Finally a much needed sub appreciation thread for all of us who cannot play the subs.

Back years ago, if they had a fire on the flight deck, they couldn't launch any planes. If someone last played back then, and now was to come back, they couldn't believe they were playing the same game any more.

Will the chat be of any help, I mean if they are part of the 'silent majority'?

Very commendable, but I cannot say that I could follow your example because then I'd be effectively barring myself from taking any part in any operations currently available. As for the suggestion, I'd support it. I only ever got to try operation Wolfpack on PTS and, while I can't boast with my own performance, nor with how WG has implemented submarine play (and this becomes apparent in this operation), it would be a welcome diversion and I'd occasionally be willing to give it a go.

No guarantees, though, as I was trying to say about anything to do with 'average'. No guarantees that you will get both good and bad teams, good or bad battles. Of course, it can and does happen, but it's always dependent on whatever MM throws you in. That's random, entirely random, same as what sort of divisions might be in the battle. It's also completely random who will be afk or who will have D/C or any other technical issue. The only constant least random thing you can rely on is your own performance, or your division if you are in one. It's a figure of speech... and not even actually mine, but something @Karkong_the_Impaler brought up.... Yeah... I think that 'git gud' is something that carried over from the WoT forum at some point. Correct me if I'm wrong but we didn't use to have such flippancy here on the WoWS forum in the good days... The bread has gone stale. (Another figure of speech there is actually no bread involved.)

Well, not exactly, what I meant is if you compare it to a roll of dice, MM rolls the dice for all the battles played by everyone, so the law of averages applies to all those rolls of dice, meaning battles, not just to the ones played by you, meaning any single player. Admittedly, though, each player would have their own 'quota' of battles, but I'm unsure whether the law of averages would actually apply to those.

Okay... but does the law of averages apply to your battles or all the battles that MM sets up?

Yeah.. just take a look at what sort of names you can see in some of the old old threads on this forum, and you'll instantly see how many regular posters/players, some of them very good players, are gone.... Also, there are some people on this forum, naturally I mention no names ^ ^ who claim that we who post here are the 'vocal minority' and there are lots and lots, maybe millions other players out there who are the 'silent majority'. Now, if the ratio is in that ballpark, every time someone here on the forum announces they are leaving, shouldn't there be something like 10k to 100k players of the silent majority who are also leaving?

On average? When we remember that the probability is the same, like with a coin toss, there's also no guarantee what the average will be like. As you say, the only constant you get every time is yourself, but even then you get some variation per ship choice and/or build.

So, the job of the MM is to try and match the ships, not the players. However, as MM is not matching the players, a random chance can easily favor either team over the other. In other words, MM is no guarantee of a 'fair fight'.

How many of us who hang out on the forum still actually make a serious attempt to play WoWS on anything like a regular basis? My battlecount has pretty much collapsed. I play something like 1 to 3 operations on a typical day. Over the weekends I run a few randoms or coop for the Naval Battle. Until about the time of the captain skill rework and the introduction of the subs, I played a lot more, around 10 battles or so daily, regularly collecting at least two daily crates, sometimes all three. Now I barely get just the first one, not always even that.

If I may ask for a clarification, was it the bots that reported you?
