OK so after watching the twitch video when the changes were announced, I was absolutely sure it was some kind of a joke... a bad test that will never see the light of day. But since we are allowed to play it now, I thought I will give it a go to see if its really as bad as it looked. I am not really a CV player but I did grind to t9 CVs on live to be able to finish the campaign tasks faster.
Its so much worse than I ever imagined. The CV new gameplay is just... inconsequential? Like, what is the point of taking a CV into battle? You can not affect the outcome of the match.. at all. Every other class has a potential to carry a game every now and then, but what is this HP pinata good for? You can barely spot anything. Your alpha damage is gone replaced by some DoT if you focus the same target over and over, which is just annoying for the target and boring for the cv. I feel like I am playing some truck simulator where I just drive back and forward between 2 locations over and over again.
Why do we even have the CV itself in the game? It would be just as easy to make the planes come from the edge of the screen or materialize from thin air. Since the plane travel time is so short and there is no re-arm time at all.. why do we even need the CV on the map? We can barely control it and its dead as soon as its spotted by a real ship.
All mechanics aside, there is only one thing that matters. Its a game and its meant to be fun to play. With all the drawback that we have with the current RTS CV gameplay, at least one thins is sure, its fun to play, at least for the CV player. The new system is boring, tedious and has zero reward for being above average player. It is not fun. On top of that, if I wanted to have a game where I had direct control of a plane while shooting at surface targets.. well there is war thunder.
