They could make, as I said in the other thread, a version akin to that of the auto-aim in WoT without the snap-on of course. If you turn this aim-assist on it will affect accuracy of your gun. Sure, you would aim at a spot that might be a good one but you would have a lot better accuracy if you aimed it manually. Just like the auto-aim in WoT, which is mostly useful in a handful of situations. This will teach people where and how to lead better, but they will not auto-magically hit more infact less. When they've, through observation, learned how to lead the targets they can go manual and hit more. The practical use of such an aim-assist in WoWs when compared to WoT's auto-aim is where you are in a situation where you have to dodge a lot, or you're close to landmass and you can not spend time zoomed in much. You could them fall back on the aim-assist and manoeuvre the ship better at the same time, still knowing that it is just a poor substitute for manual aim.

I know it seems like they were just dropped there, no idea why the trails are so short but they had travelled a lot more distance than what is shown on the screen shot. I was not in scope mode and switched, franticly in regular view trying to steer clear of the torps, and it is not the first time this has happened. As you see from that image two of those torpedoes did actually "hit" as their trails stop while the rest continues. Just no effect. My ping rate is around 50-60ms to the server, no packet loss, never any lag or jerking in-game. On a rock solid 100 mbit line, good routing, miles over the max requirements as hardware goes. Never seen gunfire or smoke from smokestacks appearing in any other places than where they should.

That would, especially in WoT, would probably alleviate a lot of the tension that builds up in games. Perhaps WoWs as well.

I find it extraordinarily funny, curious and odd at the same time. In WoT these threads pop up every now and then, and here they are too. Similarities from both games, for me, is that I can still count on one hand the times I have been tk'd on purpose. Now, I just play WoT and I test WoWs. I always treat people with respect, I am never rude, I do not shoot at people on purpose, I do not tell others what to do. Since I am never tk'd, then I wonder what I am doing "wrong" compared to those that get ganked by others. That being said, tk'ing in any deliberate form is something I would never condone and never take part in.

For those that care about stats and such it will be a nightmare, as no one will ever believe they got good stats because of skills but because of the mod.
-
Yes, it had to be something else and not auto-aim. I think that this is what WG was trying to achieve with their script but realized it was too accurate thus removed it. And then it was "activated" again through mods. Something like this, but with reduced accuracy, I could live with. Akin to WoT's auto-aim, which is not exactly stellar either.
-
What WG could do is make a WoWs-version of auto-aim in WoT, and we all know how "good" that auto-aim is. Never trust auto-aim in WoT, but it has a function and it is pretty much up to RNG even at close ranges. While not really a lock-on feature in WoWs it could be something similar to a firing-lead but inaccurate. Personally I think accuracy in WoWs is too high as it is atm, I seem to hit pretty much what I point at except fast destroyers but that is just a matter of exercising more.

Torpedoes that appear to pass underneath is said to be server-lag related, but two times I have had torpedoes that should have hit me not detonate. First time I did not react fast enough to get a screenshot, but this time I did. As you can see the from the trails there are two torpedoes that should have hit the bow of my ship, thus the broken trails. They just disappeared when they got there.

What will happen, in fairly short order, is that the huge influx of new players will split in to two groups. Those who want to test the game, be part of the beta-test, and those that want just want to play. The latter will find the test-phase boring, and as soon as the novelty wears off they'll just wait for the release or play more seldom. Until we have such a divide we pretty much have to treat everyone as potential testers, and games will swing from good wins to bad losses. -

I am going to be very honest with you here, you have to be able to take games as they come when you beta-test. Not just this game, but any game. Not only because people do "stupid things" because they do not know how strategy works but also because some people are testing things. Trying to reproduce bugs, errors, glitches. That will cause them to behave irrationally, and games will be lost because of this. If losing games bothers people, then maybe beta-testing is not for those. That is the honest, hard, truth. While it is good to start having strategy threads remember that this is not a finished game and that we are beta-testers. A match is a match, whether it is a loss or a win. What matters, the only thing that matters, are the testing that gets done and the feed back of such either by automatic data-collection or by bug-feedback from the testers. -

You can catch a lot more flies with honey yes and teaching rather than flaming is a much better way to do it. :-) Even so, we all need to remember to not discourage people from trying things out, even though it may seem stupid, as said before because it is a test. All data is valid. I am currently trying to reproduce something that happened yesterday when an ally fired torpedoes and I was in the way and my battleship had no chance avoiding the. Beep-beep and all that, torpedoes apparently slammed in to my ship but nothing. No explosion, no damage. So I will be riding around today trying to catch torpedoes at different ranges, with different ships, different maps and all that which a beta-tester has to do. Yes it is odd to observe, yes it has nothing to do with how we would play the game at release, but it is part of the process of a beta-tester. To boldly seek out stuff, and boldly go, where no one has gone before. ;-) -

It's been about 15 years since I entered my first beta-test, Anarchy Online. After that it's been a lot, from single-player, multi-player to MMO's. There is nothing that hurts beta-testing more than solely by-the-book gameplay. Playing the game as it was a release, not doing "stupid" stuff does not find the quirks and bugs in a game. This was drilled in to us by developer time and time again. While team-killing is not preferred the guys that yolo will discover features and issues those that are careful does not. Just like a guy in a game I had earlier who got stuck somewhere near an island. When this game is released we can start to talk about these things like we do in WoT, although I hope not because I was starting to enjoy the civility of this game. But as long as this game is in beta, anything that is within the rules of gameplay goes. Yolo is allowed, doing crazy, horrendously stupid shite goes. And when WG sells ships that gives people access to the CBT you can be 150% sure that anything they do with those ships, if it is within the game-rules it goes. -
Should be possible with this engine. Old Empire Total War's engine managed to have rough seas, and that is not really more advanced than this one. :-)
-
Somewhat far off from higher tiers but weather would be a cool factor, engagements in a storm f.ex. High waves, low visibility. To some, but limited, extent rough seas would mimic the behaviour of elevation albeit temporarily. Sure, we'd also miss a lot more but that just adds to the fun and 'oh-noes/shite' factor as well. :-)
-
I sat 8 minutes in queue with my tier 2 earlier, waiting now as well. Tier 2 cruiser list seems to not decrease much while tier 2 destroyers seem to get in to queues faster than nothing. My guess is that MM wants destroyers, or a certain number of destroyers, in a game thus the long wait for cruisers. It'd be nice if MM would burp like in WoT when you're out of a ship class and just put you in a game with just or mainly cruisers. :-) Or we could wait 8-10 minutes.

Thanks for the information, +1.

^^ This. Thing though, said before, is the people left playing this game will just download it and play with the aim-bot and it becomes an arcade ship-combat game. Emphasis on arcade. And we all know how well the word 'arcade' "sells" among those who are somewhat serious about gaming. If they lose money on it, or realize they will lose money on it, they will ban it/change their stance. Thing is, if they do that too late as in when the game already has a reputation for being an arcade shooter it will be too little, too late.
-
Cheating or no cheating, illegal or legal, do people seriously want this mod to be in the game? I for one do not.
-
There are MMO's out there that has easy access to these, and they are filled with people who use them and the reputation of those games are less than stellar and so are the online-numbers. I'll try the free2play version of the game, but I'll never drop a single dime on it until mods like these are banned/removed.
-
First I was like whey, maybe get a pre-order ship and then read this thread and I'm not going to spend one cent on the game in any state of it when I get access to it before this mod is banned or otherwise removed. If this becomes a standard feature then it's all arcade and then what will the fun be? I seriously hope WG does something about this.
