In RL terms, gotta be Yamato. While not the last battleship ever built, the Yamato class are super battleships. Not that the concept was very practical in itself, but at least it was and still is super cool. In game terms as well, because it is the only real existing tier X BB in the game, and was part of the 'original' tech trees (Japan and USA). Somewhat unexpectedly, the most iconic ships people remember are either battleships or carriers, regardless of what their actual battle records were. Then come the cruisers, destroyers and submarines (yes, them too) and smaller vessels which excelled in combat or are otherwise historically noteworthy. I could mention USS Missouri, and also HMS Amethyst here as well. Plenty of iconic ships out there (not all of them in this game) if you start looking.

There's plenty of BB's to choose from in that case, for different play styles and the best way to find which play style suits someone is to first grind the tech tree ones. As for cruisers, some cruisers also fit different play styles better. For heavy cruiser play, I'd rate Alaska pretty high, as you said: 'one of the best cruisers in the game'.

The maps were too small, they are still too small, they will get even more too small... if that is grammatically possible.

Ships don't have brakes... surely?

The waves may not affect the calculations on the mechanics side, but they do make the visual element of the aiming process noticeably harder. This is noticeable, in particular, when targeting DD's.

Just keep in mind folks that those TX ships there ain't no premiums. Special ships which can be nerfed later on.

Correct. I meant anything awarded through missions. I haven't usually bought premiums from the tech tree, but I seem to recall there being a 300 difference somewhere in the books. This is actually a good thing, because this way nobody is forced to get extra slots they don't need.

I'm just wondering what other goodies they will drop, apart from the ships. I've looked at the list and the odds therein, but haven't yet figured out which of the three types of crates are the best value if you are not looking to get any more ships drop.

It is possible, you may have had those clan battle rentals while buying port slots which might throw off your count unless you realised you had them. Depending on when you did that, currently there are I think several tier X rentals for clan battles in my port, for up to like two to three months period. Not saying that's what happened, and we've heard similar things every now and then so plese keep us posted about if you get some kind of a reply to your ticket. BTW, there's also a possibility you may get extra slots if you get those rewarded from the daily missions. So, you will basically need to keep manual records if you want to stay 100% what you bought and what you got free, plus the rental slots in there as well.

The 'pros' of the pan-lines are that you can switch commanders around freely. There must be some 'cons' as well, but can't think of any unless ships end up become 'hostages' like Friesland did...

Well, can you name a Soviet CV (in the timeframe we have here), or a Soviet BB... or a Soviet cruiser fitting for high tiers for that matter?. I find a Polish supercarrier entirely believable.
