Ognevoi - How do you play it?

Because torps launched from short range are more difficult to avoid and no, my survival rate in torpedo runs is much higher than 25% because I use islands for concealement or only go for ships firing at someone else. Anyway, if you don't like that, just play IJN.

Ognevoi - How do you play it?

I play her exactly as a US DD, except that she's sturdier, faster and with overall better artillery. Her high speed allows me to go on quick torpedo runs and her short range torps are very difficult to avoid as they are fast and must be launched from that close. Overall I'm perfectly fine with her.

    Nagato

I've been experiencing copious amounts of duds lately, to a point that I'm wondering if all AP shells didn't get a heavy nerf. I can't get that thing to brawl without absorbing more damage than I can dish out either. I think I will remove the sec guns module to switch back to the long range one. Brawling is just too situational, you need the kind of support that most of the teams cannot provide.

    ! Königsberg - Max 1500 XP Cutoff?

Well, in fact there's no inherent "risk", just a lack of progress. But since the stock capt cannot progress all the same, and given both ships are premium with no retraining involved, I think I will use my well trained capt on Ognevoy and just shift him bck to Murmansk when playing with it. Overall I'm truly enjoying the experience and I'm grateful to WG for the opportunity, there were just a couple points left unexplained which puzzled me. Also, I just read in another thread that the modules (steering, gunnery etc not the ship upgrades of course) will be automatically uninstalled for free.

    ! Königsberg - Max 1500 XP Cutoff?

Before I thorougly read the terms of the deal I installed some modules on my Ognevoy, now I'm wondering if I'll have to uninstall them before the ship is gone or if this will be done by default, which I doubt. I have some doubts about the captain's experience too, IIRC the terms says the capt is going to stay and we could use it on the T I ship as with the ship exp, but if he's not going to gain any skill, apart from the 25 doubloons economy, I can't see the convenience. I could well use my well trained capt on Ognevoy and enjoy the party a little more.

    Ognevoi - advice needed.

Me too I have some doubts; just got her after an epic Cleveland game with 6 kills and I had both a well trained Soviet captain and credits to use on her. So here are my questions: - Would it be wiser to keep the "stock" captain or to use the better trained one? Transfers imply no retraining as both ships are premium, but at T VI I don't feel like using a capt with two skills only. - What will become of the modules once the ship is obliterated at the end of the test week? Will they be obliterated too? Will they be automatically transferred to the depot?

    Pensacola

Got this ship Yesterday, and I read this thread before. Thanks to your advices (stay with the fleet, keep angled just to name a few) I managed to not be the first to die on every occasion and consequently to not feel utterly disgusted. Indeed I find her fragile, perhaps too much if we consider the amount of punishment that USS Salt Lake City was able to absorb at Komandorsky Islands. While the armor is what it is, a higher HP pool is mandatory. The stock 8 guns configuration is nonsense too. Anyway I'm confident I could work her in a fine fighting ship as soon as I get out of the dumb capt - stock ship purgatory. I like her artillery more than Myoko's.

    myoko... help pls!

Indeed, I have incoming fire on my Kuma capt and it makes for a much safer play. I wouldn't say it changed my stats but it's just much more relaxing to know when someone is sniping you without having to be on the lookout for multiple targets. However, my Myoko capt doesn't have it and on such ships I think that a quick turret traverse is even more important, so that's the level 2 skill he's got; I'm almost done getting a 4th level skill and I'm going to choose adv fire training; I'll step back to incoming fire later, with the next 2 points.

Suggesting introducing 2 new "classes" of ships

Having a torpedo craft with 1 Km detection range, capable of running at 40 kts, almost impossible to hit and being able to hide behind his own smoke screen? No thanks, destroyers are already difficult enough to spot & sink.

    Tachibana

Edit: today I was whining about not having received my codes... This evening I got them in a very kind email It really made my day, it's just a T II but she's a fine looking little DD and in my very first battle I sunk three ships. I'm looking forward to further special offers from this publisher!

    Insults Insults Insults

I don't react any more to raging kids typing "Noob team", "Moron team", "Gay team" and so on, there's at least one every losing game. But I can't help answering to insults adressed specifically at me, I just try to use irony and sarcasm instead of mean words. Sometimes I wonder if those verbal attacks are just outbursts of frustration from kids masturbating too much of if they are some kind of psychological warfare aimed at distracting you from the battle. On the other hand, when I get killed by a chivalrous, skilled opponent I may compliment him on chat and get credit for that, which is rewarding for both. It doesn't take that much, just cool off the rage quit instinct and type "Nice duel". But I guess for many scumbags out there it's easier to get into the Dark Side and type some insults instead.

    Nagato

I'm trying to brawl after having set up my Mutsu (I decided mine is Mutsu, I like the name) accordingly but torps are really a deterrent, if I lead the way I'm sure to be in for some nasty surprises. Usually I begin by following the cruisers and sniping at long range; I don't get to brawling range until things are becoming messed up a bit on the enemy side.

    The Furutaka helped me study!

I played her before the upgrade and free-experienced her ASAP. Now for what I see on the receiving end she's become a respectable ship. Good firepower and sturdiness, altough I'm never afraid of her when I'm in the Murmansk or Omaha. I once got sunk in the Nagato by a determined fellow who ran some miles in the open dodging my salvoes and closing in for the torps, I was quite impressed.

    Torpedo bomber sandwich!

There's no way out but luckily those situations are quite rare as this kind of attack requires high skills and perfect timing. I must have seen this happen to me, say, one time per week.

    Regarding British Destroyers.

The M class with their fast firing DP 120 mm guns and the L class 8 x 102 mm subclass should really make for interesting ships. Also some A - I leaders with the 5 120 mm guns could be nice in mid tiers. I expect them to be sturdy and with high DPM as an equalizer.

    German Cruisers

Yesterday while playing in my Atago I had a chance to fire some rounds at an Admiral Hipper, probably there for testing, somebody else finished it but it was most rewarding to pound some crap on a brand new ship She had good ROF and accuracy however and the duel was evenly balanced.

Why is playing DD such suffering?

Currently playing the Hate-suharu and it's still kind of frustrating, even with some upgades and the capt having completed retraining. If the enemy has active Coward Vessels sending planes in all directions I feel really, really useless. If I have an occasion to close in to the CV she kills me with bombers. If I meet anyhing that can shoot back, it's crit show (that ship is really made of toilet paper). When I try the torps, I can't approach if I want to survive and I have too few torps to score from 6,5 kms. I'm considering selling it and getting back to Minekaze.

    Subguns viable?

What I hope is to have the option for the AA machine guns to be used agains ships. It was done in real life, sometimes to devastating effects. Imagine all the Bofors on high tiers US battleships opening up on another ship. About secondaries, I tried to beef them up on my Nagato and have not been deceived, it's like having a Kuma shooting for you at your side. On other ships less suitable for brawling however I use other modules (accuracy or long range).

    Kongo

Having grinded both all the way, I can't see how NY could be superior to Kongo. Her turret #3 has a very limited arc and you can't exploit all your firepower without renouncing to angling. When firing aft, it's turret #2 that can't reach. So, most of times you're only firing with 8 guns.. Speed is, bah, do I have to say it? I have never feared a NY while in the Kongo and the opposite was often true.

    Tachibana

Just purchased the single digital issue on my tablet via Google Play and sent the email asking for the code, let's just wait and hope...
  21. Well, the real turrets weren't really "armored", they weren't even splinter proof. They were made of thin steel sheet and just sheltered the crew from the elements. On ships so tight and overloaded like IJN destroyers, using armor was forbidden. That being said, this ship is really a tin can. I got killed/defeat or both in all the battles I played so far because of the reasons you already mentioned. I like her all the same, strangely, as I manage to bring at least an opponent to Hell with me each battle and I've got to love her guns, but I'd better not keep an eye on my stats if I'll keep playing with that origami much longer.
  22. Cosseria

Why is playing DD such suffering?

Indeed! Or else you have to remeber that a Samurai is always prepared to die at any moment, so just put your bow on a worthy enemy ship, close to < 2 km and lash out the torps. Then the others, instead of honoring your sacrifice, will start mocking you like "Noob DD" and such.

    warspite back on sale

50 euros for a T6? Hell, I wanted the ship to start training some RN captains for the future branch, but at this price I could have bought the T8 Turfpit... No way I'm going to sink that money in a ship which isn't event granted to perform better than NM or Fuso, which I already have.

    Atlanta.......

That's one of the few ships I'm never worried about. I just respect it when I'm in a DD but in a BB or CA... "Oooh, an Entrée!" So far, IIRC, I've never been sunk by an Atlanta. Too situational, big discrepancy between her size and her (lack of) armor.

Omaha Cruiser hull, B or C? Guns or AA?

My sincere hate for CVs (standing for Coward Vessels ) always leads me to choose the fit that can be more harmful for them, so I prefer C hull to splash down more planes and fire the occasional long range salvo to the fleeing CVs, altough I do admit that it doesn't make your Omaha an Aegis cruiser if compared to B hull. Extra range is perhaps the most valuable improvement, expecially if coupled with the accuracy module.
