Hmm.. there's also the data that WG has. That data is fully objective, the question is will it tally with the results of the survey, and if so, will it matter.
-
All of this is so complicated there surely has to be a patent somewhere.
-
So, essentially at least some of the problems may be due to the route that varies from day to day?

Who? Sounds like one of those distants of mine... -
Looks like its working fine to me...

Ah... yes. It seems you do get that map mode especially if you have a cap/cap assist or defend mission....

Well.. okay, but... Diving isn't a capacity thing except in terms of oxygen supply. The problem is with WG's accelerated time concept, if we assume the sub would run out of oxygen and had to surface due to this reason, it's possible... but highly unlikely that anyone would hang around topside waiting for that to happen. Of course... in WG's world of 'Arcade and Magick Mysteries' anything goes, but then you are dealing with a game that hasn't even a shred of token realism left. Actually, that might be what we have to begin with... I don't think forcing the subs to surface like this is an answer to the problem, and it's not how the smoke works with DD's either. There's, of course three ways the DD's can use their smoke: 1) to conceal team mates; 2) cover their escape; 3) sit in smoke. Only option 3) here would be similar to having the sub have to surface as when the smoke evaporates, the DD 'surfaces' in a sense. However,... I don't consider sitting in smoke the smartest thing to do, especially if there is an enemy DD or a radar ship near. Or a sub... There are the depth charges which theoretically could be used to force the sub to surface. Then again... depth charges seem more like a gimmick here than an actual countermeasure. What I'm trying to say is, if the sub needed to surface, it would have to be something that happens as a result of enemy action or misplay on the part of the sub. -

There would be such a mechanic... using debris to 'fool' the enemy. How that could be made to work in gameplay terms in WoWS, though. Another real escape they would have is diving deep, very deep... to go under the thermal layer where sonar cannot detect them... and typically depth charges would not go that deep either. However... if there's no counterplay, depth charges being of questionable effectiveness, and there being actually no sonar to detect them... .... There's no 'incentive' for subs to engage in evasive measures. All they have to do is be wary of making mistakes. Failed implementation. ... and failed concept, too. -

I agree. Immersion, counterplay, and the fact that subs, and CV's... are the two classes that can almost entirely focus on damage farming alone. CV's typically only need to 'multitask' when their team fails. The subs present a slight variation of this. They will only need to multitask if they themselves make mistakes. In neither case is their failure directly attributed to enemy action. No other class in the game has this luxury. -

If WG released these subs as a single player game, it would probably live true to the term. Hmm... regardless I see no place for the subs in what we know as randoms and coop, while no doubt that's where WG intends to shove them. I tend to be a bit of purist, so I prefer a degree of scaled realism in all the games I play. Specifically, I'm looking for the sort of game design that leaves the 'uncool' elements out, but keeps the 'cool' elements in. This calls for that often quoted 'suspension of disbelief' and 'immersive gameplay' to be somewhere there. WoWS is a very mixed bag of nuts, there's so much of that 'cool' stuff from real life in it, but they have also snuck in very 'uncool' elements that have no counterpart in real life. Such as making every single game mode a mish mash of things, instead of establishing clearly defined and separate game modes for different types of game play. I've said that before, and I'll keep saying it in future as well. -

Yup. Agree. Likewise.... Yes, they would be. You'd expect subs to go for transport ships and capital ships, but not in a battle... only in convoys. This set up makes zero sense for game play. Yes, but... that is anachronistic for the sort of surface ships this game has. Moreover, there's no place for that in the midst of a surface battle... what the subs need is separate game modes, there's no two ways about it. The biggers issues I'd have is lack of or poorly designed countermeasures and, of course, the faulty game concept to begin with. -

Reminds me of that supposedly Chinese saying... wishing someone interesting times. For many, times have been interesting with the subs in the game... -
To be fair, though. Connection issues are not always necessarily down to something wrong at WG's end. The fact that they come and go points to something being unstable along the route. Not a tech specialist, but I suspect WG log in server detects a time out you fail to connect. Something similar may occur during game play. Then there are the clear cases where the faul is at WG's end, either on the game servers or with the authentication server. These fall into an entirely different category, there's literally nothing you can do to fix them at your end all you can do is wait. In these cases, compensation is usually offered.

I'm testing this myself. FSI Yamato is apparantly part of Aslan's mod pack, as it is also part of Modstation mods. I don't know how Aslan's modpack works, it has options to select and deselect same as Modstation, so it can't be radically different. In game, FSI camo overwrites the following: No Camo/naked ship, Regular Permacamo, and all expendable camos. This is with all the filters turned on. With all the filters turned off, the results are the same. As it also replaces the No Camo option, I suspect it overwrites something in the game files. I'm going to try uninstalling it next through Modstation. EDIT I deselected the FSI Yamato camo in Modstation and pressed APPLY to uninstall it. After logging in, the camo was no longer visible. I'm not sure how you got the camo in the first place, but definitely deselecting and applying the selection uninstalled it for me. In case something is broken in the game files, you could try check and repair.

Do you mean Modstation mods... or do you have mods installed independent of the Modstation?

I've noticed connection (with login) problems with Rockstar. But yes, while having those problems with game servers like these, otherwise Internet's been working fine. Sometimes you get these problems also with YouTube, too.
-
So.. it's due to how short or long the route is? I assume you are setting VPN closer to the game servers, as this is the way it makes sense. Usually, for EU servers, I haven't noticed much change, though, between non-VPN or which location I connect to by VPN either. On Asia server, I sometimes fail to connect by VPN. Then I reset the VPN, back and forth, and can connect. No idea what's causing that, from layman's PoV, the signal may be too weak and WG uses some method of detecting this.
-
Seems VPN is a solution then. Or manually selecting a non ISP DNS, like Cloudfare or Quad9. I tried those both, mostly was using Cloudflare. Now on VPN, though, so manually configuring the DNS is bit of a no go with that.
