Crew skills (when are crew skills coming?)
Karasu_Browarszky replied to SaltyLord's topic in General Discussion
Aand.. it's an idea they keep coming back. Pay to win means big big profits for them. I hazard to guess much bigger than what they are getting with loot boxes. -
Well, depending on the captain skills, it is still a worthwhile tier 9 premium, but the question is really whether it's worth the pricetag when there are better ships around, including the tech tree Iowa. Since I don't have the Iowa, I may occasionally still take out my Missouri. Mind you, I have the slight advantage of having the original Missouri, not the new regular tier 9 version.

What you are saying... with a straight face, is it? "World of Warships is a multiplayer naval game, emphasis on game - which means that priorities are that it should be 1) fun, 2) engaging, 3) diverse..." Based on what you and some others have said, it's not a naval game, just something with.. ships. fun? engaging ? diverse ??? I beg to differ, especially now in 2021. So, what we actually have is... something much much less than what you are saying.
-
Now, if the devs wanted that.. I think we might be playing a better game currently... Curious, what do you think that sea battles are about if not exchanging long-range fire while carrying out tactical maneuvers? The range would have differed at different eras, depending on the technological level of the armament. We aren't talking about the age of sail here, even though some of the principles could still apply later on. Theoretically speaking, we might even get boarding parties... but the norm would be gunnery battles.
-
BTW, where did you suddenly take off last night. Kind of left me hanging without as much as a goodbye.
-
Feel free to set up a poll about which takes more skill, the Ocean or... any other of the million maps we got.
-
That's kind of funny, because in my version of the game the Ocean takes way more skill to play... ... which leads to the two basic problems with that map. 1. People don't see it regularly so they can never really learn to play the Ocean. 2. The ships are not balanced to allow them perform as expected on a real map such as the Ocean (read, no islands).
-
I honestly don't know whether to cry or to laugh.
-
You tell me. Some people have problems with the Ocean. I don't. Other than that I barely ever get to play it.... thanks WG...
-
"dynamic" does not mean "close up". So, the real issue some people have with the Ocean is not camping after all, but something else...
-
Uhm.. yes such changes might have the required effect. Anything that would address the balance issues, campiness, relative OPness of ships and classes in relation to each other would be a good solution. Uhm... at least the UK BB's can already manage something of this sort. I'm not overly fond of it. I'd rather take an option to call an off the map airstrike at those Island Summer Camps. I'm aware that we have time compression in this game, so we can't expect anything approaching full levels of realism. It's not something I'd like to see either, I could take slightly longer battles, though. What I fail to see is why we can't have the sort of realism that does not make the game harder to play. Improving the game balance in such a way that people wouldn't need crutches like the resort islands, would actually make playing the game easier, albeit winning the battle might become a little harder as a result.
-
Seems that might be a step in the right direction, if it gave us a realistic option to go for tactical choices... ... without the need for Island Resorts on the tour map...
-
Okay, still a bit gimmicky in my opinion, though. These sort of things should be handled on the level of balancing, as I feel disengaging and redeployment are legit tactical options and the game should not 'punish' a player for such moves.
-
That removes the protected firing, true. But what would be the purpose of such islands?
-
That is, IMHO, putting the horse before the cart. The islands are forcing people to adapt to their existance and use as protected firing positions. This leads to stale and camping gameplay AND to attempts to flank the islands. That, however, is just part of the problem. Only your DD's can try that flanking maneuver which will force them to do it without team support. No cruisers will be able to go that route, no BB's certainly, because they will get detected and focused on. Do that a couple of times and you will learn to 'adapt', and we witness this 'adapting' as camping.
-
Yes, because using islands as a cover gives you a protected firing position. Again, we are not talking about warfare on land here, but at sea. Bushwacking tactics have no place in a game of warships. Perfectly okay to have such type of gameplay, just not in this game. WG could make a squad based online arcade game, World of Bushwackers. And even I might give it a go if they did.

Picked up an old code on the Asia forum. Probably can't use here as I've used it before, but it worked on my alt account on Asia servers, so the chances are it might work here as well. THERISEOFCAP Gives one 'Bad advice collection' container for those that still haven't recruited the ablest of all captains.

Container Code: THERISEOFCAP

I think that error code means you've used it previously. In which case you probably have the collection unfinished or are lucky enough to have engaged the professional services of Cap.- 15 replies

No, I was asking why we have camping. I'm perfectly aware it is a problem that leads to boring battles... ... though, it is, of course, possible some people find stale battles fun and exciting and dynamic tactical engagements boring... I have no idea who you are referring to... How often do you see the Ocean? Practically never. I'm on record of not liking the islands, I also claim they cause camping. What's worse, in my view they not only cause camping but enable campers to get rewarded for camping, whereas in my book campers should always be punished if the game is to be understood to represent dynamic play. Again, ships are men- of- war, but they aren't men of war.
-
That, and the problem with the game balance. This is why I say the ships should be balanced for the Ocean.
-
I'm slightly busy here.. so... Cruisers and DD's are smaller than BBs. They should be harder to hit with the main guns. Obviously, a hit should be a hit. I see different things in my battles than you do, obviously. The islands work like trenches/bunkers. If you missed the analogy, can't help it. Again, we are talking about ships at sea. Not about soldiers in bushes. You missed that too. Nevermind that. Explain why camping is a problem - unless you think it's not a problem. That's the crux of the matter.
-
Now I am confused...

When do we get a garbage replacement for achievements?
Karasu_Browarszky replied to SaltyLord's topic in General Discussion
WG is way ahead of you. They have kindly provided us with the opportunity of purchasing our very own rewards either by using real money or mum's credit card, honestly.
