Firth of Forth anyone? -
Excellent review! However, for fear of feeling dirty, I haven't actually touched the Isokaze since racing past it on my way up the IJN DD line. I think maybe I should before it gets changed, though I don't particularly like the changes to the whole line in general. Maybe taking up a less well liked ship, as repentance for the clubbing? Nurnberg maybe? It isn't Baltimore..

True, I guess it depends which one was first or so. If you even count one as first. If you don't then you can put them all into the clone category. Personally, I just view the Blue and Orange as special event clones of the historical ship that represents her class overall. I wouldn't have included the Campbeltown in sister ship since she is effectively a new class due to the modifications and British equipment. (Town Class DD). Unique in terms of a British DD I guess, since her T3 counterpart is likely to be a more capable gunboat of the M, R or S classes. But you are right, I would probably lean towards a similar role than Unique, since Mutsuki does play quite similarly.

WG uses the standard load displacement speed, or sometimes a trials speed for the top speed, so even a wear and tear ship that has it's machinery worn out will still see it's top speed. Unless they purposely use it as a balance feature.

It's almost like they want us to club seals with stock tier 4 Battleships...
-
I'm not sure if I would regard the Kamikazes as a clone. Well, not of Minekaze anyway. Fujin and the R version would be of the original Kamikaze, but Kamikaze would be a related class I think, though there is not a lot of difference. I agree with basically all of it though, I know where I would place all the premium ships, except possibly Campbeltown, which I am struggling between classing as Unique or Similar Role.

Dammit, I thought I had seen enough of these on the NA forums, and now they are here. Le sigh...
-
Very true. I am concerned about the direction of tier 3 BBs though, looking at Konig Albert, which is roflstomping the other tier 3s on NA at the moment. I just hope that WG don't repeat that mistake.

Most sister ships that are not drastically different due to sub-classes or rebuilds are going to be clone-like. You will have to get used to that since there are quite a few sister ships that are fairly famous. An example would be Leander. But Perth is there as well. And then you have probably the most famous out of that class, Ajax, which is a definite possibility.

It took me only 70 games to unlock New Orleans without premium time. And no constant Equal Speed Charlie London fitted constantly either, I would only add that on a XP bonus event or so.

It's not a shameless plug if you make changes right? Good, because hopefully there are no large arguments with this:

If that is the case, then I will not be surprised. If it is released here, I think a limited time bundle is most likely, and would count myself very lucky if it gets on sale without one. -
What's the best way to use the Colorado-class BB?
Trainspite replied to SeaMonsterUK's topic in Battleships
Oh, you have? I don't notice many people, even if I know them,,, The 150k damage game was good, I abused a Nagato, Bayern and Arizona, but was too slow to have any more impact, and carry the rest of the team. I effectively staved off a defeat on one end of the map (hotspot), only to not make it back in time to save the other from collapsing. She seems alright to me. Maybe I would prefer Nagato over her, but I have not played Nagato since CBT, so times may have changed. -
Tried signing, and realised I had signed it a few months ago. I'm still wondering about the condition of HMS Whimbrel (Black Swan class Sloop), and HMS Zenith (W/Z class Destroyer), since I have not seen any news on those for over a year. They ought to be saved, especially since Whimbrel is the last Royal Navy ship surviving that attended the Japanese surrender at Tokyo bay. And remembering the battle of the Atlantic & Johnnie Walker. Since Illustrious is gone, I think there is already a movement to save HMS Monmouth (Type 23 Frigate) when she comes out of service. So at least one large-ish ship from the latter part of the 20th century is saved. Hopefully.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Trainspite replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Tier 6 is better, since that is where the Rs should be. They could give the Rs the supercharges they got, giving better ballistics in game, both for a regular Revenge, and a Premium Arkangelsk. Though they may not be needed, since the Rs are good enough for tier 6 alone. But if the Arkangelsk gets better stats than the Warspite or QE, then I would not be amused. The same stats as Revenge maybe, in a 1944 condition. -
Do they? I have never noticed any difference. Maybe you notice it a little more because the DD loses a bit more of it's HP. It seems about the same for me really. Also, I have had 17 detonations (16 awards, + one in Leningrad). In 1'731 games. It is only about 1 in a 100, if you play about 25% of your games in DDs. It doesn't seem that much to me really.
-
Trying to pull out that line? There are many things I like and dislike about the game. Detonations fall into the category I like, but stuff like the IJN DD changes, or the changes to Islands of Ice, the removal of Kongo's A hull and the current state of carrier, battleship and cruiser balance etc. , I don't like to varying degrees. Sorry I can't fulfill your stereotype of a Supertester, but I can't defend every decision that WG makes. I only give feedback on new updates. Why I like detonations? Well, I like my history. That should be known. Historical-ish aspect of the game? Yes please. I also mostly forget about them in battle, but I like little random aspects like magazine detonations, that add that little bit of chance into the game. If the game was purely based on skill, I would be tempted to stop playing, since it would be too boring for my liking. Removal of aspects like Detonations sets the game on a slope towards that, and that, I do not want.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

I saw FireRM. I sent him regards with a 16" AP shell through the bow into the citadel of his Hipper. Unfortunately, my steady Colorado did not last much longer against; Kutuzov, Firestorm. -
Doesn't matter, WG did not need your money anyway. But in simple terms, No. I like the aspect actually, it doesn't happen all that often to me, and adds to the atmosphere a bit. Especially when they implement a huge explosion and different sinking animations to differentiate it. Think Jutland style explosions, Invincible, Defence, S35 & Pommern etc.

What's the best way to use the Colorado-class BB?
Trainspite replied to SeaMonsterUK's topic in Battleships
She seems good. I am only at the B hull so far, but I am getting results. I have had terrible games where I have had no good targets to shoot at and being in completely the wrong place at the wrong time, but that is just the ship's inflexible nature due to her speed. -
Yeah, but the point is that AFT & BFT was never needed in the first place. Saying that it has made Kuma average is simply not true. It is still OP as before. Just use that 30 knots to get in range. And 10RPM is perfectly enough. Kuma gets a broadside of 6 140mm with a 10% fire chance, firing every 6 seconds. Phoenix gets 6 152mm, but that puts another second on the reload. And as well with Phoenix, she has AP that is worth using more times, so that takes away from the ammount of fires you get. In my experience, as I said, Kuma is best, followed by Phoenix in terms of setting fires. I would not describe it as average at all. Karlsruhe suffers the same as Phoenix. In any case, Kuma is the ship I know that performs the best with HE. The maximum number of fires I ever got in Phoenix was 14 I think, while Kuma got 22 at one point for me. Kuma has no troubles keeping her guns on target, at least not in my experience. Plus, I never took EM in the first place. I don't see what the problem is here, yes a 180 degree turn affects you negatively, but it is not long before your guns are back up and firing. A new captain who learnt nothing from Tenryu may have troubles, but you are over exaggerating the effect of EM. Not every tier 4 sets fires like that. Karlsruhe and Svietlana really struggled for some reason. Kuma and Phoenix are the two that stand out from the regular selection. On paper it seems the same, but in practice it rarely turns out that way. You can say that Kuma is lacklustre or so, but I would disagree vociferously. I actually didn't like the MM being reduced that much, since I could not abuse Tier 6 BBs and DDs anymore. And I have never had many problems with T5 cruisers. I can usually kite them long enough or disengage. And kill them if they can't keep the pressure up. Those German BBs burn pretty nicely as well.
-
None of it really matters though. It is still one almost overpowered ships. With a scrub 6 point captain, I can still go around wrecking face. The fire setting potential is insane. At one point I remember just sailing alongside a Myogi and setting a fire almost every salvo or two. I usually average about 6-12 fires per game. 20 in a good game. AFT & BFT were never necessary, that is just pure overpowered seal clubbing-ness. She is still probably the best tier 4 cruiser, with Phoenix just behind her.
