How about a... simulation game?
-
There's like two scenarios where I personally misuse my ship: 1) I don't know what I'm sailing into (which you could call 'fog of war'... or just dodgy spotting mechanics...), or 2) I'm trying to do the right thing (or what I at least think is the right thing, only to notice that I seem to be in the minority as far as my team is considered...). Many times my team spreads out in all directions like a flock of hens, they get drawn to those magnetic rocks scattered at convenient spots (except for me they are in inconvenient spots because I often run into them or they prevent me from turning at a critical juncture in the battle ... in other words, ruin my tactics; but this is a separate peeve of mine....). To my suprise, my team sometimes wins even though IMO the enemy played a tactically better battle.

Like @Captain_Hook_ and @Bland_42 pointed out, spotting could be a very complicated mechanic if it were completely in line with real life physics. I get that in a game (like this) you are going to need to make a lot of simplifications, more than in a simulation because of the way this game is paced (accelerated time) and the way there are very limited automated actions (basically secondaries and AA only). The basic principle that from higher up you see further should apply, whether that amounts to detecting/spotting enemy ships or not, could depend on additional variables. However, in principle yes, I think spotting should be easier, and hitting harder (than spotting), because it would change the dynamics of the battle and how the players respond tactically. To balance this out, I'd radically overhaul proxy spotting even up to the point of not allowing the player to get a lock on such targets that are not in their own active spotting range. WG can't really be expected to code 'team play' into the game mechanics if the player base itself is lacking the most basic rudimentaries of team play tactics.... It could be done, though, if they wanted to, at least to the extent that the game would give audio messages (like in operations) and provide extra reward in the form of... 'Tactical XP'... could we call it. What you could use this 'Tactical XP' for I haven't the foggiest, though.

Spotting and hitting are two different things.

Well, this is exactly as it should be.

Error after installing the new updates as recomended.
Karasu_Browarszky replied to Anthoniusii's topic in General Discussion
Okay, so what you think is there was a glitch when downloading something and when you did the reinstall that didn't happen? Anecdotally, in about 99% of the cases reinstalling never solves any issues. I'm under the impression the check and repair effectively does the same thing in terms of file integrity, and I think there are cases where even the check and repair hasn't solved it which means the issue is not always with the game software. Losing premium time and such always sucks, but glad to hear you got it fixed. -
Er... were they ever? IIRC they weren't anything particular when they were introduced some time back.

Players on friends list not appearing online

IIRC, there's also a bug that shows your friends online even though they aren't. Imagine the frustration of trying to message them and invite to Division... -

Still no folder 5343985 for me.... curious. There must be something different in how the game's set up for me and some of the others. I see this in the WGC: If you mean you wait and wait and eventually get the box with the error message saying you couldn't log in, that happens to me occasionally, but I really think this is connection related meaning somewhere between you and the game servers. Sometimes, if using VPN (you could try setting up Cloudflare or Quad9 DNS server manually in your settings maybe too) switching to an alternate server allows me to log in. Sometimes not even that helps, yet some hours later or the following day it works fine. Uninstall/reinstall rarely (or never) fixes anything. If you have an older GPU you might be out of luck, as mentioned here: Otherwise, go the game settings in WGC (unless you got Steam...) do the check and repair + find additional software, if that's not solving the issue, generate WGCheck report and submit a ticket. -
May I suggest the steam frigate Kamchatka (an earlier one, not the ship we know so well...). Completed in 1841, built in the USA, and commanded by one of those distant cousins of mine (naturally...), captain (later admiral) Ivan von Schantz. ... Apparently, he was quite a forceful personality... I... I think Mr Bogolyubov must be confusing him with some other von Schantz, as AFAIK his father was military, not a blacksmith... @Aethervoxx lol sorry, I was in game (online) but afk, I spend much more time here on the forums than in the game itself.

If there was a mode without CVs....

As I understood it, not from the game but from certain (types/modes of) battle. -

I think OP means, to make it fair (in the sense of not just CV bashing here) if there are some other ship classes you'd rather not see in battle. -

Not sure if moderators can tell you that, maybe WG staff or the tech forum? -

There must be something different with your setup, I'm using just the one client for all accounts (EU and ASIA for me), no Steam related accounts, no PTS instances installed, and these are my bin folders. I have the same folders as yesterday. IIRC, mods were also installed to 5241341 previously, meaning yesterday (prior to today's modstation update). So, it seems the active folder was switched overnight, though both folders did exist yesterday as well. -

Unsure, but the Modstation had updated itself as well. BTW, the Modstation installed the mods in the 5315992 folder. -
Sevastopol?? Iced or not.
Karasu_Browarszky replied to ________________Morrison's topic in General Discussion
I'm currently with Riga trying to grind Petropavlovsk (though not the historically correct Petropavlovsk from 1911 that one of my more distant cousins commanded in 1917), so I might be looking forward to getting Sevastopol as well. In the mean time, I noticed I didn't have Kiev, so I went ahead and bought it back (though, TBH, I liked the old Kiev more as it was the ship I earned my first Kraken with.) Kiev (sic), and the only port I could choose this time of year. -
Mod, as @SV_Kompresor said. Customizable panels by BADoBest. You can easily have this picked up from the Official Modstation.

So... are we talkinga bout the health bars hovering above the ships or the roster?

If only it would be as easy to choose the map for your battles....

If there was a mode without CVs....
Karasu_Browarszky replied to FukushuNL's topic in General Discussion
We would need more variety of game play, not necessary new modes IMO, because the current distribution into PvP and PvE modes is balanced as such. What we are lacking is the variety. We'd definitely need more variety in terms of operations (PvE), possibly such that would limit the playable ship classes more to give us that range of options I think the game needs for the operations to be truly fun and engaging. As for the randoms... I don't think we should have any separate modes for randoms. I've been advocating the Era based structure, which would pretty much determine where you'd see CV's and what would be their potential in battle. As for the other classes... it might be interesting if the MM would occasionally distribute the DD's, Cruisers and BB's more 'creatively', so we might have more skirmish type of battles in the randoms, and then those more slow paced BB engagements as well. Instead of the current smash up which leaves me, personally at least, unsatisfied. -
Seems to me they just added some water...

Well, the map has been changed radically. This is no longer anything like the original Savage Battles map was.
