28th of Octomber. Another year that WG ignores the strugle of Grecce against AXIS.
Karasu_Browarszky replied to Anthoniusii's topic in General Discussion
Yes, technically that is correct. The Lexington Institute article made a point about the Italian defeat in Greece being the first time Axis was beaten which had a morale boosting effect in Britain. This might actually be significant in itself. -

Looks like the British had something to do with it... I think perhaps Italy joining the Axis side proved to be their undoing. But you were right about the Ethiopians beating the Italians prior to being defeated in Greece. The Battle of Adwa took place on March 1st, 1896. The Italian defeat was instrumental for securing Ethiopian independence. -

What do you think about what this article says? https://www.lexingtoninstitute.org/greece-has-a-long-history-of-defending-the-west/ I'm a 'victim' of old books myself, in a way, as I think the newest books I've read on the subject are from the 70s, or 80s at the latest. -

The return and economic nerf of Missouri.
Karasu_Browarszky replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
By way of protesting, our means are limited to a) raising a shitstorm in public, b) closing our wallets, or c) dropping the game (and forgo time/money we've invested in it). I'm more willing to make use of options a) and b) than c), at least as long as the game remains somewhat playable. In my opinion, at least as far as I'm concerned, the game is now borderline unplayable for me. I'm certainly not getting full value out of it as things stand. -

Well, we did shout a lot. If you remember WG had plans to make a bundle by using what I think was essentially a rigged lootbox system with the new Missouri (without the credit multiplier). Most of the attention was directed at that, and then the repeated attempts by WG to replace the original multiplier with a mission that returned... was it originally only 10% bonus they were offering, then 20%, and now 30%. Not that I wouldn't prefer to have the original baked in non-gimmicky multiplier myself. -

The best we can do is keep an eye on that special mission being there. What is a little trickier to keep an eye on is that the mission won't somehow 'bug out' while seemingly being active. Altogether, a not too well thought out change, IMO, unless it's actually a little too well thought out.... -

Well, Oxi Day seems to be a pretty big public holiday in Greece, comparable to Independence Day. Not specifically naval, per se, but doesn't WG usually mark important public holidays of various countries? -

Yeah. But that still leaves the tech tree EBR's which will be enough to create plenty of havoc. Same with subs. -

Karasu_Browarszky replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Seriously, though. The subs are an unseen threat. I know what they mean because I've experienced the introduction of the wheelies in WoT. They split the community right down the middle. Some loved them and kept playing, the rest of us...not so much. If we get premium subs in this game, as they currently are implemented, with the same features and the same game modes. It's the fifth compartment flooding as far as I'm considered, the mathematical certainty. -

I would not expect tanks to be widely useful in a country like Greece to begin with. I think we already more or less agree that the reasons behind the failure of Operation Barbarossa are more widely set than the delays and complications caused by the Balkan campaign. If we are looking at the significance of delays, then I think it's rather a case of every single delay having compounded the issue. The way I think it goes, if you have an initial delay that will lead to successive delays etc. In order to see how much did it matter in the end, you'd have to look at each individual stage of the operation and the interaction between the different army groups in the Soviet Union. The Balkans continued to be a problem for the Germans, however, in terms of how much manpower, equipment and supplies were needed to secure the region against an impending British invasion. Had the region stayed largely neutral, it would have provided a much more effective buffer zone and increased the odds of success for Operation Barbarossa. However, we know that's not how things worked so this really is about 'buts and ifs'... or at least that's where I'd like to keep it.... -

Why no Hardcore mode? a Letter to WG.
Karasu_Browarszky replied to Faceoff's topic in General Discussion
Yeah but... why does it look like to me that the way the game renders the ships in relation to your point of view is not consistent with the angle shown by the navigator. This is a huge problem for me, because I'm trying to manually figure out where to aim my shots.... The mod itself is fully legal as it's part of the Modstation. Uhm... I'd actually welcome a mod that would change the aiming and tracking interface to give me meaningful data that is shown a way that makes it more useable and easier to interpret. I guess what I'm saying is... I want to have a real lock on and tracking ability for my guns... -

Always take with a hefty grain of salt everything politicians say. That, nor this discussion which is only about how this affected Operation Barbarossa (right, folks?) and won't take anything away from the courage the Greek fighters and resistance showed during WW2. -
Yup. Can confirm, BB's are next to useless at least in low to mid tier coop now. There's also one curious thing about those rapid firing cruisers: the bot cruisers do not have the same rate of fire...

Seems they had some magic word.. 'OXI'. Maybe that explains it.. or maybe it was the aliens who delayed the Germans.. I'm not saying it was the aliens, but then I'm not following the History Channel. However, they can make a convincing case. Like this (obviously) Greek source: https://greekreporter.com/2021/10/27/how-greece-delayed-german-attack-russia/ How much did the 'wear and tear' matter? How much did the invasion of Crete hamper Luftwaffe operations in the Soviet Union? A three week delay at the onset does not sound like much, but I'm willing to go at least as far as to say that the Balkan/Crete campaign (which was something the Germans actually had to commit to at that stage, it's not like they had any other option) was a factor. How significant a factor it was, is a question that I rather leave to impartial military historians to debate. I do understand the healthy skepticism, especially as it is fair to say that Operation Barbarossa was doomed to fail regardless given the prevailing strategic conditions and economic realities of the time. Or... Perhaps a Greek ship in WoWS would finally make me invincible!
