Carrier Dilemma: to be useful, or to earn rewards
SFCGunny313 replied to g1g5's topic in General Discussion
CV play with strike setups takes a certain amount of patience with micro-management. I've experimented with air superiority setups, but it doesn't fit my play style. I'd rather have the ability to do damage to the enemy team, since, I can at least attempt to reduce the enemy hit point pool. While a fighter/air superiority setup can be effective at times, overall I find it too limiting, and don't enjoy simply clicking on enemy fighter icons. -
Well said and worth repeating. I am pleased to see the level of support, and of course, I fully expected some of the personal attacks and troll comments. In time, I think the silent majority here on the forums will have their voice and make the forums a bit better, particularly for our newer players joining us.

Some good support, some good discussion...actually a few rather funny replies, and a few that definitely show a lack of maturity...all to be expected.

What I plan to do, as a guide for myself: - Have I interacted with the person before? If so, then maybe I can. - Really, I think it will all be situational. If someone seems to take offense, didn't get the joke, or whatever - then we should back off. - Is the person you intend to troll being abusive/demeaning/elitist/pretentious? Then they probably deserve and can accept the trolling.

Partially agree. I don't think a single member of this community would ever wish an overly large and toxic player base on the game. However, we do have to recognize we will need new players to replace those who leave - there will always be some ebb and flow of the player base. I'm glad to hear you support that we, as a community, should clean up our forums. I'm not suggesting being purists, nor angels, as previously mentioned.

Appreciate your support.

Unwarranted and unhelpful. Does not contribute to the discussion. While you certainly have a right to disagree, coming across as toxic is not acceptable. Report submitted.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what I'm referring to. No player coming to an official forum of a game should have to deal with that.

@Allied_Winter To clarify, I don't mean to insinuate all members of reddit are abusive/toxic, etc. Nor did mean it to come across as I, or anyone else here is better than people who post on reddit. That said, based on what I've seen on those forums, I'm hopeful we won't see that same level of toxicity appear on these forums.

I believe there is a difference in coming across as pretentious or elitist, compared to recognizing abusive, abrasive and toxic comments.

Arguing a point, engaging in debate, presenting opposing ideas - absolutely. I wasn't referring to any of that, and people should feel free to engage in discussions. And I'm also not referring to a need for everyone to like every post and be jolly all the time. However, there is absolutely no need for abrasive, abusive, or demeaning comments. What I think we need to present is a forum that is more helpful and provides valuable advise for new members. I fear, if we continue down the path we are on, the game will suffer in the long term. Many of us migrated away from World of Tanks precisely because of the level of toxicity and abuse present in that game.

I don't think many people would disagree with my view that reddit can be extremely toxic and abrasive. Yes, there are some helpful people there, but seem to be outnumbered by the toxic people.

Thanks. We can all do better. We all need to be self-aware of how we come across in the forums, and in-game as well. If we have an alpha or beta tester tag, or fly those flags in game, then by default, we represent the game.

US Battleships - why so much hate ?
SFCGunny313 replied to anonym_gxxGX7KaxQVa's topic in General Discussion
As players and members of the community who post and try to be of assistance, we should all engage in more self-policing of the forums in order to reduce unhelpful, sarcastic, demeaning or abusive posts. -
Can't agree with those assessments. Each of the ships you mentioned, all premium ships, and 3 of them not yet available to the general player population (as they were only available during Closed Beta), have unique play styles. Yubari has pretty good AA for a tier 4 cruiser, and although the turret traverse is rather slow, the rate of fire is pretty good. With a little swerving here and there to help the turret traverse (and the wiggle certainly helps you avoid incoming rounds), it can deal some decent damage. Atlanta has an amazing rate of fire, although the overall range takes quite a bit of situational awareness. However, using a level 4 captain with advanced firing training increases the range to 13.3km, I believe? Warspite, at least for me, is a hit or miss ship. You need to swing her heavy [edited]around to help with the turret traverse - but enemy players love targeting her. Sims, again, amazing rate of fire, and with a level 4 captain with advanced firing training, you get a range of 15.5km, which means you can effectively stealth fire, and the torp range is 9.2 km, albeit they are very slow torps. Gremy - one of my favorite ships. Again, level 4 captain and you can stealth fire with rapid firing guns, and 8km torps certainly help her effectiveness.

Insulting and demeaning. An alpha tester should better represent the game to players and should refrain from such abrasive comments in the forum.

US Battleships - why so much hate ?

Everyone just calm down. OP has an opinion, and he is certainly entitled to his opinion. Overall, I tend to agree with both OP and Tyrendian89. US BB line was definitively more painful to grind. Colorado remains the ONLY ship I've used free XP to bypass as it was just too painful to play. Now granted - I'm a mere 2000 battle player, and only have the NC and Nagato, but overall, the IJN line was easier and more fun. The drastic differences in overall main battery range, particularly at mid-tier make US BBs quite challenging. Now all that said - it comes down to play style preference and adaptability. It's one of the things I enjoy with this game (it's also why I'm still only at a few tier 8 ships because I play all the lines). -

Either be helpful in the thread and help answer the OPs question, or don't bother posting. -

Considering you were an Alpha tester, have over 10K battles, and have tier 10 CVs...you could have actually provided this new player some valuable tips. If you don't have anything of value to offer, then why even bother posting a reply to his question. -
How to learn the use of aircraft carriers

KptStrzyga and Goats_Beard both gave you some good tips. There is another option - download a mod which enables the Training Room, from there you can practice even more, and can choose whether the bot ships move, stay stationary, use their guns or not (of course, as I mentioned in another thread - the damn Training Room should be enabled by default in the game). CV play is all about micro-management. At tier 4, you start with just a few squadrons of planes...as you progress, particularly with the Japanese line of CVs, you get more squadrons. Try to move, and stay 10-15km behind your fleet. If you stay stationary, particularly in well known CV parking spots....you'll get either sniped by the enemy CV player, or hunted by a DD. Learn the AA capabilities of enemy ships. Pay attention to enemy movements, and try to go after those players, especially BB players who like to sail in a nice straight line... Learn what ships to avoid - some Cruisers and some BBs have particularly strong AA and will shred your planes and completely disrupt your attack. -
[edited] OP - experiment a bit and find the type of ship you both enjoy and do well in battle. There are numerous threads, youtube videos, wikis, etc. that will help you understand which captain skills will increase your performance in a given ship class. If you're getting knocked out of battle early and consistently, maybe you're pushing too far too quickly, or not using the rest of the fleet to your advantage. For example, if you're still learning the game, don't try to go to one side alone - that's a recipe for an early return to port. In low to mid tiers, cruisers might be a better choice. Destroyers take a bit to learn the specific strengths and weaknesses (torp ranges, leading targets, stealth fire, when to use smoke, etc.). Battleships are the most RNG dependent, so even a carefully aimed salvo at citadels is not even a guarantee to do any damage. Once you get comfortable with a certain ship class and/or nation, however, you'll find you're having fun, doing more damage, and helping your team to both survive and win.

Bad/Needs Improvement: - Royal Navy needs to be included in the game ASAP - In game chat - history randomly disappears (which doesn't happen in another Wargaming platform, World of Tanks) - Training Room - currently only enabled through a mod download, or manual changes to a config file - again, in World of Tanks, it's available to everyone - Community Manager communication - Lack of full unification with other Wargaming platforms. This was "promised" long ago, but is still lacking. Gold/Doubloons and free experience should be shared among all Wargaming platforms as soon as possible. - CV play - little point in playing high tiers; more competitive and fun at mid-tiers - Ship icons - standard in game icons are garbage; use a mod to get icons that actually give you information you need - Bot programs - always a problem in Wargaming platforms Good/Sustain: - Diversity - National tech lines have a sense of uniqueness - Graphics and Sound - consistent improvements; game has a good feel, look and sound - Learning curve - stable; if players take the time to learn the game, and progress through the tech trees, and experiment with different nations and ship classes, the game is not hard - Randomness - many complain about the matchmaking; I am NOT a fan of skill based matchmaking (see other threads for full discussion and reasons)

Perhaps you missed the post where another member quoted stats. Oh my, not statistics to prove a point - but yes. So the "proof" as you requested, is held up by the statistics of the current game meta. Russian ships are consistently better than the other lines in XP, damage and win rate. Oh, but never mind....you don't care about actual proof.
