While it's been a while, I remember all their guns - especially Lion- as being extremely trollish. Soyuz guns at least became consistent closer range (I remember a Lion game where all shells just went everywhere at 6km or so) and she has her idiot armour going for her. Maybe I'll reconsider if I take one of these lines as next regrind. Also, at the moment tier nine bbs shouldn't complain too much, given the broken tier nine matchmaking.

Would you say Freddy is much better in the current meta? I'd say the triplet freddy-lion-soyuz are all equally valid candidates for the worst t9 title (depending on one's preferences of course)

I just regrinded the russian BBs. Soyuz will never be to my liking cause the trollish guns, but you can make them work at short to medium range (less than 12km, preferably closer) She can work perfectly as an enabler. You rush towards some position, that will create an angle comparative to where your bbs usually go. You have broken armour, so it will take ages to dislodge you. It is in essence of course also a terrible weakness of the ship: cause almost everyone these days is a mongrel, most bbs will not take advantage of the crossfire you enable, and just follow you like the sheep they are, or just run away alltogether, etc etc. That's why in the end I freexpd about half of the remaining grind.

To make it clear, I am not German, nor a Wehraboo. I have had an interest for history all my life though, and I get somewhat annoyed by the namegiving of (possible/future) German premiums. Odin and Ägir are names from Norse mythology, and would afaik never be a source for the names of German ships. If I were to speculate, this reeks of lazy "history channel like" history, as in "10 reasons why Nazi's were fascinated with the Viking legends, click here". It might do for an Indiana Jones movie, but that's it. The Norse/old Germanic fascination was merely an SS thing (and mainly Himmler), not really Hitlers, let alone the rest of the German army/navy. I don't follow the German forums, but I hope at least there there has been some protest against this? I understand that namegiving for this period might be sensitive, but getting into the hobby territories of the leader of the SS and the holocaust executive, might be less innocent than it seems at first sight, especially if that's the only reason to go there in search of names? There must be some admirals/politicians who are both neutral enough for WG's SJW worries and historically significant enough to have been at least a plausible namegiver for a KM ship. Cause the current names aren't.

Yea. While all the overwhelming anti-DD bullshite that has been introduced has made a lot of people (including me) stop playing DDs, in general I see most DDs dying out of mere stupidity. A shima picking a fight with a kitakaze, a fletcher smoking up in front of an alaska, etc etc. For the other CV players out there, what would you say the amount of DDs is that don't turn off their AA? I'd say 90-95% -

Well yes, don't you know? With the flooding "nerf-that-is-in-fact-a-buff" from last year, the flooding damage has gone so much over the roof that @MrConway is ashamed to share the overpowered new damages with us, even with me asking a small dozen times. They'd better hurry with that auxiliary CV line, so we can have radarplanes. -
Well, let's do the checklist - does she form a threat to the kreml? no - does she form a threat to smolaidsk? yes - is she a competitor with any new line? no Where henri ticks three boxes which guarantees instantaneous hard nerf, DM only hits one, so probably not.

While until a while ago I might also have said something slightly mocking, there is a kernel of truth in the "fires are insane" title. This game, especially at high tier, has devolved to the extreme into a "spam HE from max distance" idiotfest. And that's without mentioning things like smolaidsk or CVs. And now we have a new shipline, and what do you think its one redeeming feature is? Yea... It is getting tedious to the extreme, and does nothing but remove skill requirement patch after patch. Cause at the moment there is less RNG in getting dmg by HE and setting fires than having a decent salvo with ap, let alone cits, by trying to make a play and catching one of the buggers full broadside. Especially with WG's love for giving ships more and more retardproof armour.

I've just met @Infiriel in his Kreml when playing my second game in my retrained-for-full-blown-cancer smolensk. Witherer in 7 minutes ftw. He had very bad luck with 2 of the most braindead dds ever, which was good, cause their shima outretarded my special ed asashio. He also had some GK hugging a rock in the middle of nowhere. Good thing we cater to these people. -
You always have the same counterplay as against carriers... Pray they're retarded.

Well yea. So you wait at the edge of the cap till the enemy DD gets in, press radar, kill enemy DD while losing half of your health. Now you can't go stealth or smoke fast enough, so red BB blaps you. End result: 2 dds less in the game. In weegee parlance we call that: a problem well solved.

You'll have even more fun with the coming EU DDs. Premium orkan will have around kagero stealth but with 7.5km radar. Cause the game surely needed more anti DD ships, right?

lol that's very similar to me tbh. I had shite numbers till a few k games (I'd say also around 3k) in, and then steadily started to get better. My main gripe will be my solo numbers, cause I dislike solo play too much to improve them much/fast. I'm impressed that you still find the will to play DDs. As I said to @Ze_Reckless in another post, I know that they are still extremely game deciding, as you too prove, but I just can't bring myself to it. There's a moment where a "challenging" gamestyle just becomes tedious and nerf recking, where not paying attention for a second might be game over, and that moment for me was the cv rework. BS mechanisms as the italian cruisers that can just about oneshot you I won't even discuss. So if I want to go for the game deciding class, I'll just CV, although there's still a lot of room left to improve. Also, WG said that regarding the playerbase's feelings towards carriers, they do at least pay attention to players going full alt-F4 after being struck by a carrier, so I have to be a good citizen and do my duty helping in that department.

Excellent post, one tiny thing cause somewhere else you said to be an aspiring CV main :D Smolensk AA is extremely overhyped. You shouldn't be too afraid of it (of course don't go flying next to on in his smoke just for funz) Anyway, your post summarizes exactly why I don't play DDs anymore, which I hate tbh cause I used to love that class. But it is just an exercise in frustration, while other classes seem to get the easy life presented on a silver plate. Not to mention the frustration when there is too much disparity in the rest of your team (enemy cv keeps hunting you and the other dds, yours is trying to strike a mino; red radars are constantly in position while your moskva has reversed to the border, etc etc.)

In fact I do, it's the only thing WoT does right. People shouldn't be able to spam tier ten all day. I'd say a very very good game with premium should about break even, the rest should be a credit loss. It would also solve the matchmaking, cause people would go midtier again for some of their premium ships to get credits. Wows created its own problem here, which it now is trying to "solve" with the naval centre.

And that's why we desperately need economic changes. If a gearing really wants to throw his ship away at the start of the game while doing 2k damage, just present him with a bill for half a million credits. After a while they can go back to their farragut or sims and actually learn to play the class to make some credits. But nah, can't punish braindead in this game in any way - they pay the bills after all.
