PSA: World of Warships showmatch at The Grand Finals
Meneleus replied to MrConway's topic in General Discussion
I think Strangers123 will make an excellent commadore. I guess Flamu is having a break from the game atm. Cheers, M -
That game looks pretty interesting. A good old-fashioned wargame with counters CHeers, M

What can I say?

I know what you mean. Problem is they did not improve the 203mm option at all, though they later increased the range of both calibres by 500m I believe. They simply destroyed the 155mm route to the detriment of the ship as a whole. I'd have much preferred it if they had for example toned the 155mm setup down a bit and made the 203mm choice a bit more attractive. Ah well... On to the next nerfhammer drama I suppose ;) Cheers, M
-
Impressive, though I have no doubt someone can match your result with the Karlsruhe. I think this does not demonstrate the stength of the ship per se, but rather your skill with it. Cheers, M
-
Nah, sold the Kirov when I unlocked the Budyonny. It was an entertaining ship, yet I prefer the rapid-firing and nimble Murmansk. Cheers, M

I don't think this is a good thing though. The Mogami used to be pretty unique as it basically offered options for two different playstyles. I think stripping away the liberty to make interesting choices is not a good thing at all. Regarding the viability of the Mogami I certainly agree that it can be made to work. However, I would agree that just about all ships in the game can be made to work, even if I have troubledoing just that. Compared to other cruisers at tier 8 I feel it is not a strong and truly competative ship. Cheers, M

Bacause infantilizing them has worked so well in the past... ColonelPete posted this in another thread: These statistics tell us that gunnery is the main source of damage in this game, which is only logical. There are at least 20 ships with guns in every game, most of whom have their guns as primary armament. Cheers, M

Epic moment The times something this extreme has happened to me I can count on the fingers of one hand. Speaking of which, the chat seems familiar. Has this screenshot been posted before or have I even participated in this particular match? Might be another game it reminds me of though... Cheers, M

I understand the frustration of the OP, though I do think everything should be viewed in perspective. Everyone who plays battleships and cruisers at tier 8+ on a regular basis has had games confronting as many as many as three Shimakazes besides other assorted destroyers, teamed up if you are really unlucky. There will be torpedoes everywhere. With this scenario in mind I cannot help but smile at people who disdainfully remark to use the A and D keys. Good luck with a 45+ torpedo spread coming at you at breakneck speed. I do not think these games are very entertaining, though I guess Shimakaze players could beg to differ. Most games however do not feature a fleet of destroyers, about three seems to be the most common, not all of them being Japanese either. This can certainly be managed, especially when carriers are present (carrier numbers seem to be on the rise too). Also consider the flip side. Many games feature a large number of battleships, the bane of cruisers. Getting peppered by shells that can strip your vessel of all hit points in one salvo can gets old as well. To add insult to injury those cruisers are not immune to torpedoes either. Cheers, M

I would not mind seeing more pre-dreadnought ships introduced in the game, even though these ships would be limited to tiers 2 and 3. There are some historical candidates that spark interest, such as the opponent of the Mikasa, the pre-dreadnought Borodino. WG made an interesting video about this vessel too. Another candidate is the Schleswig-Holstein, a pre-dreadnought that was retained in the post-WW1 in the German navy and modernized to some extent during the interbellum. It fought in the battle of Jutland in 1916 and fired the first shots of WW2 at Danzig when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. Cheers, M

Nice speech. Unfortunately you seem to confuse coordinated team effort resulting in concentration of force and teamplay with lemming trains, where players conglomerate motivated by a sense of safety in numbers. With lemming trains there is no coordination, no combined movement and no concentrated fire. It is a mob, not a taskforce or squadron. It generally does not react well if at all when being outcapped and outmaneouvred. So no, I see no reason to bury the term on the bottom of the ocean. I consider it a valid term, even though it might be misapplied on occasion. Cheers, M
-
Nah, it has been terrible lately, having lost aquite a few games due to my teammates being particularly inept. Their lacklustre positioning and poor sense of teamplay beggars the imagination. I consistently find myself disappointed for trusting my fellows to assist me. They almost never do. Cheers, M

RU April fools event gives free XP, EU/NA doesn't?
Meneleus replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
You are incorrect, they are added to the earnings generated by the game results in the postgame screen. I reckon the daily mission he finished netted him the 500 free experience points. Cheers, M -
Thanks Wargaming! For the new Arpeggio details :-)
Meneleus replied to Varian_Dorn's topic in General Discussion
It is nice to see that the Arpeggio features keep getting polished. Did we have an opportunity to be awarded Kirishima? If so I must have missed it... Cheers, M -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Meneleus replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
I swear, that carrier on your team had it in for me! Cheers, M -
The current port music is horrid, it is really getting on my nerves... At least put in an option to turn it off specifically please. Cheers, M

I think the Kirov is a decent ship, very quid pro quo though. You get excellent range, and three triple turrets with very nice guns. The AA o the Kirov is nice too due to the decent dps at 5km, though it is overtaken by the Murmansk at 3.5km. The torpedoes are nothing special, but useful on occasion. On the other hand, she turns like a truck with her rediculous turning circle and rudder shift. Armour seems to be poor and the citadel vulnerable. When closing in you need an extreme angle to prevent yourself from melting away. Still, I charged a Kongo today at 11km and managed to sink her with torpedoes, so apparently she can be made to work... Cheers, M
-
True, I forgot I use Steering Gears Modification 2 which shaves off 20% of your rudder shift time, bringing the advantage down to slightly less then a second when the Yorck is equipped in kind, a lot less impressive. I can't remember if the turret traverse speed of the Yorck is fast enough to enable you to fire when turning hard. It would depend on the proximity, speed and course of the target. Judging from the Cleveland, which has a slightly better traverse, I guess it should not be too much of a problem, unlike the Myoko. Cheers, M
-
Well... I don't want to be a partypooper but... what exactly are you trying to convey? You seem to be contradicting yourself. Cheers, M
-
I think the Myoko is the better ship. Faster, more agile, excellent HE shells, AP shells are decent. Concealment is also slightly better and she has significantly more hit points. It suffers from the usual IJN citadel problems though and, while better then I initially thought, you will have to somewhat expose yourself to use all your guns. Worst trait of the Myoko is the turret traverse, it is pretty bad forcing you to anticipate your future actions much like you would in a battleship. The Yorck has great AP shells if it was not for the terrible shell trajectory and the associated long travel time, meaning you will have to rely on your suboptimal HE shells at long ranges and switch to AP at about 10km. I think this is a pity, your maximum range is excellent in this ship. The torpedoes are nice and the firing arcs much better when compared to the Myoko. With a range of 6km though you will not be using them that often. Finally your Hydro Acoustic Search is of the superior German variety, though this means forgoing Defensive AA Fire and relying on your firghter for protection. I feel that the number of carriers in games the Yorck plays in is on the rise, so this is a double-edged sword. Cheers, M

Basic Firing Training, Expert Marksman and Advanced Firing Training all work with the Bogatyr and the Svietlana. Don't worry about the Svietlana, it is a fine ship even with the vulnerable engine she has. She scales very well with the old light cruiser skill triad. Cheers, M
-
That is unfortunate. Thank you for the effort of getting folks together though, eagerly awaiting the day we will have another go! Cheers, M

Dasha Perova as RU captain (random thought)
