  1. But HMS Belfast doesn't have heal. Or torpedoes. You've got to sacrifice something in order to prevent the ships from becoming OP. HMS Perth could get the same deal.

    Dear Wargaming...

I've bought a lot of premium ships and even a few packages which included flags. But I have to say, I don't often fly those flags, I often find them ugly. Overall, I've mostly bought the cheapest packages, just the ship and a port slot. I think, for now, I will continue that policy. I am not interested in the inflated packages, including all kinds of stuff that I don't need and want. I might be interested, as a collector, to buy flags, but only at a reasonable cost. 2000 or even 1000 doubloons is waaay too expensive, imho.

    Dragon flags

Yup, if you can get the ugly Christmas camo, you can probably get these too. But I thought everyone got at least a few, for the anniversary?

    British AP Issue

I have played them, and can confirm, you can knock out modules. Just not as often as you do with HE, due to no area effect. Still, an interesting point. RN light cruisers (except HMS Belfast) can't set fires except with secondaries and have a harder time knocking out modules. I would like to know if this was taken into account. So far, I am succeeding in doing a decent amount of damage, having played several matches with Fiji (free XP FTW), but have had no luck, lost every single game.. A bit of extra module damage might just have turned the tide, who knows..

    Grinding for the King

Ok, so basically played a game or two with each ship, then free XP-ed my way to the next up to and including tier VII. Trying to hold off on getting the tier VIII as well. Very enjoyable ships and tier VI-VIII are (going to be) a blast!

    The RN is coming tomorrow!

The Brits are finally here in force! So far, some of my best games with cruisers.. damage wise, at least. Still getting used to them and mostly used free XP to get to tier VII. Tier VI and up are.. really something, although I even liked the tier I.. Having only AP has the advantage of eliminating the dreaded 'I accidentally the wrong ammo'..
  7. Good question, and sorry for not paying more attention to this topic, been pretty busy and haven't played much the past few weeks.. The answer is pretty simple: because it works due to game mechanics. WG wants us to fight at shorter ranges and at shorter ranges, so they have reduced the effective range of fire of all guns, big and small. At the same time, bow on, you have a decent chance of bouncing shells enough to survive at least for a bit, because enemy shells always arrive at a bad angle (that is, bad for the enemy, good for you). I am certainly not more than a mediocre player, I am often way too gung-ho, so I can't count the number of times that I ended up at the front of my team and had to slow down or even reverse and point my bow at the enemy and hope for the best. At least in a battleship, this is actually a viable tactic, if not the only tactic. The only other thing you can do, if you end up too far forward, is turn. But battleships are too slow, cruisers aren't much better either. If there are multiple enemies in front of you, turning will almost inevitably lead to you receiving a citadel or two. Pointing your bow towards the enemy and reversing means deflecting a large number of hits until the enemy finally flanks you, then you are toast. Of course, with DDs and CVs scouting ahead, this should not happen, as you should be aware of what you were getting into, if you were paying attention..

    Fix for the camouflages

This is some seriously impressive work and I hope it gets adopted, at least as part of the mod pack. Someone once posted a suggestion about being able to pick any camo and then select the bonuses separately. I would really like that to be implemented somehow. Some camos just look better, but make no sense to choose due to their bonuses.

    Grinding for the King

If I have the patience, I will grind this branch. If I lose patience, I will freeXP my way to tier VIII and call it a day.. But it will probably be a bit of both.. RN light cruiser branch might be the first that I will actually enjoy grinding. If this was RN BB line however, I would most likely not have the patience and just get me that KGV..

    The RN is coming tomorrow!

Finally. Also: Her Majesty's Subjects? Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II did not ascend the throne until well after World War Two, King George VI governed during those dark days.. And during World War One, her grandfather King George V was on the throne. Too bad we didn't get to test them on the PTS, but apparently they want to keep the best things to themselves until the last possible moment. FINALLY! *gets back to refreshing ye olde premium shoppe, eagerly anticipating HMS Belfast*

    Never Defend?

So true.. The average player just wants to shoot enemy ships, while not risking their own. I am still hoping they will create a game mode that will cater to that, instead of trying to 'occupy' a random area of sea. How do you even do that? You can't plant a flag in the middle of an ocean. This sea is MINE now! Be on your way! One of my pet peeves is that people go opposite sides of a map. More often than not, we end up unable to aid each other. This weekend, on PTS, we lost a match badly and I grumbled about it. Someone pointed out the opposing team HAD made it work. Game ended before I pointed out that in my experience, it is a risky strategy, that often doesn't pay off, that everything works at least part of the time, but why make it harder on yourself instead of trying to work together, as best as we can?

The Need For Activating Replays In Settings

It is not that big an effort to change the file and they have created a decent guide to do it, did so waaaaaay back in closed Beta.. So I don't think it is that big a deal, but they are working on implementing recordings as a standard feature. What I want is the ability to easily make a movie, if they include that, holy crap, I'll be impressed.

    Spotted, cannot work out how

Huh.. Clever girl! That Benson, as ships are most often referred to as girls.. Not a tactic I would have tried, but worth considering.. If you are going to be spotted anyway, why not sacrifice a bit of stealth for being able to spot and dish out the pain.. Now that I think of it.. I need to think this over.. Although I would probably mess it up if I tried..

    Fix for the camouflages

You jest, but were you aware that the Germans did this with Torpitz? http://www.bismarck-class.dk/tirpitz/gallery/galltirfittingout.html http://camoupedia.blogspot.nl/2013/02/models-by-jim-baumann-wolfgang-kring.html Can't find any larger pictures toot sweet, sorry.. Also, very much agreed, some of the default camouflages are just hideous and some of them I just refuse to use, I don't even care about the stats.. Some of the free promotional camouflages are equally horrible though, such as the Chrismas camouflage, it hurts my eyes and only use it in coop, when there are fewer people around to be impaired by it.. I am almost rid of all of them.. I think it was the GNB camouflages that looked really, really good, but alas.. those are gone.. Of course, the rather expensive permanent camoflages, even if some of them are nice AND historically correct, I just refuse to buy for such an obscene price. I can afford it, but considering what else I can do with my money, I think I can find better use for my hard earned cash.. Like saving up for HMS Belfast, or the next premium, or the one after that..
  15. Not today, but one that still has me waking up screaming.. well almost.. I was in my Montana, I think, probably one of my first games with her, and I followed a DD into his smokescreen, full health or probably close to it. I figured his smoke wouldn't last that long, that his torps were on cooldown, that Montana could take a few hits and that I was probably able to dodge at least a few torpedoes.. I was quickly proven to be very, very, VERY wrong, probably on all of these assumptions.

Am I the only one looking forward to the RN cruisers?

They've said the basically want each and every ship that ever existed in the game. I'm sure they meant: for as long as the game is economically viable, which I am assuming it is for now at least. Even Russia can't manage a full tree as there are no carriers, while the BB line will be problematic as well. Germany has at least one potential carrier, although that one will probably end up a premium and will certainly end up with a destroyer line as well. But that is about it. But France and Italy will be able to fill full branches for destroyers, cruisers and battleships at least up to tier VIII and I am pretty sure that they are up next, after the German, Russki/Soviet and RN trees. But yes, to me, those are the icing on the cake. As for someone suggesting that us fanboys don't know the US Navy ended up bigger than the RN, that certainly doesn't go for me, but then, it is my field after all.. Even so, as I've said, at least in the early years, the RN largely had sole control of all oceans and overall played a (major) role in every theatre of the war. That is not to any way diminish the contribution of the USN, but it is a fact that the USN did not participate in some of the most significant surface actions in the Atlantic and Mediterranean: -the USN did not participate in the hunt for Admiral Graf Spee -the USN did not participate the invasion of Norway -the USN did not participate in efforts to deal with surface raids by Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Hipper -the USN did not participate in the hunt for the Bismarck (a US aircrew did and the USN was on alert and would have ratted out the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen at the first chance they got). -the USN did not play a (major) role in the battle for the Mediterranean, although it did play a role in supporting the landing operations in North Africa -the USN did not participate in the Battle of the Barentsz Sea which ended up relegating most of the remaining surface combatants of the Kriegsmarine to a training role -the USN did not participate in the Battle of the North Cape Most often, even when the USN played a primary role, the RN was also present: -the fate of Force Z was an epilogue to the attack on Pearl Harbor, after that, the Japanese basically had free reign of the Pacific, Yamamoto got his chance to 'run wild' -the Battle of the Atlantic, the fight against the German U-boats, was a combined effort by the RN and the USN, with the RN obviously having much more at stake. The USN clandestinely helped out even before the US formally got involved in the war and the Lend/Lease deal helped keep Britain afloat when it needed all the help it could get -RN cruisers, together with the Dutch, played a role in the ill-fated defence of the Dutch East Indies -the British Pacific Fleet, with the French Richelieu, played a (relatively minor) role in the Pacific and elements of the BPF were present at the signing of the Japanese surrender So yeah, obviously, there are very valid historical reasons to want the RN in this game. If we include the navies of the various nations of the Empire as a whole, the contribution to the war effort becomes even larger. Looking at World War One, the RN wins hands down and the Russian/Soviet naval efforts in both World Wars are dwarfed by comparison to those of the RN. As has so often been said, it is not about the size, it is about what you do with it.. As for which was better, that is another matter entirely..

    HMS Belfast release date

There are review vids of HMS Belfast? \ How did I miss this, pretty sure I checked last weekend, but couldn't find any! But.. butt.. that means she will be here soon! *hyperventilates* I'll join you in testing if keyboard are able to withstand prolonged and repetitive pressing of the F5 key/the servers of ye olde premium shoppe!

    Please fix Bismarck premium camo

FYI: I posted about this before and this was communicated to the developers, I checked. Not sure it gets a high priority, but I do hope we will get an update where the permanent camouflage becomes the one that Bismarck had while working up in the Baltic. Interesting that a few pictures posted here seem to clearly show the turret tops to be painted in a darker colour. I had checked and been unable to find any confirmation that those turret tops were indeed dark at any point, not for Bismarck at least. But in any case, they certainly were not when they arrived in Norway and choosing a colour scheme halfway being painted over, is just odd. The scheme Bismarck had in the Baltic is much more striking, for a reasonable price, I might be willing to purchase it. But so far I have had very little luck with Bismarck and I sorely miss Torpitz's torps.. Moreover, I hate that she has a hull upgrade which is completely made up, so this is one more ship in the German BB branch that is very disappointing to me. So for me, the matter is a bit of a moot point.

There was a patch today, does anyone know what was in it? I am assuming a hotfix for the not-being-able-to-shut-down-bug? Hmm, server is offline now..

Not true, we got the ARP events earlier, for one thing. And premium ship releases are mostly within a week of each other.

Am I the only one looking forward to the RN cruisers?

Of course not, and it is also certainly not the case that only British people are looking forward to the RN. Without the RN, what adversary does the Kriegsmarine have? The Soviet Navy? Well, no, because its commanders were either shot or sent to the Gulag, and hardly any new ship has been built for it, plus its ships are icebound most of the year anyway, and even in the best of circumstances would have to deal with the Luftwaffe as well. No, with all due respect for the tremendous losses endured during World War Two, although largely at least partially self-inflicted, the USSR contributed relatively little to the war at sea. No doubt, they fought like lions wherever they could, naval infantry especially so, but that is about it. The French and Italian navies were both mostly concerned with the Mediterranean, and would have had to fight their way either past Gibraltar or Suez, which the RN successfully guarded during the entire war. The RN was also present in all theatres of the war, often in force, sometimes (almost) entirely alone. Ships like Blyskawica fought gallantly, but, like the Royal Dutch and Norwegian Navies, alongside the RN. The USN was mostly concerned with the Pacific, once it finally officially joined the war. So from a historical perspective, clearly, the RN is a big deal and deserves its place in this game. This is the first cruiser line I am actually looking forward to, and I hope they manage to balance things toot sweet, in a way that will be both unique and playable. HMS Belfast especially can not come soon enough!

    General Feedback

Seriously, I hope you finish downloading the patch before PTS ends.. I haven't had that kind of download speed since the last time I had a dial-up modem back in the previous century.. In any case, my point was, I didn't notice any issues with downloading the patch, although it does seem to go even faster if you download on the evening before the test server goes live. Often, you don't have to download (much) the next day and you are then good to go!

Been thinking about that one too. Still a better game mode than what we have now. Would also help combat the BB spam at lower tiers and give stock ships something to do..
