    That is actually a really exciting idea, an ongoing Grand Battle that you could join any time of the day. I just wonder how the servers could handle that, or how individual players rigs could take it all in. My suggestion would be to limit this to the Ocean map, because then there'd be a lot less vegetation and ground details to render... it being the Ocean and as you know there usually is very little vegetation or visible ground in open waters.

    First you phase out... Then you go grab a snack and start thinking about your next fiasco... I mean battle. hehe. Alternatively, you can try playing fire director for your team, sometimes they do respond and start sinking the ships that represent a 'clear and present danger' and your team then can flip the match. Just don't expect it to work every time...

    Yes, but the caps are entirely gimmicky, especially if you contrast this with the operations. I know that you could 'mime' the 'area control' aspect, but it just doesn't feel the same... doubt even having Marceau would help me much in that regard...

    Yes, well, kiting is what you do if you are the weaker side/flank facing a stronger push. Makes sense, tacticswise. The operations do come a lot closer to the kind of game play that I'd like to see, (tactics and gunnery) that is true, but sadly we are missing a lot of the good operations we used to have, no sight of them or any new ones coming up. Even coop is closer to an actual tactical engagement than randoms. I've mostly switched over to coop, mostly because of the subs, but in many ways you can get better games (on average) in coop than in the randoms. Brawls, if this is understood to mean engagement within secondary range, would be good, but I can only see those as being enjoyable on the lower tiers, where again, you don't even get a chance to get randoms so it's mostly coop which takes away some of the fun of brawling.

    What @The_Angry_Admiral is a situation I've experienced myself. If the enemy gains a points advantage by capping earlier in the game, there's no way you can kill enemy ships fast enough, because they will be playing for time by that point in the battle. You can, of course, make an argument that the situation is due to the losing team not paying attention to the caps and their significance. This is, I think, what OP means about there being two games going on at the same time. Only one of those games has any similarity with actual naval battles and tactics. Guess which type of game I value higher?

    The basic problem, as I see it, is that there is literally no room for tactical play. And no... by 'tactical' I don't mean camping and hiding behind rocks. I mean executing maneuvers, forcing the enemy to make mistakes, capitalizing on those etc.

    Yeah.. but if the best way to win battles is through defensive action, we know there's something horribly wrong with the meta.

    Not sure when they added that but... if I got here early enough, I don't recall having a problem with battles lasting too long or being boring back in 2015... ... it's more like the exact opposite with Now vs. Then....

    Perhaps we could have a rolling map, to discourage camping, I mean. If you camp, you drop off the battle... or something? I know it's arcadey, because it's straight out an arcade mechanic, but if it works?....

    Yes, but... only indirectly. That's why I think we have those gimmicky cap zones in the game. We could just have battles which are based on ships/tonnage (make that HP) lost over the course of the battle. This would work similar to the points count we currently have in the game. Since the caps are entirely just a gimmick with little or no tactical value per se, I'd find the points count method mostly preferable. If neither side can score a decisive victory (in terms of points), the battle would be termed undecided (draw).

    A good idea, but unlikely to happen, at least on a major scale. What could be possible is having maybe access to whatever historical or quasi-historical options the ships might have had. In a sense, expanding on the current equipment/upgrade idea. @1MajorKoenig You want the real Bayern back then?

    I'll wait and see myself, so far looks somewhat promising, but I don't want to wake up on Xmas morning to notice there is nothing but a hole in my stocking.
