Yes, that is understandable in a sense. I haven't mentioned the concept of 'fine line', but it's been there in the background in my thoughts. You are correct that these platforms set the rules, and technically, if you use their platforms you agree to bide by those rules. That helps to make the issue more clear cut. As for hate speech.. legally, IMO, you still have to show 'intent', and this is where 'hate speech' often fails becoming a form of censorship.

Some countries, even those within the EU, have a 'toxic' atmosphere when it comes to individual rights and freedoms, especially in case of ethnic and sexual minorities, or those at the bottom end of the social stratification. (Like references to 'human trash' when talking about the homeless...) Many EU countries also like to present a tolerant facade, the reality behind the facade can be markedly different from the polished image they like to put on show. Sometimes it feels we are a lot closer to the dark ages than the age of enlightenment.

Libel, slander, incitement to violence are legit concepts same as attacking people on the basis of their language, creed, race, politics, sexual orientation and so on, yes. 'Hate speech' is NOT a legit concept in my book, it's too vague, and often fails to define who the victims are. If there aren't victims, there is no legal basis to enforce anything and it becomes plain censorship in my book.

I think the most likely result will be the cancelling of the current CC program altogether. They will then proceed to restructure it in the form of 'Faithfull Fluffers' or something, with the new CC's being handpicked and trained by WG PR and marketing experts for maximum impact, and then unleashed on the unsuspecting market segment.

Yeah, if we consider WG's business model unethical, morally bancrupt and toxic, our first priority is to limit the damage to ourselves. Wish I had known what they are really like years ago, but at least from this point forward I won't be dancing to their tune any more (the WoWS players' song: I'm an idiot (I'm a total idiot), remember?)

'Cancel culture' seems to be something that is politically motivated. I'm not even sure if it is intended to serve the needs of the minorities, or if it is a sham, smoke and mirrors as they say. There's a simple rule for everyone to follow, do not use words that may cause offense, but the difficulty is knowing which words cause offense, because different people will have different reactions to them. Sure, you can go by dictionary definitions which may give you some idea... but usage may differ. As @LoveZeppelin points out, this is a community guideline issue, so it is up to WG to make that call.

Yeah, words are seldom meaningless, if they were, they wouldn't be needed. Some words are more neutral, others are charged with positive or negative connotations. One of the problems is, that the connotations are not equally shared, they are culturally dependent and vary from one culture to another, even when they are used in the same language, such as English, in this case. They impact people coming from different cultural backgrounds differently.

Not being an American, I'm not so allergic to racial slurs such as the N word. (though I've grown up in an almost equally racist country), but you could argue that speech charged with racial or otherwise discriminatory language is conducive to an environment that fosters discriminatory attitudes. Clearly such language should not be used in a public setting, except where it is used for contextual reasons (which it wasn't in this case).

Your evaluation is correct at least as far as American and European corporations are concerned, they go to great lengths to appear ethical, and employ huge PR and legal departments to ensure that their image is kept spotless in the eyes of the public. And... they do go for the quick bucks in terms of quarterly reports etc. Personally, I consider such companies morally and ethically bankcrupt because the role of the corporations is to serve their stakeholders and community. Russia, and Belarus, and the whole post-communist sphere is interesting, because it seems that they've been busy ready western business manuals and quite successfully bridged the gap between corrupt Western style capitalism with post-soviet cleptocratic practices. Where does that leave us? I'm tempted to walk away, but I want at least some return for what I've put into this game on a personal level. I'll stop giving any money to WG as long as the present situation persists. Crystal clear. I'm not dropping the game over those terms, though, I will judge the game on its own merits, and schedule my game time accordingly. Right now... I've been on a declining trajectory for a while, so I will see where that takes me.
