange getting used to the key set up at first, but not a huge issue I would say. I like the "hotspots" that show up on ships (such as the protect ally hotspot when hovering the mouse over a friendly ship, for example). I`d seen the manual torpedo aiming on youtube videos, but it took a little experimentation to find that I could drag the arrow about on the aiming circle so as to line up different attack angles. Had I not seen that this was possible, however, I doubt I would have gone looking for it. The use of carriers needs some sort of integral guide or tooltip that can be dismissed, as otherwise reading and watching guides is the only way to understand them for a newcomer. *Edit* - On further study, it seems the actual manual aim is the one using the alt key - I didn't know about that one at all, I just figured the turning circle was it! That would definitely be nice on a tooltip somewhere.
-
Good to see that this was picked up and that it will be fixed.
-
I really do not understand why WG appears to be defending the aim assist mod - this is a good game, with much potential and I don't understand why that is being put at risk by tolerating such a thing. If it is to be accepted, then make it integral to the game and put everyone on an even playing field at least.

I know how you feel - its rough being locked out of this beta and we want in!
