Is a USN CA/CL split just brain spin and rumors? or real plans?
Trainspite replied to hgbn_dk's topic in General Discussion
Well, then we could make Yamato a tier 5 as well by giving it a 2 minute reload. It's a more extreme case, but it falls into the same category as moving Pepsi down that far. Not really. Superstructure and visual differences. Maybe a slight difference in HP and AA DPS. So very minor in game purposes. A Hipper/Eugen situation, only with regular ships. It is up to WG how to distinguish them, but it is not advisable to take two very very similar ships and put them at different tiers. -
Is a USN CA/CL split just brain spin and rumors? or real plans?
Trainspite replied to hgbn_dk's topic in General Discussion
It has been planned for some time, since a problem is the Cleveland at tier 6, the CL equivalent of Baltimore which should ideally be a tier 8, but is at tier 6 because reasons. However, WG are being fairly slow about doing it, as there are other priorities, and Cleveland has had the shite nerfed out of her from CBT god tier levels. As for your tree, I disagree with Pensacola at tier 5. She has very good guns for a tier 7, and 10 of them to boot. USN 8" AP is something not to be sniffed at. She is a thoroughly decent ship where she is, helped out by the concealment buff she got. Simply put, Pepsi would need a 30s reload to be balanced at tier 5, her firepower is so great. No torpedoes doesn't hurt Pepsi much at tier 7 anyway. Having 10x 8" at that tier is an obvious advantage over the other CAs beside Myoko which have 8 or 9. A lot of people also put her or Northampton at tier 6, which I don't like either. Both have the firepower to do well at tier 7, and tiers 5 and 6 should be kept to the smaller Heavy Cruisers, of which the USN did not have any. Oregon City is a Baltimore clone effectively, and there does not need to be a tiers difference between them. Same goes for Cleveland & Fargo. Worcester is arguably worse than or equal to Neptune in game, and hence should be a tier 9. My views on the split are as thus: - 9x 6" CL at tier 6, of USN CL lineage with torpedoes. - 7x 8" CA at tier 6, a design inbetween Omaha & Pensacola historically. Speed of Omaha, guns of Pensacola, an ideal fit between them. - Vallejo is Worcester with 3 Triple turrets firing at 15RPM+ compared to the 12RPM 6 Twins she actually had. - Buffalo is in the game files, basically CA-B was a Baltimore with an extra turret. This design had torpedoes for a time during development. -
Anyone looking forward to a French CV line
Trainspite replied to Amminus's topic in General Discussion
Well, the French have their own aircraft and any USN hand outs to use as well, but you can't really create a line out of 1-2 planes per type, like with the Germans, having JU-87Cs constantly or so. Not really. Lexington is Saratoga, and gets access to some better aircraft than Indy, and their tiering is roughly based on the capacity of the carrier and not on the aircraft carried, but recent premiums have shown this to be a trend, and having planes distinctly out of date on the ships that carry them doesn't look too right. In this case, PA 28 is from around 1950, maybe about the same time that a refitted Jean Bart would enter service. Being smaller, based off the RNs Colossus, but faster with a similar number of planes. -

Trainspite replied to Amminus's topic in General Discussion
Not for aircraft, which is quite key. In that respect, the Russians are lacking. Hence the feasibility of those designs is limited. It depends on the aircraft carried for the most part. Since I a Jean Bart conversion would be finished quite late, I would think that she would have modern aircraft that puts here a notch above of the carriers at tier 8, even if she would have less reserves. -
Anyone looking forward to a French CV line
Trainspite replied to Amminus's topic in General Discussion
The French are more likely to get a CV line than the Russians or Germans, and maybe the Italians. Partly because they have designs for the ships themselves, and also because there is a greater choice for the planes to fly off them. V - Bearn VI - Joffre VII - Arromanches (Premium: La Fayette) VIII - PA-28 (Clemenceau) IX - Jean Bart USN Carrier conversion (*Rename Jean Bart here*) Personally, I would be content with a small branch like that. It doesn't have to go to tier 10 exactly, and if you really need a higher tier ship when nothing is suitable from the French archives (of which I know little), then it is not out of WG's capacity to make something up. (Kurfurst, Hindenberg, Henri...) This does depend on how successful a CV rework is of course. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Trainspite replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Well, I had reversed out of their range, and 1-2 of them did come charging forth after you died, but the Belfast & Myoko quickly got deleted. But yeah, they did not lift a finger to support you until too late. -

Trainspite replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
And here we see Trainspite, on the bridge of the Alabama ST, furiously slamming the S key on the control panel, willing his battlewagon to reverse faster, and wondering why the cruisers accompanying the oncoming Tirpitz have ditched him for stronk camping tactics. Still, I got a forum person kill out of it. Is worth. -
We are looking into ways to reduce the BB population
Trainspite replied to Horin728's topic in General Discussion
I wasn't around at around the time the German BBs were being tested. Well, to be more precise, I was new as an ST and happened to be about 7,000 miles from my PC. So as to that, even if I could say, I would struggle. Still, on the nerf list for me would be Nassau, Albert, Kaiser & Bismarck/Tirpitz at least. -
Not today forum monster, not today... That is me being indecisive. Trying to work out what would be better in the short or long term. I was considering kicking the Weapon out and moving Jervis up to that tier, where I think she will do better, but I left the smaller /cut back tree with the Jervis at tier 7 since I am still not entirely convinced myself as to what is best. Kelly is just a premium JKN, selecting a member of the class for premium duty. Javelin was my other choice. Apologies on that one about Gurkha. I was going to say Tribal and not L/M, and my brain was in absentia. Andy_Foulds, on 27 May 2017 - 11:04 AM, said: Damn NDA's... have fun with Gallant, shame you can't drop hints about how she's playing/developing! I'm conflicted over a Hood-representative Admiral class at T7 - including the very-overdue final refit - versus the F3... Being a greedy sod, I'd prefer to have both! :pYou might enjoy the 2/3xQF4" MkXVI, I'd be more concerned over the lack of torps & the 27kts maximum speed even at T3! I'll be honest, the differences between the DD branches in the "Final" (2092) & "Primary" (2018) trees are don't make a lot of sense to me; in the Leader sub-branch, Tay (V Leader) vanishing from the T8 to be replaced by Lightning (an increase in torpedo armament, but a drop in gun power)? Amazon moved from the main branch to the AA sub-branch, to be replaced by Venomous (similar armament, but a drop in speed/manouverability)? And Battleaxe similarly moved to the AA sub-branch, to be replaced by Jervis - which is being up-tiered with uprated... um... something - & Scorpion as the new T7, so an improvement there over T6 Electra only in HP & slightly better AA? These don't feel like good trades... Why not just have Ambuscade replace Amazon at T5, slot Lightning into T8 regular (where she makes a good contrast with Battleaxe), leave Tay as T8 Leader & Jervis as T7 regular? Your choice, of course... Yeah, that one confused me as well. Legion OR Gurkha as a T8 Premium, okay - that would be a contrast to both Akizuki AND Battleaxe. But why both T7 AND T8? And why Jervis at T7 (where she looks a better fit) & Kelly at T8? It could be that someone just has a grudge against her Captain... Well, perks of being a Supertester. The CCs will probably give an impression soon enough, though none of them usually compare to my opinion of ships. Well, the Admiral could be T7 regular (to my disgust), T7 premium (Why Hood), or T8 premium (dubious decision is dubious) at this point. I was thinking of switching the Anson & Prince of Wales tiers, but I am not sold on the Admiral being a tier 8 quite yet. Nah, Black Swan is OP with it's silly reload, so a faster and bigger ship is obviously tier 3. Stronk logic. Well, that is the choice between a ship that existed and would not be represented in the tech tree, but is not really a DL, against a DL that fits but did not exist. Switching Amazon across to the AA line is to toss a bone to the line that seems to have the comparatively 'weaker' ships. I'm not too keen on the JKN at tier 7, and would prefer them to be at tier 8. 10x 10km single fire torpedoes, 6 guns and I would presume a 360 traverse on the rear mount all work in the favour. And as a plus, I have Gallant. If that means anything. I'll let you find out. Scorpion would be a natural upgrade over Electra. Namely soft stat improvements, better torpedoes, better gun stats etc. - I see no reason she should not be tier 7. Ambuscade is a bit too similar to Amazon for my liking, and moving the mod V/W down to tier 4 is not appetising for me either. I also don't like the idea of having JKN & LM at separate tiers in a tech tree. And don't worry. I think I managed to confuse myself anyway. And I have nothing against the captain, I'll have you know!

I did an update thing. Mostly reshuffling the DDs, though they could still need a bit of work. The DD AA line merges into the regular DD line at tier 9 for simplicity. And I finally put updated premium ship lists in. There is a mistake, Legion & Gurkha should be split, and the former moved to tier 8, while the latter is a premium L/M class at tier 7 as opposed to Lightning at tier 8.

*looks accusingly at Kaiser* *casts a glance at the evermore buffed Ishizuchi* -
Not really. The Japanese cruisers are still very very good at burning ships to the ground, and are arguably better balanced than some of the other lines.

A true modern day tragedy. But also an aesthetic scene. I approve.

*slaps Selous with a large trout* (There are other ways to express my frustration, but this one will do). So we passed all the checkpoints to try and halt this from devolving into an insult match? To be honest, I would not be surprised at you being younger than me from you being so quick on the trigger of insults. But enough of that nonsense. That is not the point here. The Shona are not specific to Zimbabwe alone, hence the use of South Africa in the description. Southern part of the African continent, as shown above, the geographical term. Capiche? They don't apply to the whole continent, so I don't know how you picked that one up, since my sentence said "South Africa in reference to the whole continent". Quite self explanatory in my opinion. Poor understanding of English, or just my way of writing? Either way, you have missed the point completely.

Elimination Thread 4: Tier VIII
Trainspite replied to DDMafiaAssociateMember's topic in General Discussion
With so little ships left, I almost feel consigned to vote on personal preferences, rather than what effectively performs best on Warships.today. I've always thought of the point of the thread to find a mixture of what the community likes the most, and that usually boils down to the strongest ships anyway. Either way, I don't frequently vote because of the reasons above, and that I have played only the poor mans Atago from the list above.- 318 replies

Charles Martel is OP ! Dont quit the grind !
Trainspite replied to albinbino's topic in General Discussion
Huzzah, I am not alone in being vociferously critical of Martel's 10s reload. It's basically what Saint Louis should have to make her different from Martel, since the latter can manage just fine with a 12s reload with 9 competitive guns, as she has no flaws to affect her too much. -
South of the continent of Africa. Either referring to south of the continent, or the southernmost points of said continent (for an alternative description since the same wording can refer to both). Please tell me you understand the concept of the four points of a compass, and that you are able to describe a continent or landmass in respective to said points. In this case, the south of the continent of Africa, as opposed to North Africa, West or East Africa. Like East/West Europe. The Mashona people, are not in the country of South Africa, but are in South Africa in reference to the whole continent, which is what the description of the badge is referring to.

Elimination Thread 4: Tier VIII
Trainspite replied to DDMafiaAssociateMember's topic in General Discussion
Nah not really. Best ship can be interpreted as best balanced right? Sure, OP / Strong ships deserve some credit, but I'll keep it back for some good ships. After-all, I vote for what I like, and while I have never got Benson, I know the playstyle from... other USN DDs. In other threads, I voted for ships like Yorck because I believe they are good, but not necessarily better than others. I'm more just going against the tide of upvotes for Kutuzov anyway. I know Atago is painfully similar in situation, but I'm livening it up a bit. Plus if it came to it, I would prefer Atago over Kutuzov anyway. And I know Kutuzov would be superior to Chapayev, but still quite unremarkable when compared to some of the other ships around. And Atago winning... well, Kutuzov is on a roll, so I am not putting it as done yet...- 318 replies

Well I be damned. *Insert "Of happenings" or "And then the winged hussars arrived" here. Still sitting on a half complete collection as the game did not give me 2 more cruiser kills and no games with over 5 citadels in 3 hours. It was tragic.

Benson: 10 + 1 = 11 - Aside from Shokaku, the only one that is not made OP by an unnecessary buff (HP repair, Smoke or Secondaries).Atago: 45Mikhail Kutuzov: 41 -3 = 38 - Let's face it, this would be unremarkable if there was no unnecessary smoke. Tirpitz : 17Shōkaku (2/2/2): 25- 318 replies

Maybe it refers to people from the south of the continent of Africa. Just a thought.

I had Piorun instensifies. The Polska was stronk. I have had all 3 air squadron badges since early on, but am still only half way through. Subject to time limits. Also going to register the complaint that Nofolk, the first I received has a green background instead of a red one. Never seen that before, so at the moment I am claiming historically inaccurate.

I would prefer Hood as built over rebuilt in terms of looks, but for ships that received a QA Mansion, they don't look too bad. Suits Warspite fairly well, but I am just used to them like that. The QEs were certainly handsome ships either side of the rebuilds.

Yeah, I should stop saying that and actually get on with writing up a proposal of detailed stats or so. I'm a little interested to see what Emerald could do with IFHE, since I dug my Omaha out of retirement today and put IFHE on the captain, promptly racking up a respectable score by peppering 2 Hood's & a Kongo. Welp, Gallant do as Gallant does. (Yeah, someone now has the ship and has to keep schtum on it). Well, since I slated Hood as a regular, I am just going to be stubborn and not buy her regardless. Even if she was a thoroughly decent ship in the end and puts those that wanted her at tier 6 to shame. Knowing that Hood is only a premium over a regular to make some money annoys me, given it is at the expense of the much beloved RN BC tree. I have seen people complete the collection part of the campaign minus Hood already, and it seems relatively easy to progress along, though I am not too enthused by getting a free Bismarck. Regular ships are not that much of a reward pour moi. Nah, I have played Okhotnik since then, and the new IJN DDs were only a month or two beforehand. So while I would expect some improvement over the older ships, the fact that she is first chimes something for me. My stats do display the same patterns with Omaha vs Bertin, given I had 65k average with Bertin (12s) compared to Omaha lounging around at 46k with Konigsberg. Furutaka is more recent with 48k. Kirov is even more recent, but hated, and stays at 38k because I am not too keen on cruisers that don't turn that well. Nah, Hunt class would be better. Those rapid firing 4" can really do a number on targets, which is why I rate ships armed with them fairly highly, like me wishing for Manxman at tier 4 with a speed boost.

Hood is in her 1940 configuration. She looks similar, but she is missing her nice looking 5.5" secondaries to be truly 'dreadnought' era.
