How to change language to russian (wgc)?

Damn , I must have missed that. No wonder though, I didn't exactly read every little line in that article... I just remembered how earlier you were restricted to about half a dozen European languages. Nice change! Thanks for pointing that out for me. I just hope the WGC would have similar options for WoT.. not that I play it much, and there aren't even native language crew voices in the game unless I'm missing something.

Why don't we have historical flags?

Can you kindly point out where I can see this? I haven't seen a single verbal statement from WG on the subject, at least not on this forum.

Why don't we have historical flags?

The discussion has brought to light many of the complications that surround historical flags. Not so much in my mind, because I take them as flags first and foremost. The good thing about this discussion is that it has, hopefully, raised people's awareness of history, good and bad. Ultimately, WG is the one who should and could tell us why we can't have those flags.

How to change language to russian (wgc)?

I found the easy way. At least it seems to work. You first go to your game files and the res folder. Open locale_config.xml file in Notepad (I use this usually for quick changes like fixed FPS rate), make the following change and hit save. The second line probably reads like this : <locale_id>en</locade_id> You need to change this 'en' to 'ru' and you should see this: Now you start the WGC, and before launching the game go to settings, and you should see the Russian flag as an option. Choose that, launch the game and at least the UI will look very Russian. Behold the beauty of Gangut right in front of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg!

Is there something odd about that? EDIT BTW, what is this?

Why don't we have historical flags?

From the historic point of view, the only things you can do is do the analysis, understand the reasons and causality in the context as you said, and assign the guilt where it belongs. There is the guilt under law, and moral guilt. The legal side of the question is somewhat clearer (though not always), the moral part of it is more hazy, because when it comes to that, any individual can really be judged in terms of the values of their own contemporary culture. That is hard for us to see from a point of view so removed in time, and often in terms of distance as well.

Why don't we have historical flags?

I looked that up and... it is actually very scary: ...Major Trapp, who proceeded to give a short speech. With choking voice and tears in his eyes, he visibly fought to control himself as he informed his men that they had received orders to perform a very unpleasant task. These orders were not to his liking either, but they came from above. A party member but a very humane one it seems, and that just makes it scarier because it means all of this can be only one step away from happening again, any time, anywhere. https://www.facinghistory.org/holocaust-and-human-behavior/chapter-9/reserve-police-battalion-101

Not being any sort of expert on this, but there is old rivalry between at least Japan and China that goes way way back. What I can gather their relationships has always been.. complex. At times the relations been very good. It is kind of paradoxical at times, especially if they put all the blame on General Matsui for what happened at Nanking... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iwane_Matsui I'm under the impression at least, that a lot depended on whether the commanding officers were pro-Nazi or not.

Why don't we have historical flags?

I could be wrong, but I think that was more about banditry than a planned purge.

Why don't we have historical flags?

Well, when you look at this from the point of view of the victims, it becomes understandable why certain flags and symbols feel problematic. However, most of the people directly affected by these atrocities, victims and perpetrators alike, are long gone, does it really serve the purpose to carry on the grudge from generation to generation? I don't mean you should forget the past, because those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Why don't we have historical flags?

What all three of them had in common was a similar kind of mentality. I think Germany was also the only one of them which was party to the Geneva Convention. IIRC the Germans were prepared to treat their Soviet PoW's according to the Geneva Convention but the Soviets were not prepared to respond in kind... Barrier Troops.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrier_troops

Why don't we have historical flags?

Yes, because the Japanese ideal required death before surrender, so they would see any PoW's as inferior because they were still alive.

Why don't we have historical flags?

Unbelievably bad at times. The militarist regime at the time was pretty brutal, even to the Japanese soldiers themselves. So you can guess what the outcome of all that brutality is in the context of a badly distorted idea of the Bushido. EDIT Though... I don't think the comparison to the SS is really accurate. AFAIK one of the problems with the Japanese was lack of discipline, whereas the SS was extremely disciplined.

Why don't we have historical flags?

There is no global collective experience to provide any point of reference. The one thing that is universal, though, is human suffering. Those are always a problem, don't think Japan is any different in that regard.

Why don't we have historical flags?

It is wrong IMO to bury class A war criminals at Yasukuni Shrine, especially if they didn't even fall in battle... if that's what you are referring to we are in complete agreement. Some elements do... but such elements exist in many other countries as well. It's wrong to think that the Japanese public would think so.

Why don't we have historical flags?

All of this should be looked at from the perspective of the victims. When people get killed for reasons they are innocent of, it is always a bad thing. People will always look at the past differently, because of their personal and collective experiences differ. In some sense, it is easier to accept war time casualties as inevitable, even though civilian casualties should be minimised (I don't personally approve the intentional bombing of civilian targets). AFAIK the Germans themselves have come to terms with the bombings, and the British have also contributed to projects such as the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The Japanese likewise, and they wish that atomic weapons were never again used for whatever reason. I've always seen historical flags in various books, films, and even most games I played. I've never seen any problem with this as long as it is clearly not intended as propaganda. As long as it is legal within the EU, the historical flags of all nations should be available for the players to use. Still, as a compromise, what you are a suggesting would be the best compromise, then everyone could choose which flag they want to see or not, whether on their own ship or someone else's.

Georgios Averof = Hellenic Navy in WOWS?

There could be more Dutch destroyers, true. Venice was the one that was 'all over the Mediterranean sea'. Curiously, now it's the Mediterranean sea that tries to be 'all over Venice'....

If WG adds any more torps to this game, the only BB I'm gonna wanna play after that is the Space Battleship Yamato...

Those national naval ensigns are already in the game.. you just have to switch them.

Georgios Averof = Hellenic Navy in WOWS?

As @Cambera_1 pointed out, the Pan-European tree affords the flexibility to include interesting and historical ships of the smaller naval powers in the game. The size of their real world navy isn't a crucial factor as some nations *cough cough* we have in the game have a high *cough* percentage of fictional paper ships, courtesy of Lesta Cafeteria's seemingly inexhaustible supply of napkins.
