I put hours on writing a review of every single Japanese premium ship, complete with some historical facts and some meme-filled visuals, after getting out of my way to play 100 battles in every single one of them.
It's 75% done, although I haven't worked on it for more than a year for different reasons.
I wanted to post it here and was about to resume work, but I guess I can completely thrash it now.
Good thing I didn't start on my very detailed article on the Mogami or the Japanese light cruisers. No need to bother anymore.
I won't go to discord, and I hate reddit.
I was starting to get comfortable in there with all of you, having some good times.
But I guess this is it.
This is it for this forum.
And this probably will soon be it for the game itself.
Farewell.

Companies who are focused on 'making good games' and who listen those '5%' will most certainly die.
Just keep in mind that World of Tanks has been going since 2009 and earlier.
Game will die if:1. It stops innovating new things
2. If it starts relying on 'Flamutards' who think that 'CV is bad because because'
Majority of players everywhere do not have time to play more than 1h on average. They do not care about becoming 60% winrate players and they never will.
Those players are also the richest portion of the populace that keep this game afloat.
Remember: Those players who are 40+ and play 1h / day are THE MOST important players and it is THEIR OPINION that matters the most.I gave you examples of extremely successfull companies focused on making good games rather than pandering to this or that playerbase, and your answer?
"Oh no they won't [strive and be remembered]"
Maybe I'm underestimating the potential of companies with short-term time preferences, like WG, but you are just rejecting the reality that lies right under your eyes.
Nintendo is notorious for its relationship with their players, but they make billions just because they make fantastic games.
Players that aren't very invested or good at the game generally don't really know what's good or bad, what's balanced or broken. Giving them what they want won't make your game good.
People who spend dozens of hours every week on it, know everything about the game mechanics, and perform very well, have a better grasp on balance and quality. You shouldn't blindly give them what they want either, but if you ignore them you're sure to make bad decisions.
Again, your strategy might pay off in the short run, but long term you'll end up with a game that is just bad. And people don't want to play bad games, and won't trust a company that makes them.
Is your inspiration in the game company just to make tons of money? Don't you care about making quality products?
If so, that is just sad.
Oh, and "Flamutards"? Cringe, man.

Nobody cares what they think, and nobody will ever care what they thinkIgnore the opinion of players who are extremely invested in the game, and know the ins and outs of its mechanics, sometimes better than the devs themselves.
Instead, pander to the average potato that isn't too invested in the game, and wouldn't really mind if the company would die tomorrow.
Because it's easier and allows for a quick cash-grab.
I really like this game because I find most of its game mechanics fun. But WG's greediness is slowly ruining the game, and will make me someday (soon I think) leave entirely, with mitigated memories of the game, and no intention of ever playing a WG game ever again.
In contrast, other companies like Valve and Nintendo make good games after good games.
I can almost buy a Nintendo game blindfolded, knowing I won't be disapointed.
And despite quitting TF2 years ago (one can only play a game so long before getting bored), I'm remembering my time there positively, I am keeping up with the game's updates, and am considering more and more getting back to it.
I would very quickly get in a sequel to TF2, if it ever comes out, just like I sunk a month's salary into VR (got the Valve Index and a new GPU) just to play HL Alyx, without looking much at the trailers.
(The game was fantastic, although in retrospect putting so much money to get VR wasn't too wise a decision. No regret, though.)
WG will die because of their greed and be forgotten, probably just like the company you work at.
Companies that focus on just making good games will strive and be remembered for a long time.

I had to hit a Marceau with three Shima torps recently in ranked to sink him from full HP (23.8k alpha each).
Today in brawl three Iwami torpedoes did 30k to a JB (20k alpha each).
But then I take one Shima torp in a Shimakaze (with SE of course) and I'm sunk from full HP.
Except when I live with a few thousands HP left.
I see the point of the mechanics and understand how it works, but it sometimes feel unfair and inconsistent.
You land a torpedo on a potato DD sitting in smoke? Spin the wheel to know wether you removed half his HP or all of it!
Each ship having their own repartition of HP in their compartiments, AND the data being unavailable doesn't help.
"I'm not sure I can dodge this torpedo. If I try, I might fail and take it on the nose and sink, but I can also deliberatly tank it on the midsection and survive. Or the opposite. I don't know because this info is hidden!"
We have to keep up with dozens of new ships added each year, with their own gimmicks and consumables.
Does this one have hydro, radar, planes? What's the range, what's the duration? Where can I overmatch it, where can my HE penetrate? Does it have torpedoes, are they deep water? etc etc
But we have to keep up with information we can only guess as well.
It's getting tiresome. It's nothing compared to the addition of submarines (for example), but it doesn't help.
Anyway, I'll stop ranting. The point is:
Yeah, sometimes I really dislike the saturation mechanic too.

Took my AA-built Shimanto to spite the CVs.
Facing double Concord Bridge.
Traversing a mine field in a Shimanto takes so much attention that it's extremely difficult to stay aware of the opponents shooting at you or the planes dropping you.
And Shimanto has ship ASW, which is supposed to be better against mine fields than plane ASW. It takes at least three full drops to clear a field, even with help from the team.
Plainly bad design.

Fairly nice first roll. Tempting, but do I really need it?
I gave in. They're doubloons from ranked, so they were "free"! Right...?
Quit while you're ahead, I say!
No ship from the Santa container, and an Exeter from the tier V ship container.
I could have bought the 25 depot tokens for 4.90, and gamble with these santa containers alongside my 10 leftover tokens, but I can get a small loaf of bread and four chocolate croissants at the bakery for that price.
And right now I'm hungry.
Even when you have good odds at this virtual slot machines, the gains are still questionable.

All four of their DDs sunk within 3 minutes.
Our Chkalov got sniped by their Colossus, only loss on our side.
A pathetic match, good thing it ended when they reached 0 point.

Same energy.
Every action should be taken to keep these kinds of griefers out of the game.
If they can get their way without any repercussion, then they'll keep griefing.
And negativity breeds negativity. This behaviour will keep on multiplying.
So no, I won't go back to port and play the next game knowing that someone is griefing 5 people, that I could have done something about it, but didn't.
Just sent a ticket to WG about a Venezia that, 3 minutes in the battle, gave up and sailed in a corner behind the whole team, because "there was no hope".
I don't trust the system to do much against him, but at least I'm trying.

You broke the game rules (and probably got away with it).
:edit:
Did you get any penalty for breaking the games rules ? I'm curious.
(Since another forum member openly stated to breaking game rules and getting away with it.)
So you'd rather see the reds sail around in circle for 5 minutes searching for a griefer hiding in a corner, knowing well that they are going to win the match no matter what?
Breaking the rules was the morally right thing to do there.
This exact scenario happens rarely, but every time reporting the griefer's or afk ship's location has been answered with thanks and compliments in my experience.
And I precise again: when he is the last one alive, openly NOT playing the game, and the results are decided.
It's not a case of a ship hiding waiting for the points to tick to 1000 or the timer to run out with the points in favour of his team.
It's someone openly wanting to waste everyone's time out of spite, and openly stating so.
I'm not sure if it was a one-off thing or something's changed in the playerbase.

I had to read it several times, but my understanding is that, when buying ships for doubloons in the armory:
-we will be able to "give away" some of our tier V-X premium ships
-each ship we give away will have a certain value, with rare ships and high tier ones having a higher value
-we only have to pay the difference between the the ships given away and the one bought, if there is any
-if we give away ships that have an higher value than the one we buy, the value is lost
-the ships available for purchase will probably be the ones currently in the armory
Unless they add rare ships in the armory, we won't be able to buy Musashi or Missouri or Kamikaze only using our port queens we never played.
The good thing is that, for example, let's say you got unlucky and got a tier 8 CV in a container (who in their right mind would play that). You could get a better ship, like Weimar, in exchange of that CV, and maybe a couple of low tier port queens like Yahagi or Krasny Krym.
I wish they'd implement a system similar to Steam's community market or its trade system, but it's actually not too bad an idea from WG.
All these crappy ships collecting dust in port can be used for something.
And then we will be able to get them again from SCs and Santa crates.

This is something from update 12.4, but you made the notifications way too large.
Now if I want to open my containers for example, I have to wait for all the notifications to disappear. Before I could still click on the side to open containers.
The tab completely covers details about the ship, economic bonuses and the captain.
After all these weeks I still find this very annoying.
You didn't improve the notifications at all, and they were relatively fine.
I don't get any info about karma either.
It tells me "You were complimented/reported", but not how many points are gained or lost. With the notification not appearing when only one point of karma is lost, it's a bit more difficult to keep track of how much we win/lose.
This is a straight downgrade.
Of course there's no way to customize this, and there's no mod for it either.
After several years developing this game and decades of game UI history, one would think you'd figure something acceptable.

My hypothesis is that these players don't know how to survive being targeted. Dodging shells, angling, going dark, not overextending, avoiding torpedoes etc: none of these things they know how to do, and they die quickly.
Instead of learning, they do the only other thing they can think about: sit in the back and avoid all danger.
Sprinkle in some "no support idiot teamates" and remove any self-awareness, and these people might act out of spite, too.
"I do all the right thing but I die because the others suck, so I'm not gonna try anymore and have MY fun."
Possibly the thought process of many CV players, too.
I had one of these today in a DD: he complained about getting no support (despite receiving support from everyone near him), so he sailed all the way to the border, then alongside it across the whole map, then hid behind an island.
He was the last one alive in a match 100% lost for us, so I gave away his location to the opposing team so they could finish the match faster, and so they reported me for "being toxic".
Go figure.
For our sanity's sake, I think we should avoid thinking too much about these people...
WoWs has many nutcases, like all online games.
At least they're not as influencial as this psychopath.
(Long video so I'll resume it: in World of Warcraft hardcore, when you die you lose everything forever, including your character. A player joined a guild, a group of more than 20 players, played with them for a whole year and gained their trust, possibly spent several hundreds of hours on his character, only to get in a very specific setup against a strong enemy so that this enemy can one-shot almost every single member of the guild, thus making them lose everything.
He spent several hundreds of hours of his life and befriended a whole group of players, only to grief them in the end.)

When it comes to camouflage, when they stray from historical accuracy, more often than not the art department has always created ugly and tacky camos.
Most consumable ones are eye-melting.
I prefer the "boring" look of solid gray paint and rust over the mismatched collection of cyberpunk, giant octopus and scorpions, and other post-apocalyptic themed abominations.
At least they didn't slap anime girls on the side of a ship's hull. Urgh...
We do have the Isoroku camo for Harekaze, though... A cat is fine, too?
Good thing we can hide them or just mod the game.

Tsurugi is quite similar to Daisen, but with six 458mm guns and Asashio torpedoes, and better concealment, and better turning radius.
Are they gonna give her the Hizen treatment: release a ship in the dockyard, then some time later release another based on it, but better, and for ressources or doubloons?
I don't mind a better Daisen though, I already like that ship.
Tusrugi is fitted with double 140mm guns in a turret for secondaries.
Yes, these 140mm guns aren't casemate ones like on every other BB, they're turrets like the ones found on Yuubari.
That's... interesting...
The torpedoes are protected under the deck, which is always a nice little bonus, and are identical to Asashio's if not for their 15km range and longer reload speed.
We'll see what their firing angles are.
That too is... interesting...
(Oh look! Yet another tier IX premium Japanese BB!)
The 410mm on Yumihari have Izumo's base speed on the AP at 870m/s, but with a low alpha of 12k, while the HE is the same as Hizen.
We will need the other characteristics of this AP, penetration and drag coefficient, but if she has Izumo's balistics with 2.2 sigma and the ability to reduce the dispersion by 20% at the press of a button, we're looking at quite the spicy guns for a tier 8, despite the low alpha.
Not much to add to Adatara and Bungo (what a name...).
The 458mm guns however:
First, are a bit of a travesty. Give us 460mm guns these are Japanese REEEEE.
The HE looks identical to Yamato's so far.
The AP however, while having lower alpha at 13 500, has a high initial speed of 860m/s, only 10m/s slower than Izumo's 410s.
Do we have to expect these 458mm (urgh) guns to be basically like Izumo's, but with even more overmatch and better accuracy?
Overmatching 32mm of armour is nice, being able to land your shells is great too...
Oh, and the turrets actually turn, with a traverse time of "only" 45 seconds.
I too wish they'd give us a full line and 460mm guns (or scrap that entirely and stick with 410m) but I see some potential in that line.

Hyuuga is quite the powerhouse. I don't know about three others, but picking her wouldn't be a mistake.

Kikaku's smoke screen looks pretty cool.
3 charges of an average-sized smoke screen that lasts 45 seconds.
A new addition that doesn't look totally broken and that encourages teamplay? Did they hire new developers that know what they're doing?
It even looks good graphically.
As for the mine fields...
It's good that it takes that long to activate, but covering such a large area for 4 minutes with hard hitting mines that you can't see?
Area denial, punishing pushes, having a big impact on your opponents' movement, doing potentially substantial damage, all at the press of one button.
Isn't that textbook bad game design.
It doesn't even look good, it's just a circle on the sea. That's lame.
Kikaku's smoke screen might be the first good thing they did with carriers in a long while, if they ever did a good thing with them.
Too bad they're developing in parallel even more BS.

This first sprint I ranked out in 14 victories, I had to play on qualification battle to get that last reward.
I don't remember if I lost a match.
Anyway, no need to lose on purpose. It's impossible to miss out on a reward.
-
Different MM that can sometimes be more interesting depending on your playstyle and ship of preference.
6v6 at tier 8 is Kii time for me. Tier 10 with CVs and submarines is sleep time however.
You know, fun?
Little by little you accumulate some nice ressources: steel, doubloons, and whatever you can get in the containers.
Ranked is enough to get a premium from the BP or dockyard a couple times per year without having to open your wallet.
You should play ranked for itself, a different game mode that can be fun, and take the rewards as an extra.
If you're only playing for the rewards, you're better off getting a part time job at Mc Donald for a week or two and go ham in the premium shop. It will save you a lot of time.

Out of curiosity I played Hakuryu.
I ended up doing a reasonable 210k, but God was I bored.
I wouldn't recommend it.
-
I like it.
It's a bit like playing an operation, but more dynamic. You don't always have the same ship appear at the same spot and do the same thing.
You still have potato teamates that will do their best to lose, but here you can actually turn things around.
Like in this match:
It's not revolutionary, but it's a neat mode for this summer.
I'm gonna spend most of my time chilling in there this update, I think.

I do have my gripes with the playerbase, too.
Some failed to realise that it's a team-oriented game. Ok, you're "having fun", but you're playing with 23 other people there.
It's OK to not realise when you're being a detriment to everyone around you, it's another thing to refuse to see it or even care.
"I don't care, I'm just having fun."
Similarly, some players don't want to question themselves. After hundreds or thousands of battles, they keep making the same rookie mistakes, and even sometimes blame the others.
I'm sorry love, but there's so much support I can give you to compensate for your mistakes.
Finally, at the end of the day, as much as WG is to blame for their own decisions, no one is forcing you to click "Battle!" with a submarine or super CV selected.
It's all fine and well to hate on WG and their decisions, it's the right thing to do, but the playerbase sure isn't made of innocent angels.

We have many plagues in the game:
-CVs
-submarines
-HE spammers
-Russian AP
-torpedo destroyers that can "easily" dev strike you from stealth with no counterplay
-radar
-hydro
-ultra strong Russian armour on BBs and super cruisers
-secondaries
-ships like Zaou because they can spam HE from afar and kite and that's super easy to do but I won't do it because I'm not a scrub like you
Contrast that with weak things:
-CVs
-submarines
-CLs (that rely on their HE)
-Japanese 410mm
-torpedo destroyers
-russian super cruisers and their long fire burning time
-russian BBs and their limited number of DCPs
-secondaries
-ships like Zaou because all they can do is spam HE from afar and kite and it's too hard for me to do and totally ineffective anyway
The community is constantly pointing the game's flaws at WG, but they do nothing to fix it!
Why isn't WG listening to the players?!?

This is a great moment to play DDs in convoy, with all these BBs.
Not pictured: 16k damage on a fifth transport, and 18k spotting on them in total (out of 157k).
A shame I only had a grey credit booster.
Replay here.

Nowhere.
I was thinking about quitting sometimes in 2024, but I guess I'll stop playing by the end of the year.
I'm getting tired of getting spat on by WG.
