Today's problem with WoWs, by Flambass
Karasu_Browarszky replied to ImTryingButYouDontHelp's topic in General Discussion
They could make that part of the captain training. What you are saying highlights one of the problems with tier progression and it has to do with two facts: 1) even the ships that form a line up don't necessarily have similar characteristics and 2) game play can be very different in low, mid and high tiers so each of them presents there own environment which the player will need to learn to play in anyway. Based on that the fast progression isn't IMO a huge problem, and also it is limited to the few who are willing to use the camos, signals etc. For the majority of the players, it is still grindy enough. -

Did you play that line exclusively or did not develop several up at the same time? -

We are getting new daily problems nowadays? Well.. this is really very subjective here, I still an enormous amount of battles to grind up a line. Can't actually say I think it's any easier nowadays, but I have maybe a little more of those bonus xp camos and flags to use than what I originally could use but... No. -

Why do I enjoy Bismarck more than Yamato?
Karasu_Browarszky replied to vaapad_master's topic in General Discussion
Agreed.. uhm.. as long as this isn't my Smolensk we are talking about. If I had one.. that is.. -
True. Sadly. True as well. But that isn't the only reason by far why it does not feel like it.

Perhaps WeeGee will soon make premium RNG packs available in a Premium Shop near you.

Almost as if they are encouraging us to Free XP certain ships... I used a lot of that with the Amagi and the Izumo. Can't remember what I thought about the Fuso, but the three I still like the best are Kongo, Nagato and Yamato. -

Oh but the range! It is so much fun to erase a cruiser on the other side of the map. -

Collecting.. collecting.. still collecting.. no chance of getting the Mikoyan yet... -
Personally, I don't see P2W as a huge problem, what I detest is the openly greedy 'monetization' in the game. When we couple this with the balance problems and technical issues, most notably the Desync which further makes the balance issues even worse for most players, it makes the game feel less than it should be.

What an amazingly dynamic trailer! What game is this??? I wanna play it right today! Seriously then, I correct myself. First, I spotted something interesting in that trailer, it implied that there would be actually something like destroyer squadrons charging the enemy battle line (it didn't show destroyers sitting on cap or behind rocks or in smoke, similarly it didn't show any other ships huddled next to magnetic rocks...). Another interesting thing dawned to me, if indeed, as the trailer makes it clear, there was originally a definite rock-paper-scissors approach chosen for this game, it is a curious thing that I actually liked the game enormously more in the open beta phase than what I do now, it might actually be more the later smörgåsbord chaos that I find hard to adjust my play style to. Aw crap. WeeGee, why did you have to go and ruin what was a much better game!

Secret fireproofing?

That seems like a good idea... sadly I think it may be a little too good an idea to see in the game...

This is good advice! Multitasking all that is a little difficult, most of it has to become second nature to make all of that work. Some of these are more basic measures than others. The mistake (in a BB in particular) that are make too often is pushing ahead too quickly and not disengaging quickly enough at the first sign of trouble.
-
If the enemy team is good enough, that is not far enough back *slight exaggeration*. Of course, it depends on how you plan to make use of your DD.
-
Yes, but how often do you see a DD that close to BB? It's a little different with those German BB's, but even then the problem is the DD has to be spotted by someone. If the DD is spotted, then it's a whole different ball game.
-
I'd still have to hit them.. This would rather be a job for the secondaries than the BB main guns. The secondaries are mostly ineffective though.
-
Yeah.. I know it is supposed to be a team game, but more often than not your team leaves you hang out to dry. Then it is down to what can do with your ship. And that's where I really don't like the game mechanics. Actually, I expect the cruisers to do be considerably more active against enemy DD's, and I expect our DD's to be on the lookout for enemy ships and their positions. That rarely happens though.
-
Well, like ColonePete says, it is most often down to smoke etc. When I'm in a BB it is also not that often (thankfully) I get sunk by torps these days, damaged, but not usually sunk unless I am low on HPs or do something.. amazingly stupid early on in the battle. TONS of countermeasures? I'd be really interested to know how I can use those. I didn't actually know that but that implies that it really is rock-scissors-paper kind of thing. Yes, they mostly need some kind of gimmick like an island or smoke to do it, same as HE spamming cruisers. In an open gun duel it is very unlikely, but it is more likely than if you try to do that against a cruiser in a DD. If a cruiser is harder for DD to outgun than a BB, something's wrong in my book.
-
Overall? The weakest DD (almost) can more likely sink the strongest BB than the weakest BB the strongest DD. Again, I'm not talking about statistical performance, but ship to ship combat. If we bring cruisers into this too, a cruiser will outgun a DD in the game, which is what I would expect, but what I found puzzling is that a BB cannot similarly outgun a DD. It's like WG is using some kind of rock-scissors-paper kind of gimmicky approach to balancing and I find that very hard to deal with.

For CV's? Air attack potential vs target's defensive potential? Theoretically, CV's should IMO be the easiest ship class to balance (though not a simple task even then...). What I meant above, is you can't balance the players, you have to balance the ships' capabilities.
