Id recommend us lines for new players. Play both bb and cruiser lines to t5-t6 then revaluate. You could pick up texas or the upcoming new t7 us bb premium or swap to ijn to mix things up. Stick to tiers 1-6 to learn the game and dont rush it. Swap nations to find your style. You could also consider picking incoming fire alert captain skill to automaticly dodge when fired upon since learning situational awaressness takes time. You can drop it later. Overall information Few things before i start before people get an idea this is just another rant from BB mafia. I'm full on IJN DD player with +400 games of fubuki on ranked. Finished Current season with 57,82% winrate with all games played as Fubuki. While this doesnt mean i consider myself "good" since im quite new the scene, i think i could write something up about current situation. This is not "lets nerf IJN DD's!" "Let's nerf torpedo's!" - honestly statistics pretty much paint the truth about the situation, whats that? IJN DD's are not dominating and are not considered strongest role at the moment by statistics, they are just most played out of tier X DD's, now, this is a problem. Overall on lower tiers, some branches are having issues, some ships are very weak, some are strong. I think this disparity of ships has caused alot of frustration to DD population in general, since noone likes to get flamed in their new shining hatsu while the dude he just torped with his crappy torps is shouting all kinds of filt he heard the big guys on tier X are complaining about. Tier IX and X IJN DD's IJN Ships, Shimakaze and Kagero. Now, it might be a bit unfair to toss Kagero and Shimakaze into the same basket, i feel they are "different" from rest of the IJN line. The general lack of counterplay outside CV planes makes their gameplay boring and unhealthy. Average player in these ships has way too much room for error to make IJN gameplay intresting. This isnt what most of the DD's players want. I personally would like to get challenged, to have more disadvantages to counter the offensive power of torps. Hell, ive decided not to buy shimakaze just because how disgusting the situation with it currently is. The ship isnt as much op as uninspiring. Lets tackle some of these issues shall we? IJN HE and GUN ARC 2100 HE damage IJN gun arc, high alpha damage on its HE shells, and superior concealment. This combination is annoying as hell to gunships. Problem? This does add to the frustration when dealing with IJN IX/X ships. Ofcourse IJN cannot gun down DD's on a duel, however opening on USN DD from stealth wrecking his frontal guns, or doing high "burst" dmg, makes it frustrating as hell to encounter. IJN guns cannot, while weakest point of IJN, be considered a real "weakness" - There is no real threat to IJN running away from gun boat, and this makes the gameplay too "safe" - Blasting gunboats frontal turrets into wind might even get you "excited" thinking just how much the poor man is raging with his "counter to your shiat" ship. Now, if you are playing IJN just because you no longer want to be on receiving end, you could consider this interaction "fun" - oww well, i think its disgusting. When dealing with chasing gunships the rate of fire doesnt really count as much as it should, this is, unless you get caught. If you do, its basicly your own fault. Shimakaze Mobility 39 kt Max Speed 3 s Rudder Shift Time 690 m Turn Radius Kagero Mobility 35 kt Max Speed 4 s Rudder Shift Time 640 m Turn Radius This is a shameful display, fastest tier X Cruiser runs at 35 knots, with hinderburg at the tail with 31 knots. Let's be honest here, cruisers are no threat to shimakaze unless spotted by plane or another DD. The REAL problem is you cannot run down a DD even if you knew where it is by pin point accuracy. You just cant. 5 knots is way way too big of a difference to punish even the average Shimakaze driver, most of all, its just plain boring for shimakaze player to have this much room for error. This is toxic gameplay design at its best. Torpedos: I dont have much to say about the torpedos to be honest. I consider them last thing you should change about the shima and kagero. You could say the speed should be dropped to make them more about zone control than total destruction. I'd personally would like slower torps to make "sniping" with torps more difficult. What you can say, the offensive power combined with little to no weakness is the reason for full shimakaze games, and as DD driver, it feels wrong. Last words I know this subject is beaten to death currently, i just think they should make IJN top tier alot harder to play = > design changes => and perhaps as last resort, nerfs to HE damage, concealment and DD speed. This would fix the imbalance (imbalance of triple of the numbers of shimakaze's being played, not the raw power) into more enjoyable experience. why all this wall of text? I simply stopped playing IJN after fubuki due to change in gameplay. Its a shame, really. Thank you for reading.
