hololive production Commanders in World of Warships
Viridem replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
There's this old thread on the NA server: https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/106191-what-is-the-average-age-of-our-playerbase/ But with only 813 votes, more than 6 years ago. Plus, I'd wager that people who visit forums might be a bit older. I think younger generations prefer using discord or reddit. Don't quote me on that though. Still, we see that more than a third is 30 years old or younger. The fanbase for hololive is 35 years old or younger, and has a lot of money to spend. Hololive fans and the WoWs playerbase overlap enough for WG to make loads of cash. -
hololive production Commanders in World of Warships
Viridem replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Great implementation. Even after removing all my mods, I still have no idea which one is which. I suppose Fubuki on the left, Botan on the right? EDIT: Botan was on the left, as seen on this screenshot I stole on the NA server -
Supercontainer changes - Closed test 12.4 (DB 442)

Oh yes I remember now, it's indeed how it seems to work. I forgot. But yes, I don't think it changes dramatically your conclusion. I was just nitpicking a bit -

I was kind of hesitating to buy Marine or Botan (I already have Fubuki), but the voice lines didn't click with me. I mean, I don't even watch Hololive. Being able to preview (pre-hear) the voice lines is a good addition! I guess I'll get Botan from the mission. It's only a 6 points captain, but we get new voice lines. It's nice. Still, 1500 doubloons is a bit expensive... -
Supercontainer changes - Closed test 12.4 (DB 442)
Viridem replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
The progress bar picks randomly between 0 and 100, and each regular container fills it by 1.5, try your luck by 4.5. So if you get 3 containers per day, wouldn't it rather take 23 days or 8 days, depending on the container you pick? Unless I missed something somewhere. I'm curious to know if each value between 0 and 100 has an equal chance to be chosen for the SC, or if there's another distribution method, as a side note. *Raise of hand. Well, not exactly every single day, nor very few tier X, but pretty close to that. Agreed. This dev blog made so much sense to me, and Iiked that they actually gave an explanation on why they changed the SCs, and removed the grey boosters. People always complain that WG sucks at communication and never listen to our feedback, but when they communicate and listen they still get angry comments... Not that I don't understand people getting angry: one arguably mediocre source of ressources got nerfed for many players. But yeah, someone with 100 tier X can get easily more than 10k doubloons very quickly just by playing the game with the current SCs. And with that system they added last year (I think) that allows you to get rewards from ships without playing them, it's very easy and quick. And let's not forget Christmas... For example, I got every premium ship I want and am mostly done with grinding stuff, and the doubloons I get from ranked etc are enough to keep up with the new releases I'm interested in. In other words: I'm not a paying customer anymore. I'm probably far from being the only one like this, so it makes so much sense to me that they nerf my "doubloons income". I don't like it, but I understand. Anyway. Good analysis. I like numbers. Just one thing I would add: When getting a SC from daily drops, you have to "remove" the ressources you would have gotten from the regular container that got replaced. So for example, let's say you always pick a coal container, which gives on average 520 coal. Currently a SC gives on average 1 500 coal, for a net gain of 980 coal over the regular container. The new SC gives on average 750 coal, for a net gain of 230 coal over a regular container. Not counting the other ressources you get from the coal containers... In that sense, net incomes for coal will be reduced long-term. Although I'm not quite sure if this bears much "meaning", as you'd need a lot of SCs to see this difference appear in any meaningful way, statistically speaking. Of course, for less regular players that only get a handful of them per year, it will still be widely dependant on chance. Some will get extremely lucky, some will get a bunch of signals and disapointment. -
Last time a desirable direct buy premium released?
Viridem replied to Nirkrae's topic in General Discussion
Malta back in november is as recent as I got. Not strictly a direct buy, but considering how easy it was to complete the BP, Tokachi. Iwami otherwise, last summer? Quite frankly, considering the huge number of ships currently available, it's less and less necessary for them to add new ones. I'd rather have them balance the current game, fix bugs, and make more interesting games modes with what's already in the game. With all the tech tree ships and ressource ships you can get by just playing normally, you can easily create a flotilla that will never get you bored for free, without the need to go after new ships. Personally, one premium that endured the test of time for me is Harekaze. I always come back to her, and with her in my port I don't feel the need for another premium DD for Japan. I don't care if WG never releases another premium DD, I have my fill. So I suppose, for WG to keep getting my money, they have to use these timed-event and random bundles tactics. It makes sense. (I haven't spent money in a while, so they're not too sucessfull with me...) -
Oh boy, next Dockyard phase requires 255K CXP per ship type...
Viridem replied to Flyks9's topic in General Discussion
With blue boosters, that's maybe 6 good games. You only need to finish 2 of these anyway, 1 if you manage to do that hard one at the bottom (2 300 base exp). There are some that are way more grindy further down. Like 54 citadels or destroyed ribbons in BBs, although you can do it in coop. 40k base exp will take quite a while to get, too... -
Japanese Sub Techtree Line - Is it being developed?
Viridem replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
38%? Man, what a horrible player, this couldn't be me... (I didn't have fun one bit) They will eventually come out. Probably not this year, but eventually. I hate submarines, but on the other hand I love everything Japanese navy... Nah, reading a book about them would be thousands times better. -
what is the point of the question at the end of the battle
Viridem replied to HMS_Britannia's topic in General Discussion
To try to give a charitable answer: I think WG records a certain set of data on these matches (like which ships are present, duration of matches etc) Then they compare the data between the different levels of satisfaction, trying to find statistical differences between them. For example, they might see that among the "very dissatisfied" answers, they find a much higher proportion of matches that ended in a landslide loss. From this, WG might interpret that players don't like losing without being given a chance to fight (duh), and they might or might not do something about it. They migth monitor the evolution of things as well. "Last year 45% of "very dissatisfied" answers were after a landslide loss, this year it was only 20%." This kind of thing. What data would they gather? I don't know. Do they even really do that? I'm not sure. Maybe they're just proding the level of satisfaction of the playerbase, without going any further. "We got 5% of "very satisfied" answers this year, a huge step up over last year's 4%. Clearly we did the right things!" Or maybe it's just some placebo for us, to give us the illusion that WG cares about our opinion, like others suggested. -
"Ackchyually the sky isn't blue and hairless cats exist". Took the bait, hook, line and sinker. It was nice having a conversation with you. Or rather, talking to a wall. Let's never do this again. "You Ignoring my Response does not mean it did not happen. This might be News to You. But just because You Cover your Eyes with Your Hands. Does not mean we cant See You..... " Ah, you are completely high. My bad. Have fun, I guess.
-
It must be hard to live your daily life needing data to know wether or not the sky is blue or cats have hairs. I have provided data for ranked. You totally ignored it. Not one single comment about it. If you're not going to answer when provided data, why should we keep doing it? But I think I'll quote your own data: Which is wrong for starters: St Vincent has 308k battles. And you're meant to tell use that submarines are played as much as any other ship, while showing us a BB that has been played more often than the most played submarine? 308k battles over 8 months, or 38.5k per month, against 201k battles in six months, or 33.5k per month. U-2501 is in competition against 2 other submarines. St Vincent is in competition with 19 other BBs, plus (in a way) tier IX and superships. You're trying to tell us that submarines are played as much as any other ship. Is that were true, your average match would have a roughly even split between BBs, cruisers, DDs and subs. Which is so far removed from the truth that it doesn't need data to be proven false. Just play a few games and look at the MM. If someone tells me the sky is green, I just lift up my nose and look at the sky and conclude "Yup, this person is either trolling me or is off his meds." I won't get a spectrometer out just to disprove your ridiculous claim. I know it wouldn't convince you anyway.
-
That is part of my point, yes, as I said. MM will always find BBs and cruisers to put in a match, almost always find DDs, but frequently find no sub, despite spreading submarines as much as possible by limiting them to one or two per match. There's almost always more DDs than submarines, and matches with no subs are much more frequent than matches with no DDs. That right there is all we need to see that submarines are played far less than any other ship (excluding CVs). Just play the game for a bit and trust your eyes. Stats can be twisted in many ways to make them tell your own truth, but it never holds up to looking at reality.
-
I'll go with the very pragmatic and instinctual approach: How many subs do you currently see in operations, brawl or clan battles? None, for obvious reasons. What class of ships do you see the less in ranked? Subs. What classes of ship do you see the less in randoms? Subs and CVs (not sure which one "wins") Since you see CVs in both operations and ranked, I think it's safe to assume that submarines are by far the less played ships in the game. Most random battles have 3-5 BBs and the same amount of cruisers (although they do seem a bit less popular, maybe one less on average?). DDs are a bit more weird with some matches without them, followed by matches with 4 of them. It's uncommon to have battles without them, though. But, battles without subs? It's quite frequent! And this despite MM limiting the number of subs in a match to a lower number than any surface ship. Matchmaking is spreading submarines players in more matches than surface ships, yet we see them less often. I don't think I have ever seen a battle with more subs than either BBs, CA/CLs or DDs. Wait, maybe a couple battles with one sub per side, but no DD, late at night when MM starts getting drunk. Then you see a 8v8 with two CVs per side, quit the game and go to bed. So it's common to see battles with no subs, and when there are subs in the battle, they are almost always outnumbered by other classes. But don't trust you lying eyes, guys! Submarines are played as much as any other ship! Let's look at the stats for ranked season 11 on wows numbers: Subs have a popularity of 11% at tier 8, 2.1% at tier 10 Note that this season, bronze and silver is tier 8-9, and gold is tier 10. So ideally we should consider the number of battles played in tier 8+9 together, but I didn't find the raw numbers, only proportions. It seems to me that people tend to pick tier 9 more often than tier 8, so logically that submarine popularity should be cut by more than half... Edit: I tried to look at how many people played submarines VS how many people played ranked, but the site doesn't seem to track when people have less played than 20 battles in the same ship... CVs are only slightly more popular. But yeah! Submarines are played as much as any other ship!

What will you be spending on for excess Pan-American Tokens?
Viridem replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I got all the packages for free XP, netting me huge amount of tokens and signals. I got Bolognesi, Jurua and then put everything else in signals. I already had Rio de Janeiro. There's a few camos from the container I'd like to have, but they are in the middle of hundreds of ones I don't want... -

If there's some 12v12 Mikasa action, I'm interested. -
I will be pedantic, but you forgot Yukikaze, which is only available during collabs with Azur Lane. It is functionally the same hull as Kagerou and Asashio, though. Harekaze II has 5km hydro, it's her main feature. While her HE dpm is very low, the large explosion radius of her 150mm shells and the combination of 5.4km concealment and 5k hydro makes her one of the best submarine hunters. Detection of submarine at periscope depth is even worse, as they always outspot all DDs, with the exception of Cachalot and I-56, which are outspotted by only a couple. Luckily hydro can detect submarine at periscope depth with their full range, instead of only 2km when the submarine is fully submerged. Which means that, as long as your hydro is available, Harekaze II might be the only DD that can potentially never be outspotted by a submarine. The only one, AND with a condition... So there is a tiny speck of light in the DD-submarine detection, but otherwise it is indeed yet another frustrating part of dealing with submarines. You get spotted by something in a DD? If it's a DD, any competent player should be able to roughly estimate which DD spots him and from where, in most situations. If it's a submarine, it's much more difficult to figure out its position. Is he ahead, left or right? Is he at surface or periscope depth (the worse part to figure out)? Did he just pop up right behind me at periscope depth? Anyway, yet more reasons why submarines are horrible, and why Harekaze II is truly a hidden gem. The ship being so rare and looked down upon, you end up outplaying so many players with that hydro. It's nice. You can use this website to help yourself with ship data: https://shiptool.st/ It's way better than looking up your ships one by one in game.

The only time I got a similar error was maybe 8 years ago when my GPU's fan failed and overheating caused games to crash after a while. My system was good at the time (R9 270X with i5 4460, my first build), but it was definitively at fault despite being relatively recent. (Interestingly enough, while it received several upgrades, it's still the same socket 1150 MOBO, and I can run recent games like HL Alyx on the Valve Index or Elden Ring with no issue.) Considering you're playing on a laptop, it's even more prone to overheating and other hardware failures. And let's not get into the software side of things. Nowadays I rarely get crashes in WoWs, and half of the time it's my internet connection. So check your system.

It feels dumbed down. Like how we put pictures instead of words on toys for infants. Maybe that's the strategy, because I swear sometimes it feels like I'm talking to little kids in chat.

Will you go for IJN BB Tier IX Daisen in WoWs v12.3 Dockyard? If yes - what will be your strategy for 5 Shipbuilding Phases that need to be bought?
Viridem replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Yes. I'll get the BP and buy the 2 remaining stages. I still have doubloons from ranked and containers, and there's nothing I'm interested in in development for now.- 69 replies

Great question. Flamu on his latest video (at the 30 minutes mark) was positive about this new mechanic, so we might still be able to purposefully and reliably beach our ships. And for Flamu to have something positive to say... But, like he said, it's possible it will cause issues on some maps. One can't make an omelet without breaking eggs, and we all know WG is a very messy cook!

That update was somehow taking pretty long, so I paused it. I couldn't launch the game, the "Play" button was greyed out and there was a message telling me I couldn't launch the game until it finished updating. Disabling the option to download updates in advance didn't solve the issue. Taking so long for a 360MB update seems like poor optimisation to me, and being blocked out of the game until it finishes installing stuff that is to be released in 48 hours is idiotic.
-
I am relatively hyped for Daisen, so that's nice. Going 40 knots in a BB? Sign me in! No other Japanese ship has been announced for this year yet. Maybe we won't get another one? We'll see. Update to Kure. I am stationned here, so that's nice too. (In game, not IRL, of course.) Tier IX brawl in BBs. Time to sail Iwami some more! I'm not into Hololive, but I did get Fubuki last time. She is adorable after all, although her voice lines can be a bit... hard on the ears. I'm pretty sure I got a few reports from people using national voiceover+... Maybe I'll get Amelia Watson? I don't know the other three. The WH 40K content might be one of the worst ripoffs WG has put out there, behind tech tree ships in early access for 20k doubloons. Fans of Japanese pop culture are notorious cash cows, but apparently they're nothing compared to Warhammer fans. And finally, the Japanese Lacquer camouflage is one of the few fantasy ones I enjoy. It feels a bit easy and lazy to reuse yet again this pattern, but I'm ok with it. A shame the perma camos are soooo expensive. :( I did buy a few at a "discount", for 300 doubloons each, but spending 3k or 4k on a single one? No way.

New line of Minelayers will come to the game

Can't wait to get into a battle in a tier VIII cruiser that was launched in 1934 (Mogami), and fight both a tier VIII cruiser launched in 1953 (this thing) AND an imaginary tier IX DD designed in 1917 (Jäger). Changes to Containers – Closed Test 12.4 (DB 435)
Viridem replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
My bad, somehow I read that SCs currently drop 10k coal with a 10% chance, instead of 15k with a 10% chance. The change is even worse than I thought, then. I will put a correction in my other posts about the coal.
