Biting the bullet and coming back to PC gaming
OldGrandad replied to RattyShark's topic in General Discussion
Tom, firstly welcome. As you have so eloquently described your wish to 'return' to PC gaming and seek residence here at WoWs without throwing in a 'begging' wish for a code I applaud you. I think you will appreciate your stay here very much but what I will say, is to take personal views here with a pinch of salt and wait until you get access (please keep your eyes peeled across all media for application offers) and see what the excitement is all about and make an opinion then. Hopefully see you on the seas soon. -
Hello konyvfalovb (mouthful!), I am certainly not going to 'flame' you but your argument is extremely wide of the mark. I will start with the first part of your post where you make the common mistake when believing more people agree with you than reality dictates; "Most of the people". Why would anyone that proclaims to be waiting a long time to gain entry to what is a Beta stage of a game only give it one or two hours before deciding to uninstall? As it is still in the testing stage (and I will reiterate that) why on earth make comments regarding mismatched MM when the game is nowhere near release? I am more fortunate than most here regarding what I do and I will say that work is constantly going on regarding balance of ships, the MM, design of maps etc. Why oh why are so many threads being started lambasting different elements of the game when those complainants have as yet not experienced a single update since joining? For those that are making complaints about mismatched teams, I say bring them (bigger teams) on as there is then more opportunity to make more damage! Small player base? If only you were around in Alpha, if we had 200 online at any one time we were lucky! Currently for those that have partook in Alpha this is fantastic with no waiting times (I will talk about PM as I am at work AM). No, it is a fubarred MM that needs addressing but that as I have said is being worked on.

HMS Warrior awarded £2.6m grant for repair works The world's first iron-hulled, armoured battleship has been awarded £2.6m funding for repairs. HMS Warrior at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard secured the funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of a wider £3.6m project. The 1860 ship, which is visited by 260,000 people each year, needs repair work to ensure it remains watertight. HMS Warrior was launched in in 1860 and was the pride of Queen Victoria's Black Battle fleet. It was the largest, fastest and most powerful ship at the time, but it was sold in 1924 to be converted into an oil pontoon. In the 1980s it was rescued and restored as it was the last survivor of the original fleet. Rear Adm Neil Latham CBE, chairman of the Warrior Preservation Trust, said: "Once complete, Warrior will provide a dynamic visitor experience, excellent community engagement and research opportunities whilst securing the future of this remarkable ship for future generations." The preservation works, expected to take two years, will include repairs to the bulwarks and water bar, which are deteriorating and putting the ship "at significant risk". A fundraising project is now being launched to raise the remaining £1m for the works. News courtesy of the BBC

Would much prefer the RL camo ships bore rather than custom, but that is merely my personal opinion. Well done to the creator though as I can assume it was not too easy!

These are graphical artefacts and could be caused by of a few of things, outdated drivers, card overheating or indeed as said about to fail. Try updating drivers first (if not done so yet) and see if and when it happens again at what temperature is your card getting to at that time. To measure GPU temperatures try this - GPUZ

Hmm, 7 posts since 2012? Begging? Applications are your friend, watch out for them and apply but I guess with your frequency of visits the game will be released before you reply again.....

Random battles vs coop battles - which and why?
OldGrandad replied to konyvfalovb's topic in General Discussion
Unlike Random competing in Co-op battles will not count towards your overall battle count but you will earn XP and credits (around 50% I believe?). Whereas Random is human versus human players, in Co-op you will play against a team of AI controlled bots. On top of that, no matter how many are currently in the queue you will get a battle and your team will comprise of either all human players (if enough in the queue) or a mix of human players and bots. Wait time for a Co-op battle is 90 seconds or less but in Random the wait can/could be higher if not enough players are present at the respective tiers. I hope that helps. -
What do you mean 250k repairs ? Are you guys serious?
OldGrandad replied to Ley1's topic in General Discussion
I was not patronising at all, I was pointing out your expectations are flawed. To quote "YOU BET i have expectations to be able to play what i wanted ". Well you have played what you wanted (Tomato) but you chose to sacrifice everything to attain your target but have found that you can not service it often due to costs. Now, if you looked hard enough you would have known the costs would exponentially get higher. I certainly am not going to 'patronise' you further as you are failing to understand the obvious. -

OldGrandad replied to Ley1's topic in General Discussion
This update I have had little time to play due to a lot of super testing but in my limited battles I have got 2 tier 7 ships and 12 million credits all due to reasonable results. Whilst I may not be able to buy slots (until Piasters become available) I will grind along with everyone else. But, repeating myself yet again you and Ley1 are expecting something expensive for little contribution towards. You can play this game for as long as you want (at tier 10) but be prepared to pay otherwise settle for lower tiers. Boy I have to repeat myself......... You really do not get it? JeeWeeJ answered you perfectly, all your eggs in one basket sums you up. In fact greed comes to mind, you just had to get the elite but by doing so you had to sell your bread and butter, the means to feed your elite. I have highlighted what to me is the most ridiculous thing you could have done, absolutely no thought as to how you can pay for something you plainly cannot afford. -
Hello Hellis, what figures (FPS, ms) are you seeing displayed in the top left corner when you are experiencing the lagging? When you experience a severe issue of lag hit print screen to save a screenshot of that moment. What graphical settings do you have set, Low, Medium, High? Please come back with that information and we will see what we can do to help you resolve your issue.

Hi Mac, I was fortunate that Training Battles remained in my client so I could test away without impacting others. It is due to be included in the next update and with that I will put up my guide as to how best use Training Battles when it comes. Training Battles will enable you to test your carrier 'skills' and learn to manual aim so from there find out whether you like it or not. I have as yet to play carriers this update but previously sailed them all up to the Essex and to be honest it can get frantic as it is all about micro-management but there is nothing better than selecting a squadron, hitting Z and manually aiming from there as you are there with your planes right in the action, good luck and enjoy CV's.

How many battles before your opinion is valid?
OldGrandad replied to Boevebeest's topic in General Discussion
Hello and welcome brick128. As for the point you raise. There is no time frame nor amount of battles you need to play to raise points, concerns or opinions (although the latter is best served with more experience I grant you). What is needed though is thought, balance and construction to your points and as so eloquently described by twibs above, do not come in first off with what we would call a 'whine post'. Some have already started to post threads that attack the current test model (whether it be costs, earnings or ship statistics etc) with no solid or constructive description to back their 'whine' up. So constructive and fully descriptive posts will get you noticed and hopefully rewarded by similar replies. -

Ok, responding to your first point. We are testing the economy at this point hence why no Piasters have been made available as of yet. When Piasters are made available you will no doubt have the ability to purchase spare port slots to buy those ships you prefer to keep. For your last point, you are not buying anything because everything is totally free until full release. As explained multiple times, this is a FTP game which is a commercial model that needs financing to keep it afloat. If it was easy to get to tier 10 AND easy to maintain how would WG make money? Think of tier 10 as a prestige car in your garage, very expensive to run, very high insurance, very high servicing yet your little Fiat costs next to nothing in comparison. Using your words, WG 'force' players to either pay to keep playing at tier 10 or you can revert to playing a money making tier ship to fund your desire to use tier 10 ships, how sensible is that? Very. You are failing miserably in understanding the concept of the game, pay to grind quickly or take the 'free lunch' option and grind for a lot longer to achieve the same result. How can playing a game for free be bad? If you do not like that option for a free game I suggest making a choice to accept what is wholly reasonable to most or not reasonable in your eyes........ the door is not locked. Read the above response. Nobody is punishing you, if you do not like what is wholly reasonable....leave. Partly explained above in my first response. With the current numbers in game it makes it easier to test economy which can be tweaked either way. In my eyes I believe it is quite generous up to tier 7 and a little steeper from tier 8 upwards so that balances it quite well. If anything tier 6 and 7 costs could be raised a little and tier 8 lowered slightly to get a more even cost curve and leaving tiers 9 and 10 as the pinnacles of expense. I do apologise to those that think my defence of the FTP model is abhorrent (particularly to some I have responded to) but we have to think commercially. I for one applaud the FTP model and fully understand as to why it is so expensive at the higher tiers, I just wish some others would grasp the understanding of that point a little tighter...... -
Well the Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha class fast destroyers will be worth waiting for....
-
Beat me to it! In Alpha, Essex was sat at tier 9 for quite a while until they made her a placement in tier 10. Watch this space......

You know where the door is......... This is a commercial model, created to make money not lose it. There are those that are glad to invest in something they like and there are those that just want to grab something for little or nothing. So, you do not want to play anything under tier 10? fine but be prepared to play with the high rollers that can afford to take a hit and pay their way through it. Others, will have to revert to funding the high tier games by making enough at lower tiers to do so, simple. So I made a 'crap comment'? That was a logical and straightforward statement with which you found umbrage, well tough. I for one will be willing to invest in this game when it goes live........ -

I do like a good drop of wine but I hate whine. It is a shame we have threads started by those that think everything should be placed on a plate for them. As described perfectly by Sharana (post #3) tier 10 is the epitome of that class and whilst rewards can be bountiful costs can be equally expensive, you roll the dice. One bad battle in tier 10 can easily be countered by a couple of reasonable battles in tier 6. Off to the shop, I can get 6 whines for the price of 4 there....... -
Draws, there must be a way of deciding a winner.
OldGrandad replied to shrapnel_bait's topic in General Discussion
There is, total destruction of the enemy team or domination via cap points. You state in a reply that you were hunting down the enemy and if truth be said the enemy were smarter as they saw you not capping so led you a merry dance until the battle ended in a draw. This is just another angle on players not working with each other for a win or plain not understanding how to be tactical. All it needs is someone to realise in time that if the last enemy is not being found quick enough they will need to start capping. Believe me it is so satisfying in winning by cap when the enemy are doing their best to avoid you. Yesterday I was on a winning team and we won by cap as the timer just hit 1 second to go, we did so as I made a rather late shout to cap and thank goodness it paid off....just! -
Hmm, has this little thought of yours emanated from the fact that 82% of your battles are in BB's? Thought so. You need to make hay for a little while as when (as they will) they nerf the BB's you will be decrying how underpowered BB's are.
-
Ok, this thread has gone from one players perspective to a defend/attack BB thread. 2 points are relevant regarding changes made in this current client. One shot kills (more prevalent with BB's due to their shell size) and the 'revive' module on BB's. Both need to be addressed. One painful witness to the power of a BB's salvo was me in a full health Mogami, completely wiped out. Before we have the defenders of this (dedicated BB captains no doubt) pointing out it did happen in RL I need to point out that this game does not mirror real life. We need more balanced play so unless all ships have some magic elixir it needs taking off BB's. Now, I can say these things as I sail everything (prior to this patch I had every ship in the game) and because of the balance prior to Beta I enjoyed playing all tiers and all classes. On the contrary, most battles I am in players have no notion of what being able to win by domination means. Ineffective AA? - You have the Cleveland which has pound for pound the best AA of any ship. Carrier planes - They can drop torpedoes anywhere they like but of course if they are too close they will not arm and hence not hit you. What you describe is manual aiming and it is extremely difficult. As you have not yet had a battle in a CV I suggest with the next update try one in a Training Battle and come back with an honest answer then. As for the rest, well it is the same for everyone. Try to be a little more constructive with your description of issues you are having, you say 'lagging' at over 12km, what do you mean? Do you mean latency where the ships appear to 'jerk' when going to and from the rangefinder? As for MM we all know that is far from right at the moment and again your post is a little exaggerating in saying constantly having mismatched player amounts. I would say at best I have had a handful of battles where there has been different player totals in the teams.

Surface visibility - 10.8km Air visibility - 4.8km Torpedo range - 10km So with that information you can see that you can fire your torps at the target without being seen. OP must have been spotted by a DD.
