This is actually 'normal', the game zooms out once the timer reaches zero. Even trying to set the zoom level when you press 3 doesn't work, until after the timer reaches zero. So afaik, this is completely unchanged. Although personally, I would very much like this setting to apply as soon as the battle has finished loading..

Just checked this, getting the same result. Had to use task manager to actually close the client.

Can't say much about this map other than that it is so similar in setup to almost every other map, that I don't think it really adds much. More maps should mean more variety, but when every map is another riff on the same theme, then that doesn't work.

Three.. hours?? And you think the problem is on their side? Do you live in Antarctica or the ISS?? I never have to wait even nearly that long.. Pro-tip: download the patch on the evening the day before.

Hmm, have to say, I often play without music, so I don't know exactly what is new and what is old. But keys to go to the next song and such, could be useful, even with the option of listening to your own tracks.

Agreed. I think it should be something along the lines of: you are eligible to select one container, or one container available for collection, or somesuch. I also agree with what others have stated above, that the requirements are a bit steep. If you play a full day, sure, that is doable, but lots of people who have jobs and/or a social life will feel a bit left out and I am not sure that is a desired effect. People will either start grinding more, becoming frustrated and then disappointed in the rewards, meanwhile annoying their allies, or bots will become more prolific again, or people will feel left out. So.. 1000 (small reward), 5000, 10000 or 15000 would seem reasonable to me, so everyone can get the daily rewards without too much grinding. I think it might be a good thing they are connected to XP, so as long as you are useful to your team, in whatever way, you will be able to collect the spoils of war. I am also wondering if it would be good to have special rewards for the best player on a team, or for other achievements, available at least once a day. So top of your team: special bonus container, rare camos or something? Top of your team 5 times in a day: something really neat, perhaps including unlocking an achievement: top gun/team player/XP hog? I've been trying my luck with the random reward containers, but not sure that will work. From what I gather, they have a low rate of actually giving something special, so if you're aiming for a premium ship, you'll have to play until you're old and grey.. Meanwhile you're disappointed with the results. Of course, some of us are probably gamblers, so, who knows.. Overall, I think this is a marked improvement over: sink x ships, get x torp hits, do x amount of damage.. That said, I just had another thought: How about one reward a day for doing a good job in a specific class of ship? IE: destroyer: x amount of damage through spotting, x bases capped / cruiser: responded to request for support and obliterated enemy DD or CA / BB: gunned down enemy BB or CA / CV: intercepted enemy air strike or aircraft spotting friendly DD

British Accent Voice is Hilarious (Please Change it)

Yup. They definitely don't have the right flavour. They don't sound like naval men. The Russians sound like they are ordering Vodka in a bar.. by the bottle, of course.. -

Isn't he former RN? Think I've read that somewhere, but have never really heard him say anything along those lines in his vids. I would, in any case, definitely be interested in his take on these announcements. I'm sure he'd do a decent job. -

I have posted here repeatedly with the suggestion they make a contest out of it. I am positive, with so many players, that each language community has someone with both the chops and the tools to record all of this. I like playing with the national voices, because it is just silly to have an American yelling stuff on my RN or Japanese ships. But they all sound completely unconvincing, even when they do sound like native speakers, they don't sound like real officers. With all due respect to the people involved. BTW, are there a few (ex-) navy guys who can give us some good examples? -
Essex, Patch 5.12.: Victory with 156K damage and still loosing credits, WTF?
TheCinC replied to B010011A's topic in General Discussion
Well, not sure about that. Had a game today where we won, ended up 4th in my team, sinking 2 ships, did almost 100 k dmg, still lost credits, despite having premium. This might have something to do with the new spotting mechanism. If I recall correctly, overall economy hasn't changed. So now, when a DD spots a ship that a BB shoots at, the DD gets a chunk of the money, so BB gets less than it used to. They are trying to force BBs to fight more at closer range, which is fine by me in principle, but often enough makes no sense. A BB player can still do a lot more damage when it manages to survive, then when it is forced to close with multiple enemies and gets citadeled, torped, and burned to a crisp all at the same time. I agree that something needs to be done, but think that they need to look at the game modes themselves, and employ both the carrot and the stick, not just the stick.. -
Why do commanders forget they served on a previous ship?
TheCinC replied to Sander93's topic in General Discussion
Hmm, maybe he used the search instead of starting a new topic? Anyway, it is still a valid observation. Whenever I switch a captain between two ships, I have to spend money to retrain them, then often spend more money to respec them. Then when I want to switch the captain back to his original ship.. he can't find his way to the bridge.. -

TheCinC replied to Sander93's topic in General Discussion
Something something money.. I try to explain it by imagining the new captain stepping on board, missing a step, hitting his head.. Hilarity ensues.. -
I'll just refer to the topic linked in my sig.. Happy hunting!

I just did a forum search for this problem, because I had accidentally added to my paypal account, since I had forgotten I had it set up for direct debit, but did not want to leave the money there, wanted to use it for something. In another thread on this topic, I found out there is a page where you can enable Paypal and/or a bank card. You can do that here: https://eu.wargaming.net/shop/binding/ In my case, I did not use that page however, but managed to solve the problem in another way. I disabled the ability for Paypal to debit my bank account, then afterwards, everything worked like a charm. I hope either solution works for you guys, since the free additional doubloons are kinda nice.

HMS Duke of York (1940) - Tier VIII King George V class BB The real HMS Duke of York (1940) HMS Duke of York was the third battleship of the King George V (1939) class to be completed. The first Royal Navy battleships to be built after the Naval Holiday resulting from the Washington Treaty, they were also the only battleships to be affected by the reduction in calibre proposed by the British at the 1936 London Naval Conference. There was no time to convert the ships to 15 or 16 inch guns after this clause had been annulled. They had shot themselves in the foot, but limited the damage by getting very effective 14 inch guns, the most bang for their buck. The first three ships of this class all have their own claim to fame. HMS King George V helped to sink the infamous Bismarck. HMS Prince of Wales was present at the Battle of the Denmark Strait, while civilian personnel was still working on her to help with teething troubles affecting her brand new gun turrets. During this engagement she damaged Bismarck, while her bridge was hit, killing almost all of those present, with exception of its captain. As part of the ill-fated Force Z, which had been dispatched to Singapore without its carrier as it had run aground, HMS Prince of Wales, together with HMS Repulse, was later sunk by Japanese aircraft, while trying to interfere with Japanese landings in Malaya. You may know HMS Duke of York from the sinking of the Scharnhorst, with some help from HMS Belfast, among other ships. HMS Duke of York spent quite some time escorting the convoys to Murmansk, with the sinking of Scharnhorst as a result, so the developers in St. Petersburg may have some reason to be interested in her. King George V would also be a good candidate, but she will probably be the type ship. HMS Prince of Wales is at least as famous, but was sunk rather early in her career, and did not receive all the upgrades that the other ships all got. HMS Anson and HMS Howe, the other two ships of this class, are quite a bit less famous, even though both of them did their part for the war effort. Ships of this class were present in every theatre of the war, all four of the surviving members were at some point part of the British Pacific Fleet, HMS King George V and HMS Duke of York were both present in Tokyo Bay during the official surrender of Japan. They were in many ways the workhorses of the fleet. In WoWs Detailed version of her historical self, possibly as she appeared around Christmas 1943, when she engaged and sank Scharnhorst.. Speed: 28.3 knots HP pool: 65,500 Main armament: 2 x 4 and 1 x 2 14 inch Mk VII guns, with a range of somewhere between 20.5 and 21.0 km Secondary armament: 4 x 2 5.25 QF DP guns (on par with the US 127 mm secondaries, excellent against surface and air targets) No torpedo armament No spotting plane or fighter (this was removed sometime during the war, the later ships, IIRC, were not even fitted with them. Pros Excellent penetration and damage for its 14 inch guns due to superior British engineerink, as shown during HMS King George Vs engagement with Bismarck. Excellent accuracy thanks to superior British/US 1944 radar (need to check, but think I recently read the British switched to US made radar at this stage, at least for this class). Under difficult circumstances, HMS Prince of Wales got hits on Bismarck, while HMS Duke of York had several critical hits on Scharnhorst. Decent rate of fire for its main guns, but nothing to write home about. Excellent armour thanks to rigid adherence to the all-or-nothing principle and designing the ships to face 16 inch guns. Excellent secondaries, at least on par with the NC or Bismarck. Excellent close range AA thanks to its many radar controlled pompoms. Somewhat decent turret turning rate, thanks to improved British engineerink and liberal use of WD40 or whatever the British equivalent is. Cons Somewhat slow. Historically, these ships were very poor seaboats, so manoeuvrability would probably not be the best of its tier and top speed would be reduced in bad weather. Probably prone to run into islands as a result. No planes, so no range upgrade unless she is lucky enough to get a module that allows for it, but going by the figures on Wikipedia, the Bismarck class had slightly better range. Probably somewhat weak to torpedoes, as HMS Prince of Wales illustrated that these ships were highly dependent on running their engines for power and could have had better subdivision, which was fixed in the later HMS Vanguard, although both sides and bottom were fitted with protective measures. Firing straight ahead at 0o elevation leads to destruction of teak deck, making the low freeboard forward entirely pointless. Special abilities Stiff upper lip. Defiance in the face of overwhelming odds. Tot of rum. Maybe a nice historically accurate camo that gives extra captain XP, due to hundreds of years of the RN ruling the waves for Britons who never, never, never shall be slaves providing a bit of know how in this department. TDLR: HMS Duke of York played a major role during WW2, sinking Scharnhorst and being present at the surrender of Japan. She rightly deserves to become a premium and it would be great if she could be released, just like Torpitz, well in advance as a preview to the upcoming RN battleship tree and to satisfy the many RN fanboys with a penchant for BBs.

How to shoot into smoke without detection.
TheCinC replied to XDukenukemX's topic in General Discussion
Just to be sure.. Can anyone confirm that the bug where high tier German BB secondaries kept firing at unspotted targets has been dealt with? This was a real problem for DDs while hidden in smoke, that became very obvious while testing this patch and I haven't played enough games since it went live to be able to confirm for myself. It would be very sad if this problem was not taken care of before the patch went live, despite it being reported multiple times on EU forum alone. Then again, I haven't seen a topic on this since the patch went live, so I hope it was fixed. -
Been watching this topic for a few days, lots of constructive criticism here, nice to see that! Please allow me to add my own two cents.. I am worried too about what will change for the Japanese DDs.. Making all DDs more or less the same would be a bad choice. Let Japanese DDs have their stealth and better torps, increase their reload time if needed, or reduce the number of torpedoes per salvo if needed, but otherwise don't change the way they play too much. Let US have better torps than Russian/Soviet ships, while the latter have better guns. They all need their own flavour to thrive. The low detection range of Japanese DDs is the exact reason why I chose to grind up that entire branch in OBT (after having gotten as far as Montana in CBT, and despite being a huge battleship nut). That is the one advantage they have, but it is already useless whenever you have a good enemy CV in the game, or if you encounter a decent gun DD player, or if you are spotted by radar/hydro at a bad time. Japanese destroyers can't really fight back when spotted, they need to be able to run away quickly. The only way to solve this, IMHO, is manoeuvrability. Give all ships a modifier when enemy shells are incoming. The less they manoeuvre or change speed, between the moment the shots were fired and the moment the shells land, the higher the chance of a hit, the more they do, the smaller the chance of a hit. Increase that factor for cruisers and even more for DDs. It has always struck me as odd that a DD manoeuvring desperately could still be easily hit by enemy dive bombers and shells, while sometimes you just can't hit a ship that ran into an island, that is reversing slowly at best. Allow ships to maintain more of their speed while turning, depending on their class, more for DDs than for CAs, more for CAs than for BBs. Perhaps increase this factor for Japanese DDs, to allow them to escape a bit easier, as they are relatively vulnerable and have poor guns. If both of these steps are taken, cruisers, which are currently far too squishy IMHO, especially against battleships, have a slightly better chance of survival, while DDs have a much better chance of survival. This may sound bad to BB players, but neither should become an increased threat to BB players. In order to do that, a few steps need to be taken that I'm sure some will heartily disagree with, but I would recommend the following: Nerf the fire chance against BBs with light guns hard, AP damage with light guns at least a little. It makes no sense that a Khabarovsk or Zao can just stealth fire at a BB and set it on fire several times in a row, reducing it into a burning hulk very quickly, especially as it is not their main job anyway. This game is rock-paper-scissors, so that needs to be encouraged. Gun DDs should be out defending against enemy DDs, while cruisers should be out helping their own DDs and other cruisers. Neither one should be able to wipe the floor with a BB unsupported, especially not without the BB being able to fight back. Random shots into smoke are nice, but a smart gun DD player will move at least a bit and can do a terrific amount of damage, especially with fires. Neither gun DD or nor cruiser should be able to fire effectively consistently while at maximum range, especially not without even being spotted without using cover. Rewards for spotting damage should be included in the game ASAP, in order to encourage CVs and DDs to play their role as scouts. More and easy accessible team messages should further facilitate this. Radar and hydro should also not be an 'I win' button, they should just give a BB or CA a fighting chance when one on one against one or more enemy DDs. Radar range is pretty long and I wonder if that is right. About 7-8 km seems about right to me, that is still about the most practical range for even long range torps. Neither one should work through islands, nor should the proximity detection work that way, except at maybe 1 km or so. That way DDs can still hide even when radar or hydro is active, encouraging them to play smart and make use of the terrain even more. That said, I am very interested in the new Japanese DDs, some of them look like really interesting ships, and all are historical, which is always good in my book.. If they don't change things too much, or in the wrong direction, then I really look forward to playing them. More is almost always better, I think..

Proposal on how to handle BC/BB and CC/CA in Tech Tree for Germany nad Royal Navy
TheCinC replied to backoija's topic in Other
KGV, Lion 1938 and Vanguard all at tier VIII? Like! There was a huge debate about that in an earlier topic, KGV is vastly underestimated by some. But it would be blasphemous imho to say that the KGV was inferior to Bismarck. Bismarck and Tirpitz are very much overrated, everybody keeps repeating that they were the most powerful battleships of their time. Hogwash.- 19 replies

A Detailed look at Project 1047 Battlecruiser (Lert)
TheCinC replied to Trainspite's topic in Battleships
Hadn't seen this before, nice review! Do you have the book on this subject, by professor Teitler? It is quite interesting, especially the part where the Germans basically stalled them, they went to Italy, got a lot more information, then went back to the Germans, like: what the hell guys? Maybe we should not have ordered our AA guns in Germany either.. I also recall reading that fire control was pretty advanced for the time. She is very much a paper design though. Shipyards were incapable of building anything that big and there were doubts if they would be able to find enough crew for these ships. In order to have even one available at all times, they would have needed 3-4 ships.. Doubtful we will ever see her in game, but De Ruyter, surely.. There is a great book on that one too..- 67 replies

About the Arpeggio event and its future and continuation
TheCinC replied to Cmdr_Kouta's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure what is meant with question one and don't even want to think of that.. *shudders* Overall, I just want moar free stuff and ARP is kinda cool, so sure. I've seen the Anime, but haven't read the Manga, so won't get too worked up about stuff being canon. So the more, the merrier, I guess.. -
Agreed. Most of the comments on the PTS were mixed at best. I think the mode is entirely unsuitable for higher tiers, where the economy is bad anyway, and should wait until spotting rewards and other rewards for teamwork are implemented. I hope it gets a very low odd of appearing. Cyclones I like, I really don't see any problem with them, but a game mode that absolutely depends on teamwork.. Oh my.. Although it may barely work with a normal balance between the various classes.

Pssh, you ain't seen nothing yet.. Glad you liked it, you can tell I was immediately excited about this. Haven't had time to study the entire document yet, but will make the time later this week. It even helped me to track down two biographies, of the aforementioned Vian and of Cunningham. I did notice Tokyo Bay was mentioned, but not explicitly that they were there during the signing of the official surrender document.. I wonder if they were there, across the bay from USS Missouri, how they felt. That was the moment the war was truly over.. As for an archive that might be interested in this document, I can think of a few.. -National Archives, as they archive anything related to the Government and its branches, which the RN obviously qualifies for: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/contact/contactform.asp?id=1 -Imperial War Museum, which collects everything related to warfare, and has personal documents as well. This page lists an option for offering documents: http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/managing/collections-review/acquisitions -National Maritime Museum, which collects everything related to nautical subjects and has, for instance, the plans of RN warships: http://www.rmg.co.uk/work-services/contact Anyone of them might be very happy to have this document for their collection. This is assuming you are located in the UK, of course.. Happy to help, let me know if you have further questions!
