The situation with the missiles was the reverse. It is generally accepted that the missile that struck the Sheffield did not explode, is did penetrate the ships side and the rocket motor ignited flammable materials including fuel oil from a gravity fed fuel tank. The missile that struck Glamorgan contacted the deck edge combing and exploded blowing a hole in the deck, the remains of the missile then continued on through the side of the hanger and destroyed a fully armed and fuelled helicopter in the hanger.
