Usually, when a ship gets too close to an island, the island wins....

There is something unreal about WoWS graphics.. in places I been sunk in shallow water (you see the bottom close to the surface) .. and YET! My huge BB somehow disappears under the waves in its entirety... Also, there is something seriously wrong about graphics optimization, IMO. If I compare it WoT, which has a lot more terrain details to render and still manages to run mostly more smoothly and and more stable FPS than my WoWS where I have mostly turned down most of the graphics options.

What have you been accused of, in whatever class of ship, recently?
Karasu_Browarszky replied to Cambera_1's topic in General Discussion
Ah... didn't know that.. good to know, thanks. -
Hmm.. yes, though I doubt you will get many full 20 min matches. I am actually experimenting with this setup now. I don't really know yet, the problem is that range puts in range of radar and you never know if there is a sneaky cruiser behind any one of those islands. In open water you should see them first and out of radar range. But you still have their DD's but the absolute worst right now seems to be that the Shima gets focused and permaspotted by the enemy CV. If you manage to shake off those planes.. you could make another appoach but you end up losing time. Mind you, even a longer range won't help against the planes but it sometimes gives some extra margin to play with. Right now I can't compare what it would be like to have the 12 km range because I'd either need to respec my captain or get another one for shima.

Now, I was in my BB when a Haru on our team fired full torpedo salvo straight into my portside. I was promptly informed that I was a 'moron'. Unless that was a greeting in his language.... -

Hacks, the Asashio recently. Not today though, today I suck. -
A very good point. I've been aware of the spread problem (and benefited from it myself when running a BB). Given all these factors it really starts to look that the Type 95 without the TA would be the optimal (I really don't like having to use 8 km range torpedoes, too dicey for my taste) and would spare me the 2 pts as well. Thanks for giving me some food for thought, I would have to figure out how I could fit the Asashio into this equation as there I think the TA is needed and I really don't want to use a 19 pt captain on the Shima only as I haven't got that much use for her in the randoms.
-
Cheers! Based on that I'd say that the Type 95 without TA might be the smartest bet if I was just looking at how the Shima is going to perform. The longer range on the Type 93 allows you to dodge radar and other DD's better, but at the cost of earlier detection. Using the Type 93 with TA somewhat negates the disadvantage in terms of speed, but prolly not the detection, though the extra speed would give the target somewhat less than that 16 secs to start evasive action. Looking at your data.. roughly 4 seconds off making it about 12 seconds.
-
Well, I let it slip earlier that my captain is mostly on the Asashio.. so this is kind of something I have to take into consideration. I get a 16 km range on the Shima, but... the speed is bad and they get easily detected. Mind you, they spot even Asashio's torpedoes relatively easily. I think in most situations a 10 to 12 km range would be ideal (unless there is radar nearby...).

[eyecandy] torn flags aKa "we ain't got no tailor".... or scissors
Karasu_Browarszky replied to MrWastee's topic in General Discussion
A torn ensign or any other flag on a ship would be an indication of very low morale... ...but if this would battle damage occurring during the battle it would be a different thing altogether. -
Very close to my setup! I got SE instead of SI. ... and I use the 20 km torps...

New teased Pan Europian DD Friesland, tier IX

And Fokker was a Dutch aircraft manufacturer but many may think it was a German one as they had a factory in Germany and are perhaps best known for the legendary German WW1 fighter planes. -

WHAT Pan-European? -
I have TAE, but it might be better to spend those 3 pts on BFT or SI instead as it is only -10 % off the reload time. One consideration for me is that my Shima captain also takes the Asashio regularly, in fact more often tbh. RDF is something that feels a bit gimmicky at the start of the battle (I feel it is needed on the Asashio even then) but becomes a very potent tool in the latter stages of the battle when you pretty much can know that it is pointing to an enemy DD. I guess a lot will depend on if you plan to assign your captain to a premium DD. If you primarily focused on the Shima, you could play around with torpedo choices and leave out both TA and TAE giving you 5 points to spend on something else.

Shorten cap times Domination Random Battles
Karasu_Browarszky replied to LemonadeWarriorITA's topic in General Discussion
I grant you are right in saying that the game needs some extra reason for the fleets to engage and win. The credits are XP are kind of the only motivation otherwise as there is no tactical or strategic advantage in winning. When I said they were artificial, I meant they have no real tactical value apart from affecting the score if you manage to float for 60 seconds in a duck pond for which your team will be rewarded. I don't think that is really a valid way of determining the outcome. In operations they've done this a lot better by giving actual tactical objectives for the team to reach, IMO.- 18 replies

On most maps they don't have any tactical value as such.. well, except maybe for those cruisers that like to fire at their targets from behind islands...- 18 replies

Historical Accuracy vs. Complete Tech Trees
Karasu_Browarszky replied to Atankean's topic in General Discussion
The text on the news page seems to more accurate translation, the Russian news page has the exact same words as in the original video. By 'cream' they mean 'elite'. While I could understand that meaning not 'the best' but rather 'among the best' it will still require you to stretch your imagination a bit. Yes, they lost at Tsushima and badly at that. There were a number of factors at play, none of this were in Russians' favor, apart from maybe having a competent admiral in command who still got outplayed by Togo. That does not mean that they couldn't have built a good fleet, or even trained their men better, but given all the limitations they were having at the same time, I seriously doubt they could have achieved. Even more so during the post-WW2 economic era and it's realities. -
Well, I reckon I'll just head them off at the pass.

And it was one of the better ones, too! (I got some patch or something as a memento).
