What would be the best choice for upcoming T8 ranked?
Prospect_b replied to luokailk's topic in General Discussion
Halleluja. When I first heard it was just a sprint, I was kinda sad that WG would allow me only so little griefing with the skypox they developed for that purpose. Thanks for the assurance though. Here's a picture of my Enterprise in port: -
What would be the best choice for upcoming T8 ranked?

Shoka and Lex as well are both up for the task, enty is better but sure, if you don't have her and are a competent CV, you can make them work, and it beats trusting the random cv assigned to you by matchmaking. Lex might even have some advantage, cause she can deal with what I expect to come, the massa-spam, better than Enty or Shoka. -

best CV: Enterprise (Shoka as a decent second choice if you lack Enty) best BB: Massa, but Enterprise is better best CA/CL: Radar edin/chappy/balti but Enterprise is better and will AP the living daylights out of you best DD: none, cause Enterprise does everything better and will blow you out of the water with 36 balansrockets per squad. If you really wanna go that way, lo yang or lightning, but don't come cry afterwards. I'm sure @El2aZeR will look upon this reply as being too kind, cause it should just have said Enterprise in all four categories. -
Nice to hear, curious about your experience with Manjaro. I never got the taste for it, though I think I gave it a try for about 2 to 3 months. And to follow your good news: I just now ranked out ;) Yeay for both of us!

How did you come to wows, when, and how do you see the game's future and your place in it?
Prospect_b posted a topic in General Discussion
I thought I'd start a topic that combines both (vaguely) personal and gameplay topics. In essence, the title speaks for itself, but - what brought you to this game (you just saw it was free and gave it a try, you're a naval history buff, a friend recommended it, etc? In my case, I am a history buff in general, but mostly antiquity & middle ages to early modernity. Though I have a decent knowledge of both world wars, and hence I found World of Tanks, and tried that. Boy, did I regret that fast :D But for some reason I went to try another WG game, (wows....) and I liked it. Since then I also read/watched some more about WW2's naval history. - how long have you been playing? Autumn 2016. - What did you like, and did it change? I remember really liking those first few months especially. You're new, there's the "excitement" of "how will the next boat in this line be?" etc. Although of course I sucked hard (you can easily see which lines I started with on my profile, german cruisers & bbs) but most of the lower tier gameplay (at that point) looked at point to me (as in faster/more arcady). The stories I heard about "high tier play" were almost legends about long tactical play, with minutes of positioning before smt happened etc. I don't know in how far that was true at that point. It must have been a year before I reached some tier tens, and even then I didn't like the gameplay (can't exactly pinpoint what I didn't like anymore) I started with the german cruisers, but one I got to t5/6 life got too hard for a newb as me. K- and N-bergs aren't really too kind on new players. So I went masterrace after a while, but I got annoyed (this was a certain period with a lot of Atago spam) of "those invisible [edited]HE spammers" and went back to cruisers, IJN this time, who have an easier time in the mid tiers given their playstyle. I'd say for most of my wows life I'd consider myself a "cruiser main", although my numbers don't really show too much preference (and reeework changed a lot). I also got curious about dds after a while. This is when I went to a first clan, (hello CG guys, if there's still any on this forum. I know @Redcap375 still is :) ) and here on the forums, where the best advice ever will always be "try everything". I really liked them, almost as much as cruisers, but then rework came, and they are essentially dead to me since. Though I compensate it by playing CV instead I guess (although they are almost all broken, and I can understand that true "dd mains" just left) - how do you see the game's future & your place in it? I have at moments, I'm gonna say the first two years certainly, played this game a lot. As in almost every evening, sometimes hours on end. Too much anger and disappointment in WG has changed that quite a lot, with CV rework (and making me quit dds - and I wasn't a fan of the "let's just put a radar on almost every line" either), some fiasco's like Puerto Rico, their general hypocrisy (as in "hey we are here for you, we are a community friendly game developer", but then they evade hard questions (yes @MrConway I'm talking, among other things, about me now having pinged you a dozen or so times to show us the numbers how the average flooding damage would go up (despite/thanks to) the flooding rework) or hide behind numbers when we all know certain things (cvs, smolensk, venezia, benham, belfast, etc etc) are broken beyond belief, etc.) and of course the constant devolution of this game's play (the almost total lack of "hard-fought, close" games), the game allowing for faster and faster access to high tier (see a recent vid from Flambass, put it on speed 1.5 though), etc. So I see my future in it as bleak. This isn't "a thinking man's game", as in tactical or slow (in fact, the vast majority of games are over (as in "decided", not timed out) in about 5 to 8 minutes). Most people just want to ClickButtonToMakeBoom and WG has refused forever to at least in high tiers prevent too much of that (i.e. by making the economy MUCH MUCH harder, as they did (and still do?) in WoT. Especially the introduction of submarines might be the end point for me (I know @El2aZeR has very similar thoughts), unless they change them radically. --- All in all, I hope that this just doesn't seem a rant. I've had many games with pleasure, and excitement through the years. I've come to know a good number of fine people of this mostly just as fine community, and I genuinely even believe that there are some people at WoWs internally who disagree with a lot of the gamechanges as well, but don't have any say in it. But at the moment (and that's been going on for more than a year) I must admit I see the game's future (& mine in it) as very bleak indeed. So, this was my "story & feelings", how about yours? Some ground rules - This isn't the place to go into real discussions, let alone into pure ranting. Sure, you can answer f.e. on my remark about "'german mid tier cruisers unsuited for new players" as having a totally different feeling, no problem, but please keep especially discussions related to CV & subs & the like to their official /dev/null specialized threads. - You don't have to adhere to the exact questions I posed. You can leave some, you can add some if you want so. Feel free to share what you want.- 27 replies

Not daft at all, Wyoming is a fine ship, especially since t4 got protected mm, and she can see max +1. Quite a formidable broadside at that tier, although I'm gonna guess the hosho spam hasn't been nice to her. You're welcome ;) I wish you much bettership, and I hope for you that both (or at least one of them) pve and ops get a "rework" (though be careful when weegee gets to rework things...), and you'll find your entertainment there once again. I never bothered with pve unless I just wanted to quickly check smt (or cause I went full pink), and I didn't really care for ops either - though you are far from the only one who got really hurt by wg messing with the operations that much. -

Been playing the game for close to four years, vid is even a few months older than that and has 65 frigging million views and that's the first time I ever saw it :D It's a good one though -
When my distrohopping ended, I ended up where I began, with ubuntu :D It's not as hard core as the arch boys wanna make you believe, but whatever, I like it mostly and got used to the debian way of cli commands. I always used xfce (so xubuntu), until with the recent big 20.04, I wanted to give KDE/plasma a try. But while it is way more modern than xfce, I ended up disliking it, despite finding it quite nice (graphic wise). [edit: also, it isn't as resource heavy anymore as you think. It used to be, back in the day, but these days it's not that bad anymore. Still not comparable to xfce/xfwm of course.] I remember a manjaro ride (xfce too) as well +-2 years ago, I am not the biggest fan. In your case, if you wanna go with a coinstall, I'd say go xubuntu. Don't forget that Steam's proton support, while (afaik) mostly working on every variant including gentoo and the like, is primarily (and to an extent exclusively) aimed at debian/ubuntu, so that's something to consider too. Pop!OS, what I'm using now, is essentially an enhanced buntu fork but comes only with gnome3. But if you're feeling adventurous, you can give it a try as well. I must admit that my hate towards gnome3 turned around quite quickly, it's of course been optimized heavily the last few years. In case you use discord, my handle is "Saiyko#7586".

But why not just install wows directly through lutris, instead of desperately wanting to install wgc through lutris and then wows through wgc? Did you at least give this a shot? --- Or am I misunderstanding you, and it's not "wgc" that's giving you a black useless rectangle, but a "real" wows install? Also, I have, as so many ppl, distrohopped quite a lot, and what you are describing is one of the many reasons I've stopped opensuse, although I quite liked it and it was the one I hoped would be my endstage. I should have given it a go with the non-rolling release (Leap?), but eh. At the moment I've somewhat reluctantly (cause I never liked gnome 3) followed the hypetrain to pop!OS, and I must admit it's very good.

I'm on the WeeGee-clears-every-world-I-say-ingame-through-the-filter list. I know what you mean. It's an instant one-month chatban word, cause God forbid telling idiots that they're idiots and ruining our game, cause that would hurt their feelings and "ruin their game"... -
This might have been because of not having applied those "patches" I refferred too. If you were to go that way: - download the zip at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sCT_Gq6j9F0b03AzUdrJoR9yktQMda0K/view - find your WoWs folder. Should be smt like [steam]/Steamapps/common/WoWs - the files you want to change are in its "bin" subfolder, or in one of its subfolders to be more exact, which will have the "name" of a number - go there and sort on name so the highest number is on top, mine at the moment looks like this - - so if I had just updated, I now had to go into the "2591463" folder. - copy paste the entirety of the zip file above into that "highest number"-folder, it will ask you to overwrite certain things, that's normal, approve it - DELETE the bin64\steamapi64.dll file in that folder, or, if for some reason you are using 32 bit (is that still possible?) you delete bin32\steamapi.dll ----- At this point, I would already try launching the game. We all know the wonders of weegee optimization, so these "tricks" tend to not always work the same, depending on the update. ---- - if that's not enough, copy the content from the bin64 folder in the above zip file into the "clientrunner" as well (see my picture, it's also in the bin main folder) - try the game again - still doesn't work, also delete the steamapi64.dll from the clientrunner folder. Now it should work :P It looks more complicated than it is in reality, especially once you've done it once or twice. Also, be aware that steam already updates the game on wednesday (the day NA gets its update), and will overwrite anything it sees wrong, so it will restore all those files you changed & deleted back. So at that point, you need to do the procedure described above for both the highest number folder and the second highest folder (or not, cause that second highest one will only be used on that one particular monthly wednesday of the update) P.S. inb4 someone comes here to mock "haha the wonders of linux gaming", windows users have to do (mostly) the same sh1te to integrate their already existing account into steam. Cause, as I said, weegees wonderful optimization and their idolatry of their WargamingGoreCore.exe.

I haven't used the "force wgc through wine" in ages, and only when I was forced to cause I was (through AAO) participating in the test program, which was a separate client only accessible through the "Wargaming Gore Core". I remember such nightmares all too well. I have since (no more testing/AAO) dropped it for steam, which works perfectly fine with a little workaround (in essence replacing a few files & removing the steamapi.dll, which you have to do each month though with the updates). Another option for you though, could be "lutris", installed for you through sudo zypper in lutris which would give you two options: - install the version you want from https://lutris.net/games/world-of-warships/ (normally that would be the EU dxvk one) - if you click "install" it in essence will just pass a script to the lutris program - open the wgc.exe in lutris itself. Big chance it will figure out itself what it needs to do, if not, there's an advanced properties section which you can study for the next month ;-) I'm sorry if the only reply you were really looking for was a "direct wgc through wine" option, I had no intent to "bring you to the sideway force" or offend you, but at this point you'd have to pay me some serious doubloons to make me use wine & wgc directly again :)

This isn't "spotting" me & @El2aZeR, this is getting us caught redhanded in our little "ez boat-life club" :D Although I wasn't driving enty purely for greifing people, as weegee intended it, but for some credits mission, and El2a, well he just thinks secondaries are the kind of thing this thinking man's game defines. A genuine tool for the intellectual to unleash his mental capacities unto, leaving a sense of fulfillment that borders on the spiritual. Also, almost every game yesterday was horrible. Mostly wins, but the moment you start winning they refuse to fight back and just run or whatever to cry all together in their little bordercorner. (edit: also, you wanna check your plane management. You are losing waaaay too much of them, though it's amazing how much your team sucked compared to you if you compare XP. I do remember that game though, wasn't that were a freddy & sinop & bismarck were all running away to the northeast corner of the map?) -
Game lacks anti-snowball mechanics.
Prospect_b replied to anonym_PYC0RAuRIwe4's topic in General Discussion
The problem is weegee was incompetent enough: - to create an economic system that doesn't punish consistent bad players - made that system even worse to make sure those same consistent bad players can easily and quickly reach any high tier vessel - to not care the slightest about decent-to-very-good players who have left more and more, and who were often the reason at least a minimum of games weren't a total roflstomp Also, OP, don't waste your time and energy with proposals (be it good or bad) regarding quality of play. Weegee doesn't give a dying duck unless there's money to be made and will just ignore it.- 77 replies

Yes, I'm sorry. I've never played a CV in my life, I'm just spewing nonsense for the fun of it... I'm also guessing that's why, with the introduction of CVs into CBs, clans have really seen the value of bringing their BBs, cause they are such godlike anti-air monsters.

I did. Multiple times.

+- three minutes of: Ending with: I guess WG doesn't want me back, must have been one time too much of asking @MrConway about those increased flooding damages we'd see after the flooding nerf. -
Comrade, have we told you about new glorious AP rockets - where the tier ten can do 30k alpha per strike?
-
Yea. Leave it to weegee to think that a yamato fighting tier sevens is a wonderful idea. Not to mention the "weakness" it was supposed to have to compensate that (weak AA) is of absolutely no importance anymore (if it ever was). In fact, with their fighter they make a possible worse target than a Des moines or smt like that. All perfectly normal.
-
Ah, to be young and hopeful again. Good times.
-
Not saying Ohio is a bad ship (don't know, don't have it), but Georgia is broken at tier 9.
-
I find it bizar you mention the GK here. She will be the weakest t10 for me for a long time for a lot of reasons, and the main one is that the special armour means nothing whatsoever if it's the only ship where you are absolutely guaranteed to get 20K+ salvo's on. (second reason being the gun layout, which forces you to take said damage the moment you want to fire more than your front guns)
