Depressing to see that the Aimbot is back (Dec 5th)
Meneleus replied to NinjaSquirrel's topic in General Discussion
I beg your pardon? Are you actually suggesting what I think you are suggesting? -
Wyoming is causing me to lose the will to live
Meneleus replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in Battleships
Well, if I am perfectly honest I am not a big fan of the Wyoming. Yes, it has twelve 305mm guns, which is a lot, but they are short ranged and very inaccurate. Add to this the lack of speed and the effect that the enemy spots you 2km out of your effective range and you have the reasons why I do not like her that much. It might sound like heresy, but I like the Myogi better. I think the skills you need most to make the ship work is being able to stay alive (by using terrain, angling, reading your opponents and managing your resources) and your ability to plan your movements and anticipate events (since your slow speed does not allow you to get out of a bad situation). I feel the best way to play this ship is to close in and brawl with it whenever realistic and possible, negating your range disadvantage and making the dispersion of your main battery somewhat more manageable, allowing your numerous guns to do work due to sheer volume of fire. I hope this helps a bit. Cheers, M -

Depressing to see that the Aimbot is back (Dec 5th)

Well, the clutter is rather important to me because it affects a person's integrity, and I consider integrity to be of the most valuable qualities a person has. I am a firm adherent to the principle that one is innocent unless proven guilty. Hence my reaction is mostly directed towards the clutter, since I find aim-assist itself onlypassingly interesting. Sorry if I came across as perchance a bit too harsh. As to the existence of third party aim-assist software my position is quite simple. Either everyone should have it or no-one should have it. If such a feature would be implemented in this game it would be at the expense of the entertainment I derive from it, and I would move on to something else. Using such a mechanic in this particular game strikes me as an inane waste of time and a form of self-deception, since your accomplishments and sense of satisfaction become a lie. As for the use of this cheat, let's call it that, I have seen several Youtube videos following a couple of posts on this forum about it. What I saw was not nearly as impressive as some of the streams and videos I have seen. This, combined with some comments of other people who think aim-assist is overrated and my own estimation about how useful it would be is what my opinion is based on. I am not under the impression lately that anything one of my opponents has done was only possible due to the use of this cheat. As to wether it exists at this moment I have no idea. It would not surprise me if it did and people are using it as we speak. Cheers, M -

Depressing to see that the Aimbot is back (Dec 5th)

Considering aiming I'd say it is an advantage up to a certain degree. At long ranges it does not take course changes into account and at short ranges aiming is relatively easy and an aide is not needed. I think an aim-assist might even be a disadvantage too if one becomes reliant on it. Being able to take probable course changes into account plays a role as well. Regarding being able to read headings, why yes, a continually updated feed of information leaves nothing to the imagination, yet the same can be done with visual observation and the minimap, the former is just easier. Does an aim assist an advantage? I think it does in the end though I am unconvinced it is as big an advantage as some people make it out to be. I think saying something like this is more indicative of the person saying it then the person being referred to. It seems such a casual remark, yet it only serves to tarnish another individual's personal integrity and carries no constructive value. Call me old-fashioned, call be naive, I just do not think such a thing is appropriate. Cheers, M -

Though I share the sentiment that aim-assist programs should be prevented from working I cannot help but be amazed by the blatant conspiratorial accusation levelled here. Such an ad hominem is a dealbreaker and has no place in civilised conversation. Please do think before posting. Cheers, M -
a cruiser has been able to disappear within 3 to 4 kilometers of me
Meneleus replied to AdmiralFirefox's topic in Newcomers' Section
Entirely possible if you are enshrouded by smoke but the cruiser has a decent fire resolution prior to firing blind. Smoke does not equal immunity, it merely obscures you from vision. At close ranges it is (relatively) easy to hit you by saturating your location with fire. Cheers, M -
Spotted the "deal" yesterday. Marketing really outdid themselves at €50 I have to say, a price tag that harsh surprised even me. I guess patience is a virtue, continuing the wait for unbundled ships... Cheers, M

It has been a long time since I played her. As she is a battlecruiser I'd recommend playing her as such. Keep pace with your cruisers and provide cover for them, targeting enemy cruisers when able. Speed is your great strength. It allows you to redeploy effectively as circumstances dictate and to disengage when faced with a superior foe. When encountering enemy battleships do not engage them head on, you do not have the firepower and armour to do so, fight a running battle. The Myogi is a sultry seductress. Lead the enemy on with the promise of an easy kill, taking advantage of sailing ahead of the foe and letting your back turrets do work. Cheers, M

The paint scheme looks pretty funky, certainly better then the Fuijin imho. I wonder what the concealment, speed and torpedo armament are like. From what I see I count four small calibre, probably slow-turning guns and three double launchers. All in all similar to the Minekaze. It would need something to really set it apart from her sister ships. Cheers, M
-
I prefer the fast torpedoes for sure. Given the twin quintuple torpedo launchers raw damage is not an issue. Besides, given the (in)frequency I use the torpedoes they are not worth spending experience points and credits on. Cheers, M
-
Minekaze, no contest save for perhaps the Isokaze and Mutsuki. It is the ideal ship to lay back, appraise the situation, pick the target, gently slide into range and fire your torpedoes, fading away when you have done so. My best games are those where I have never been detected for the entire duration. No stress, just the soothing knowledge you are safe due to your concealment and speed... Gunboats are no problem. I just don't fight them. The Minekaze is stealthy and fast enough to detect them early and slide away like a ghost. If the gunboat, alerted due to Situation Awareness, is intent on rooting you out, lure him close to your friendly cruisers. They love killing the damn things. Cheers, M

Depressing to see that the Aimbot is back (Dec 5th)
Meneleus replied to NinjaSquirrel's topic in General Discussion
I think the hype people produce around these aim-assist mods (or cheats if you prefer) blows it out of proportion. Of course I have read the posts and had my doubts every now and then. Until you get better at the game that is and discover you don't need aim-assist of any kind to citadel people at 20km or more. You just need a bit of luck, low dispersion and a compliant (or rather complacent) opponent. And yes, sometimes that complacent opponent was me. The only things that make me raise an eyebrow are the Clevelands who seem suspiciously close on the mark every time at ranges of over 15km. All in all this is nothing a bit of manoeuvring or angling can't fix. It is fine if you share some concern regarding this phenomenon. It does not help when you turn the existence of aim-assists into something they are not, like a game-breaking boogeyman. Cheers, M -
The AA armament is... underwhelming. If you take AA guns M2 I think it is important to take the associated captain skills with it for a total of +40% range and +10% efficiency. Even then it is an attempt to mitigate a weakness. I prefer to play the ship to it's strengths, and in my view that meant buffing the impressive 16" main guns. Cheers, M
-
You did eat some juicy penetrations at the start... That torpedo dodge though... epic.
-
Wokring my way to the Amagi at the moment while enjoying the Nagato. It is a fine vessel, those 16" guns pack a punch! A lot of hit points, but a bit vulnerable it seems regarding the armour department. I am using the following upgrades: Main Battery M1 Gun Fire Control System M1 Damage Control System M1 Steering Gears M2 I think most of these speak for themselves. Gun Fire Control System M1 could be swapped for AA Guns M2 to spiff up that rather weak AA armament, possibly in combination with the appropriate captain talents as a viable alternative I think. Steering Gears M2 works very well on a Nagato, so well in fact that I'd prefer it to Damage Control System M2, especially if you run Damage Control Party II. It brings the rudder shift time down to 9,7 seconds, about on par with similar tier cruisers in stock configuration, which is pretty amazing for a battleship. I have read that Damage Control System M2 stacks with the captain skill High Alert. I ran that combination while playing the New Mexico and, while I never timed it, this seemed to be the case. Cheers, M

Well, it seems that shelves the Nelson-class as a T9 candidate, it seems like the Lion-class would be a better choice. Cheers, M

My thoughts on the problems facing carriers. I think it is clear that most people, those active on the forum anyways, think there are problems with carriers. Since there are regularchanges made to carriers, be it to carrier mechanics, matchmaking or rewards, there seems to be some truth to the matter. Let me make a few things clear. I am NOT a regular carrier player, having played only up to T6, because I do not like the currentmeta surrounding carriers and, well, I like shooting guns a lot. I desire carriers to be an integral and accepted part of the gamefor everyone to enjoy while using one and when fighting them. I have attempted to make the wall of text more manageable by using spoilers for different topics. Carriers are too powerful Thank you for taking your time to read all this. I hope people find the information useful. Feel free to comment of course. Cheers, M

It is not that people consider it a myth, it is just that people don't think it is something egregious as some people like to make it out to be. I do not know if this is applied to ranked matchmaking. I would hazard a guess it is not concerning it is split over divisions with minimal tier difference, and tier difference in MM is something that the mechanic specifically controls. Cheers, M
-
There certainly is more to it than gun calibre. That said the Nelson strikes me as a better ship then the Nagato. The armour of the Nelson has an even larger advantage over the Nagato then over the Izumo, the same goes for AA armament. The Nagato does not have the speed advantage the Izumo has. If it is the guns you consider worrisome at T9 then I reckon including an upgrade to the 16" MkII might solve that problem. It is not historical but I guess a minor deviation is acceptable to keep the game going. Of course you might argue to include the Lion-class instead if one is going to tread that path, which might be fine from a game perspective. Cheers, M

Poll: Are you for or against Arpeggio of Blue Steel -ARS NOVA- entering WOWS
Meneleus replied to Cydone's topic in General Discussion
So, if I understand you correctly, you are railing against an option to modify the graphics in the game, requiring a conscious choice to enable? You do understand that, if you do not enable this option, nothing will change right? So please understand that, as far as I can comprehend, you are either saying that the mere thought of other people dressing up the game in anime skins (which is already a thing) is unbeareble to you, which strikes me as ludicrous, or you think the existence of this option will change your personal game experience, which it does not. And no, I do not think that having a few artists cook up some eye-candy delays expected changes, updates and content of the game. Artists tend not to involve themselves with research, game balance and programming. Cheers, M -
New Event - Arpeggio of Blue Steel -ARS NOVA- invading World of Warships!
Meneleus replied to Kurbain's topic in General Discussion
Liking history and liking anime is not mutually exclusive you know ;) Cheers, M -
Reason I put the Nelson at T9 is the Izumo. I understand that some people claim the Izumo has no business being there, I can't attest to that since I have not played her. When I compare the two it seems the Izumo has a clear advantage in speed, the Nelson seems to have better armour and AA armament. At first glance at least the assumption seems reasonable enough. Personally I have a preference of using ships which actually existed, which undoubtedly colours my judgement. Cheers, M
