I probably will play the DDs, with it being the class I most consistently enjoy and all, and I have port slots to burn after missions and whatnot. While I'm more interested in the IJN split (really I hope this comes first, or at the same time) and a British line, we haven't had any sort of DD line for over a year. The mix of tube counts on the lower tiers looks interesting (wonder if Omaha A & B hulls will be corrected to carry 2x2 lower & 2x3 upper sometime). Won't be getting the latest FOTM boat.

expensive research costs for RN torpedos without benefits // RN still WIP?
StringWitch replied to Cpt_Andre's topic in General Discussion
Most cruiser torp upgrades are only worth getting if you're keeping the ship; this isn't anything new. Myoko/Mogami/Ibuki even unlock the past cruiser's top torps when unlocked themselves. I guess the purpose is mainly to be obfuscative and prolong grinds. -
Sorta related: I'd like to know when my planes are visible when playing CV.
-
And exactly the same commander portraits... It's really absurd that CW ships aren't part of the RN tree.

I've seen some hope expressed that regular British commanders might be used with Commonwealth ships. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the case? And is there a hilarious stereotypical Australian announcer akin to the British one?

Dear WG please consider adding "Repair Party" (heal) to Tier VII "Premium" cruiser "Atlanta"!
StringWitch replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Atlanta has always had +2 MM, tier 9 is just the least populated tier in the game. Since a few updates ago there are no unique ships in regards to limited MM spreads. The only unique MM thing of any kind now is that Mikasa counts as a cruiser; she still meets tier 3, just can't stand-in for a missing tier 3 BB on her team anymore.- 44 replies

Do you have any plan to improve Atlanta? It is not a good ship in game.

One update during summer bought a global increase in the health for non-battleship gun turrets. -
why have we got 3 crap commanders with new patch?
StringWitch replied to beercrazy's topic in General Discussion
This is correct. I find it funny that they're Russian purely cause the devs basically are and seem to want to default to that, when the actual default or placeholder nation in the game seems in most cases to be Japan. No: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/66108-arpeggio-compensation-and-more/ -
As ever... Also think 3-deck interwar Kaga complete with 8cm guns would be an interesting premium CV even if she could only use the top deck for balance reasons, perhaps as the inverse of Saipan with a large number of weaker (also interwar) planes, but WG are in the habit of going "as during WWII" instead of interesting. I really don't see any dreadnought being below tier 3, the artillery advantage is huge compared to Mikasa because of how secondaries work. And 2 is the only tier that can contain an entire 20 years of pre-dreadnoughts. Dreadnought herself can contend with the likes of South Cal and Kawachi (also other nations' first dreadnoughts) just fine.

Why is Lebby not called Z-1 like all the other Z designations? Will IJN DD branch come before this?

Voiceovers don't play during transition to/from the overhead map view. Word from Q&As I remember is that it creates a special extra reserve slot that goes away when the commander is assigned. I think this might've been changed at some point to apply to captains received from missions etc. even if the reserve isn't already full. But I have no idea personally.

Icon overlap here: I realised not being able to see aircraft names makes it impossible to tell which carrier they belong to in 2v2 CV games without zooming in and taking a careful (and time-consuming) look. Are they Japanese or American aircraft? I know they generally have 4 or 6 plane squadrons, but dare I say that information is a bit less legible than a textual name, and this will change over time with more unique premium decks like Saipan's, and the AS skill makes a miscount more likely by adding more smaller blips to the aircraft count. Plus with the ammo differences instated in a past update this becomes a real in-the-moment decisionmaking affecting problem. Reinstate the names and put the tier on a separate line (again a feature WoT has). Or you could even make it configurable (again a feature WoT has, is that a broken record I hear?).
-
Now that you've finally added ship names to the overhead view, can you please also add it to the 'team lineups' display on the left/right of the screen? WoT did this years ago, along with a hotkey to cycle through display modes. An option for ship names to be displayed in the minimap is also desired by many players. Ship silhouette yellow colour no longer matches up with the HP number in bottom left corner (if you're gonna change things, make sure everything that's supposed to have a corresponding colour is changed too). The new darker grey indicating how much you can repair is harder to see. Is there any way at all now to find out the names of aircraft? Would be nice to have it displayed in the port screen stats menu, like back when aircraft were their own module (cruisers et al. had aircraft ratings like carriers) and not just a consumable. Oh also, a suggestion for further improvement: Allow us to see consumable and upgrade options on ships we don't own. The fact it even says "purchase the ship to view consumables/upgrades" is obnoxious.

Rest in peace Cruisers, may you be remembered.
StringWitch replied to BloodRose13's topic in Cruisers
More games before the decline of cruisers means your stats will change more slowly after, so your statistical claim actually goes against your point as though to say "look how great cruisers were when I played most of these games". -
Looks great! But why wasn't this in the game on release? Left before (high), right after (x4, actually looks a bit better with x8 since the wires are so thin):

I have ambient turned off anyway because the constant random easter egg sfx in port was always annoying. So with that in mind: Overall any changed sounds seem heavily compressed compared to before, producing some odd stereo distance flickering. The comm sounds (before "enemy fleet spotted" etc.) are especially unpleasant. Hull hit sounds are the only thing that's better imo. Water splash sounds go on for far longer than the visual effect and sound more like white noise than actual water (but the factual 'plop' of the shell impact is heavier which I do like). Building up the battle start sound even more is just unnecessary; I'd like to be able to disable it entirely anyway. Oh and the gun sound used by Gremyashchy still sounds like crap since like 20 updates ago. Also can we have that long reverb back on Warspite's guns? There's also an issue with the shell following effect played when you press Z (default) in that it plays lower pitced/slowed down on occasion (always on the first time doing it in a battle, sometimes even after that). This bug has been present since 2-3 updates ago. Separate volume sliders for others guns and your own guns would be great. The default balance has own guns being INCREDIBLY LOUD while everything else in the game is what seems to be over 25 decibels more quiet. I've turned down gunfire sounds a lot, almost to mute, just to get the setting to reduce their noise by any noticeable degree (is the slider not a linear adjustment, if you get what I mean?) but this means other players' gun sounds are incredibly quiet now while impacts of enemy shells on their hulls is still full volume. Finally here's a suggestion for the one thing you can improve with MOAR SOUNDS as your design teams seems so eager to do: Make the current secondary gun sound the one used by 75-100mm guns, then add some more epic sounds for progressively larger secondary calibres (a set for 120-155mm, then reserve another for larger guns in case you finally add any ships with those). Or even just set a unique sound per gun (not per ship as you've done — Tenryu/Kuma/Yubari/Katori guns should all sound the same, but they don't), and apply that to the secondaries (so Nagato secondaries will share the 14cm/50 and 12cm/40 gun sounds). Also make the secondary sounds not cut each other out when many overlap; this problem was introduced when the sound engine was updated (5.8?) and hasn't been fixed.

So why did you answer with very dissatisfied when you so easily understand what the question was getting at and how useless an emotionally-charged answer would be? Or was that question about the match specifically and not the game as a whole? 'Cause I've gotten both. Assuming game as a whole, I was playing Konig Albert when I was asked this and I still put dissatisfied, because, amused as I was, I would be playing KA even if she were weak and I shouldn't be able to go around faceraping innocent little Caledons with full HP devastating strikes so easily.

She is shown flying a 48-star flag, so is the depiction we have in game specifically from 1912-1916? In 1916 all Smith class destroyers received twin tubes with no reload in replacement for their original single tubes with one reload each, so I would probably associate the 48-star flag with this remodel, which doesn't exist in-game. I just would've thought she'd share the 46-star flag with the as-built 1912 Arkansas, since afaik nothing about her model in-game distinguishes her from a likewise as-built 1909 depiction.

800000 free exp for the Missouri?!
StringWitch replied to Acetessigester's topic in General Discussion
I had expected Missouri to be the price of a regular tier 9 (around 150-200k), just in free XP. With 50k saved from the past 4 months or so of playing semi-regularly I would consider that to be fair as a long-term goal, but anything over 250k is just ridiculous imo. -
Nvidia drivers (at least for GTX700 series) can't currently change WoWS AA settings to anything other than application-controlled, so they'll probably be on that by default anyway when it does unlock. Sucks that new games often drop MSAA support in favour of things that never look quite right when my system could run them at x4 MSAA fine anyway. Since the sound update for WoT I can't force MSAA for that either. It's a welcome surprise that WoWS is getting the one true AA solution.
-
The numbers are actually decals that are part of the ship's base skin. Indy/Texas/Saipan retain their numbers with camo removed, and Dunkqerue's camo is only the lowlighted bit on the hull indicating where to hit for big penetration damage.
-
Come at me bro. WoWS needs some real armoured cruisers to make cruisers great again.
-
Yes. WG/Lesta raises every ship to light load level so they die easier and the game moves faster. Some ships (eg. Warspite, Nurnberg) get lowered (though still not as low as they really should be) if they are particularly vulnerable and players clamour enough about it. Albert is a really strong ship so I doubt she'll be lowered, but they did fix this for Tirpitz so you never know... in a year's time.
