Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Trainspite replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Encountered Gojuadorai in his Atago, while I was at the helm of Pensacola. He survived long enough for me to put 900 dmg into him, which was very kind. In the end he did reasonably well for his team, while my plucky Pensacola climbed into second in XP. -
Judging by the trend of C hulls coming for ships - Furutaka and Nurnberg, I am guessing Pensacola will recieve a C hull soon, which should be the refit where the tall tripod mast is cut down. Which in turn reduces her detection range, so Indianapolis may not retain that advantage for long. And yes, Indianapolis should definitely remain at tier 7. At tier 8 she is just a worse New Orleans really.

Why does my Warspite have crap range whereas my Texas gets 18,1km ?
Trainspite replied to RedStorm1's topic in Battleships
In the game of course. You didn't think that I quoted real life figures and reasoning did you? Edit: Have I misunderstood your point? WG use the height of the director for the range in game. IRL values don't have anything to do with it in this case. -
15.7 to 16.9 Then again, Indianapolis' rangefinder is at the top of the mast, while Pensacola's is further down. (I think). Indianapolis' advantages are better armour and better range, as well as having a lower detection range. Maybe better AA but I would have to check that. Pensacola has more HP and an extra gun.

Trainspite replied to RedStorm1's topic in Battleships
Actually, the range of ships is based on how high the rangefinder is on the ship, so the Japanese Battleships with their towering Pagoda masts get huge range, at the same time as getting detected from half the map away. Warspite, being fairly low and stealthy for a battleship has a range that correlates to the height of the rangefinder, and the same goes for New Mexico, Texas etc. - However they get the Artillery plotting room, Warspite doesn't. I don't really see why Warspite shouldn't though. -

Meanwhile, none of this solves the problem that Warspite seems to be fairly inaccurate nowadays, hitting 1-2 shots from a full salvo is more common, instead of the 4+ which left enemies in a world of hurt. Increased accuracy is nice, but if you can't hit anything at that range, then you are better off attempting to be stealthy and closing the range (Aircraft and Destroyer depending). -
Portland/Indianapolis is basically what evolved into New Orleans. This family of cruisers goes roughly like this: Pensacola -> Northampton -> Portland -> New Orleans. New Orleans is already underperforming slightly at tier 8, so having a a premium tier 8 which is worse than New Orleans is probably not going to sell well, not unless WG give it something like the Damage repair - as seen on Atago. Even then the ship would be underpowered, as it is just a worse (or predecessor to) New Orleans, repair skills probably just bringing it onto par. It is better for Portland/Indianapolis to be a tier 7, where the only large advantage would be the better detection distance due to not having a large tripod mast. Even then, this advantage may be lost if Pensacola and Northampton get their final hulls with the cut down masts. A better premium tier 8 USN Heavy Cruiser candidate is San Francisco, however, Wichita and a 12 gun Pensacola Preliminary could also make it in.

I didn't think Montana needed an ahistorical speed buff...

I was not referring to Edinburgh with the comment about armour. The town class in my tech tree (Southampton at tier 7 and Edinburgh/Belfast at tier 8) are decently protected for their tier. Not debating Edinburgh/Belfast as a tier 8. She definitely fits there. I was referencing the higher tiers really, Minotaur and her preliminaries. They have lacklustre armour for tier 10, but then they are tier Light Cruisers, planned for late WW2. The Heavy Cruisers have mostly decent armour. The counties are decently protected, Canberra taking an absolute kicking. Berwick's main belt performed adequately.

Emden (Riechsmarine ship from 1925) was originally planned to be the tier 5 in the German cruiser line, with Konigsberg 1927 at tier 6, but he got squished out, since he most likely could not compete with the overbuffed Omaha. What they will do about this I'm not really sure. I'm guessing they might add in the date the ship was built after the ship, so Emden 1906 and Emden 1925, which is an elegant solution, but opens up a lot of possibilities like say renaming Karlsruhe to Konigsberg 1915, multiple premiums representing a single ship (Royal Sovereign - Arkhangelsk or Guilo Cesare/Novorossiysk etc.) and even abandoning the historical names chosen by WG given to the paper projects never assigned a name.

PROPOSAL: Full German Capital Ships Line (BB/BC)
Trainspite replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
Blücher as a name should be reserved for the SMS Armoured Cruiser really, the later Admiral Hipper class cruiser of the same name is not exactly a good choice for a premium candidate, as it rules out (at least for now) the old armoured cruiser appearing, but also there is a better choice for a tier 8 premium German CA, in the form of Prinz Eugen. A more famous ship means she will sell better for WG, while Blücher wasn't as famous. (Getting sunk in Norway with Konigsberg, Karlsruhe and 10 Destroyers does not help) -
If you don't like slow turning turrets then are not going to like most of the British BBs & BCs. Including Lion 1939, KGV 1938, Hood, QE. Nelson and some of the lower tier ships get to turn in 45 seconds however. Plus, the turret traverse is a minor issue with the ship, definitely not it's main disadvantage.

WG would be breaking a lot of trends by doing that. So I doubt this will be the case. - To me, if Scharnhorst is the tech tree ship - she represents that class, so she gets both 11" and 15" upgrade options. - The Lead ship of the class is almost always the tech tree ship. Depends if you count Scharnhorst and Gneisenau as separate ships however. - What are you going to do about the armoured cruiser class from the first world war? I would suggest that Scharnhorst be used for the BB/BC - while Gneisenau is used for the tier 4 armoured cruiser.

And the old record of most damage done in a single game passes from Wickes to Fubuki. Which is quite a leap. But only 2k more damage. -
Damn, if only I had got here first. Told some of my friends which it was Iron Duke when they saw the video. To them though it is a "boat". ¬-¬

Trainspite replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
One of the names Scharnhorst and Gneisenau has to be used for the WW1 armoured Cruiser class as well, so if Scharnhorst is the tech tree ship at tier 7 for the German BB line, then Gneisenau should be the armoured Cruiser. This leaves Ersatz Yorck for a potential BC line, and L20A as premium. If need be then Scharnhorst and L20A could be swapped. -

I played Warspite for 3-4 games, and could not hit anything. The worst example was missing a broadside Colorado 7-8km away, but the Random Number Generator was equally unforgiving for any other target I selected. So Warspite is now at the back of the port, resuming the role of looking nice to the dockhands. Until I can get around to giving her another go. (I'm just guessing I got really bad RNG)

Oh. Does this mean that it is confirmed that Trainspite can't read? Apologies if I did miss you, might be due to intense warshipping, or me not loading in quick enough to read at first. -
Just bought 36. A decent total I think. And I still have an extra 2'100 gold leftover.

Well, you managed 2 hits on me. And made my engines go Kaput. But I think that was a fair trade for a torpedo hit, 9 hits, and a fire. I'm not sure, would anybody want to see the full gallery of screenshots I took?

Not really, it is comparable to a Hunt class type 4. These things can make quite effective AA escorts if balanced right. -

You have the wrong ships, these are those being offered: Katori - Katori class Training cruiser (1940) Tier 3 CL Tachibana - Sakura Class Destroyer (1912) Tier 2 DD Smith - Smith Class Destroyer (1909) Tier 2 DD Albany - New Orleans class Cruiser (1898) Tier 2 Protected Cruiser However, we could be getting USS Indianapolis (Tier 7 CA) - as it has been hinted at, and appears in the artwork for the event. Maybe as the unknown prize. As for the ships you mentioned, Natori is one of the Nagara class, similar to the Kumas. (Should be tier 4 CL in a IJN CL line from tier 2-8 or so) Tachibana subclass of the Matsu class. I would guess the Matsu class are tier 6 in a second IJN DD line. The Allen M Sumner class is an ideal tier 10 for a second US DD line (7-10), very similar to the Gearing. The Oregon City class is essentially a modified Baltimore, so can work in a second US CA (7-10 also) line at tier 9.
