    The Yugumo

Yugumo is interesting. She has good torps but these are just two launchers and they reload long (well, it IS tier 9). I don't feel like they are enough and so I actually build Yugumo as stealth-shooting gunboat (she has great range, good stealth and flat firing arcs!). As for torps, I'm not sure what to do, however. The short ones would allow for more torpedo damage. Long ones mostly relegate torpedoes to the role of secondary weapon but also give them better synergy with the long-range gun support role (since you can try supplementary torping without getting to distance where you can't shoot guns without exposing yourself to devastating retaliation). I use longer-range torps but I have a feeling that I'm missing on some potential of the short ones. Sometimes the enemy isn't a DD you can deal good damage to with guns and scratching paint of bigger ships and setting them on fire sometimes just doesn't cut it. Still, the results are there - Yugumo gives me 58%+ winrate, over 45k average DMG and 1,4 K/D. For me, at least, that's not bad. And frankly, I have zero incentive to move to Shima. I mean... I don't really see that extra launcher to be worth going back to guns that are pretty much useless when facing anything that's not another Shima. Pure torpboats are ok on low tiers when torps reolad fast, BBs are oblivious and have abysmal maneuverability, not to mention lack of Radars and long-range Hydro. But at high tier? DDs just need some proper guns. To pass the time between torp reloads, if nothing else.

Akizuki: 20 +1 = 21 It's a... special ship. She has her own unique playstyle. And I don't think she's some amazingly powerful machine with her speed, rudder shift and turning circle that are simply laughable for a DD. But boy, is she fun! Despite all drawbacks, she's currently my main ship. I even bought premium camo for her despite the fact that I don't really pay much for the game AND t8 premium camos seem unsatisfying with measly +50% XP bonus. Kagero: 20 Benson: 21 Benson/Lo Yang (Def. AA): 17 Lo Yang (Mk. 15 mod. 0): 20 Lo Yang (Mk 32): 20 Z-23: 20 Mogami (155mm): 20 -3 = 17 I don't think feel these guns are really viable as they currently are. The whole ship is... less than satisfying, a big disappointment after previous ships in the line Mogami (203mm): 17 Atago: 22 New Orleans: 17 Chapayev: 20 Mikhail Kutuzov: 21 Admiral Hipper: 20 Prinz Eugen: 20 Edinburgh: 20 Amagi: 20 North Carolina: 20 Alabama ST: 20 Tirpitz: 20 Bismark: 20 Shokaku (2/2/2): 20 Shokaku (3/1/2): 20 Lexington (1/1/1): 20 Lexington (2/0/2): 17 Lexington (0/1/3): 20

Yeah i think im gonna like this ship.

It's not OTT, it's still a free premium ship with no time limit to get it. Basically, you can spend a year grinding missions if you need.

Adrenaline Rush - does it work on CV squadrons?

I thought about that when I first saw this skill, but the thing is - I doubt it will really get much use like that. You see, what you want to do in a carrier is keep relatively close to your fleet to reduce travel times and to let them defend you from some pesky little bugger if need arises. This, however, comes with a risk: you may get spotted, especially by enemy planes. Now, normally it doesn't matter much. Enemies are really far and you're a moving target that doesn't decrease in effectiveness from non-fatal damage. Shooting at you is wasted shells (unless you're bad out of position). However... that's assuming you're on more-or-less full hp. Imagine if you enter the battle at 1/2 or 1/3 hp (forget even the time lost on getting damaged in the first place). You need to play much more carefully as suddenly you're MUCH more vulnerable to both CV sniping by your counterpart and long-range fire. You'll waste at least some of your gained servicing time improvement by staying further away and you're just that much more fragile AND you've spent some captain points on that... I might be wrong but I don't expect these tactics to be very popular since, while they CAN give you a slight edge, it's unlikely that it will be worth it. Especially on IJN CVs that suffer more from landing/takeoff times than servicing - the latter doesn't take that long and you only really tend to wait for the first-landed squadron to be ready. Before it's in the air, the rest is usually ready too (since you tend to send them and receive them back as a group).

Adrenaline Rush - does it work on CV squadrons?

Isn't Test Server running right now? https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/public-test/public-test-061/ You can just grab a 15-point captain and the skill you want, then torp yourself (just not too hard) and see if the plane servicing time decreases... Still, I'm pretty sure it does work for planes too, since they explicitly put a plane on the icon. Although I'm also surprised you have so much points left unspent, I don't really suffer from similar "problem" on my Taiho (with 17, if I'm not mistaken, point captain).

Elimination thread 3: Tier VII *Winner!*

There are some contenders - ships very similar to premiums that people find just slightly less attractive. These are likely to lose some of "their" votes as people preferring particular style of play support a ship that might be just VERY slightly better (or just win by the comfort of being premium). But, yeah, maybe not to the extent shown in the vote but the difference is there...

    AA is very overpowered

Wait, what? AA is, indeed, very powerful (might say OP) on high tiers. Low tiers, however!? These things hardly have anything to shoot up unless your CV is severely uptiered... And low tier IJN CVs... you mentioned Zuiho - can you even grasp how big of an advantage it is to have 2 torpedo squadrons rather than one!? Or zero, because that's how many AS decks on these carriers get them... US CVs, even in air superiority set-up, don't get more than 2 fighter groups. And ship AA (other than early AA cruisers) is mostly irrelevant. Basically, all you need is to outplay enemy CV that has 2 fighter squadrons to cover the whole map. While you have one squadron that can be sacrificed to save your bombers. AND if the enemy is running US air superiority then, guess what - if you manage ONE good airstrike, you've probably already contributed to the battle more than he possibly can. You might not get more XP, mind you (shooting down planes is relatively profitable) but with one successful strike against enemy air superiority CV - you've likely pulled your own weight and more because he has too few planes to effectively spot and too small damage potential to outweight that one good drop of yours. And frankly? Unless he HEAVILY outplays you, you should be able to deliver more than one good drop. Basically... Enemy US AS set-ups are frustrating, yes. They'll probably lower your XP and Damage. That's how it works. But the screwed ones are their own teammates, really. And on low tiers it might be even more pronounced than anywhere else.

I got it! I got the Dragon ship but...

The problem being - it takes much less effort to just grab appropriate mod to re-skin all your ships to whatever shining variant you want.

Elimination thread 3: Tier VII *Winner!*

Blyskawica: 10+1 = 11 - I don't agree about being unfriendly to unexperienced players. She is pretty tough for a DD, has the speed to gtf out of trouble and sports some serious (invisi)firing range, the accuracy and the shell travel time to remain in game even on low hp. Sure, proper invisifire requires either AFT or CE but she still seems more forgiving than other t7 DDs, not less. Belfast: 16-3 = 13 - a powerful ship but I just don't see her as a winner here; seriously - DDs score citadels on her! Scharnhorst: 8

I got it! I got the Dragon ship but...

They really should include the "show X ships" in options, not in carousel filters. And they really should include them for everyone. We were, in fact, told that special ships in time would become exclusive for older players and a badge of honor or something (I believe that was part of the BS explanations for why it's ok for Nachi mission to be ridiculous) - but it's not a badge of honor to show off since THEY CAN'T BE SEEN BY NEW PLAYERS EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO. These new players might see strange names in post-battle report and that's it, they literally can't see ARP and the like, not because they don't want or because they didn't find the option to turn them on - they just don't get such option, at all.

    Directional Center for aircraft

Just don't count planes in your hangar, count consumable uses. You have a fixed number of them and the skill doesn't reduce it. It is "up to X times during a battle you can launch floatplanes". It doesn't matter if you launch 1 or 2 at a time. It doesn't matter if they get shot down or return safely. You have X uses of the consumable and as long as you have some left (and it's off CD) you can launch planes. Without the skill in question, it will launch 1. With it it will launch 2. Number of times or cooldown or duration are not affected by the skill in any way.

Doubloon Camo and Akizuki Tier 8 Destroyer

They explicitly stated somewhere that missing ships from this line are going to be added. The problem is that they likely don't even know what to add yet, as they would've probably at least mentioned that...

    Public test client-standard client

OF COURSE NOT. Are you insane!? Do you realise how ridiculously more beneficial it would be to play on PT than on live server!? Look how much credits and doublons (to buy any in-client purchasable premium ship) you get just for logging in to PT! The next step (and not that long step either) from your question would be "Can I use my monopoly money in gambling for real money? Will it be added to the next edition of Monopoly?" There are benefits to be had on live server - the standard set is 3x each flag pretty much for participating as well as 1 day premium and some camos for doing a bit more than just participating (usually things like get X xp or win Y games - possibly in some specific class/nation/whatever)

Doubloon Camo and Akizuki Tier 8 Destroyer

I'd certainly like to see a better perma camo for Akizuki. I'd also like to see the tree extended. They kinda hinted that they are going to do that... so, well, perhaps we'll get the missing two ships right after Russian CV line... Still, Akizuki just gets the standard benefits (and price) of t8 premium camo. It's just normal t8 silver ship treatment.

So, what are you bringing to ranked?

Hiryu fares pretty well against Saipan. The problem with it lies elsewhere - while Hiryu gets you about the same win% as Saipan, it has problems getting topXP (more so than Saipan at least). So while it is similar in earning stars, it bleeds more of them because you're almost never on top of the XP. And while there were some changes to economy, they hardly favored CVs so I expect problem to get even more severe - Saipan will probably still get top XP from time to time, Hiryu will probably have it even worse. Although that only time can tell. Still, what will remain is the fact that CVs have lots of impact on Rankeds. Few other ships and exactly one enemy CV. It's comparable to being in a 1v1 DD situation - every single match. If you manage to outplay your counterpart, your team has a HUGE advantage.
  16. eliastion

    Honorable Service - Clear Sky

The achievement is ridiculous since it counts POTENTIALLY launched planes. A ship has a big complement of floatplanes but doesn't use them much? These planes are unreachable but still count. It can be done, but I really don't expect to see any in non-CV and for CVs? I actually did get one in Taiho last week. Not expecting any more this year, though...
  17. That's blatantly false as it depends heavily on both tier, class, playstyle AND team composition. 50k damage on a gunboat could very well mean 2-3 full hp DDs sunk plus some extra damage to whatever squished in between - that sounds like a contribution that should secure a victory unless the rest of the team is made up of total potatoes. That being said, 50k damage on t7 carrier doesn't sound very impressive. If it was mainly done to BBs and considering that CVs don't really tank or cap (they may spot, however), these numbers suggest a much less impressive game than 50k damage on t6 cruiser. Carriers do, in fact, suffer from broken economy but the screenshots provided by OP aren't the best example for that (even ignoring the fact that GS is a premium).

    Musing on RPF

The potential problem with it never really seemed to apply to Randoms, though. People were claiming otherwise but the reality of Randoms is that in that great blob of ships that hardly even try to cooperate, such a skill is mostly wasted. Things do potentially change in Randoms and - especially - team battles. Basically, this skill provides extra information. If one person has that information, it's not worth that much. If, however, this ship properly communicates with teammates and they properly respond to this info? Well, then suddenly the cost burdens one ship but benefits aren't only to that one ship. It's a bit like good smoke and Radars - they aren't really that game-changing in Randoms but it's hard to overestimate their impact on meta of high-league Rankeds. Will RPF join them in that aspect? Hard to say until reality verifies that. Rankeds are coming, however. What's left is to wait till top leagues get populated a bit - and then see how common and how meta-changing the skill really is. The same for Team battles, of course.

    Musing on RPF

From the beginning I questioned its expected popularity and impact on Randoms. You're literally the first person who tried "shutting me down" for my opinion not being exactly as that person's. I've also seen many people questioning the impact on the game regardless of mode. The response they received were arguments for why their opinion is wrong (according to people answering). You are the epitome of the problem you perceive. You don't come here with your opinion - you come here to insult people you don't agree with and to advise them to leave the game. And when they respond less than favorably, you consider it a proof of how people who don't like RPF try to shut down dissenting opinions. The problem isn't them, however - the problem lies with you and your attitude that simply receives answer appropriate to the tone you yourself set. And it really doesn't matter what your opinions are at that point - because the "shutting down" you experience isn't based on them but on the attitude with which you present them.
  20. It's getting back to ridiculous in two days, sorry... WG believes that a huge paywall on skill reset (especially since you can't just change a single skill, you reset EVERYTHING) is what we need. Well, at least there's elite xp so a re-spec on a single captain once a year is within reach EDIT: Today? Wasn't it supposed to last 'till the end of the month?

    Musing on RPF

So... let me get this straight. I said that it won't affect Randoms much - but was worried about Rankeds. So now, that I've been more-or-less proven true on the first part, I somehow become an example of guys who all 'IQUIT'. I'm sorry to inform you but (il)logical leaps of this kind suggest that any and all opinions you might have on any and all topics are useless by default.

    Dragon "camo" bonuses?

Yep. Also, they don't take IJN captains.

    Weekend special 25k base exp

This mission is a bad joke. Or, perhaps, someone set the wrong flag and it was supposed to be 25k XP rather than 25k BASE xp. 25k XP a day with weekend doubles would probably be ok. As it is, base 25k? And all for 5 dragon flags? Funny.
  24. eliastion

    Musing on RPF

Well, it's exactly as I have foreseen - the skill is pretty rare and even when someone has it - it doesn't change that much in Randoms at all. So, well, so farm I'm not surprised in the slightest. From the start my fears were about Ranked and Team battles. I don't participate in the latter so what's left is Rankeds - we'll see how it works there.

Elimination thread 3: Tier VII *Winner!*

I just picked the most obvious case (a ship that precious few people might have bu that's not and will not be sold again). But it's hardly the only rare ship. The idea that some ships should be exempted from critique just because nobody has them is ridiculous and turns the whole idea of these elimination threads on their heads. Also, I'm not sure where you see the proof for the point that current rules are ambiguous, seeing how the example given by me was precisely about someone believing Kitakami to be the best ship that ever graced the seas of Wows with her presence.
