Am I missing something, or is there no such thing as an Arpeggio filter? Possibly because those ships don't exist on the PTS?
-
I think the 'dripping' sound was removed? I don't hear it any more. Can anyone confirm?
-
The weird noise in port when you select an option in the interface?Yeah, that'll get annoying really fast.

I've unlocked Tirpitz, but can select only one permanent camo, when there should be a new one, so two in total. Am I missing something? There is a new camo for the holidays, but that one is not permanent, but has to be resupplied.

Ah, okay, thanks! That makes.. kinda sense.. Not much point in doing that campaign then, already have Mikasa..
-
In my first game, noticed that when players use standard messages, they are played in their respective national language. Is this new? I don't have them enabled on live server. If so, I do like it! If not, then I still do and may turn them on again!

The first mission of one of the new campaigns requires me to play Mikasa, which is not available?

Speaking of premium ships, the patch notes explicitly refer to testing certain aspects of premium ships, like their improved appearance. Will this be one of the far too rare occasions where we actually have access to a few of the premium ships, or will this part of the testing only be done by the Supertesters? Oh, and, yay for the new London Port? I'm very curious. Although Portsmouth, Scapa Flow or the Firth of Forth would have been better, pretty sure no battleship or carrier ever visited London.

Immeasurable Frustration - The biggest loss streak I ever had at the worst time
TheCinC replied to ColdHeat's topic in General Discussion
Try a different ship, take a break, play another game for a bit.. Some of my best games in terms of sinking enemy ships and doing damage have ended in losses. I consider those to be a moral victory at least.. -
I'm sure the community will have some useful suggestions.. And I've posted this a few times before, but how about a contest, to become 'the voice of World of Warships' for your native language? We have tens of thousands of players, surely some of them will be able to do a convincing captain's voice?

I wonder if NATO will survive a Trump presidency, as he has said he would not automatically support US allies.. I could go on and on, but let's not, I want this place to be a distraction from this tragedy..

Public service message for the next few days: If you see me in game, but my ship isn't moving, I have not disconnected, I am in shock.. If you see me in game, and I one-hit you, it is not skill, it is not luck, but sheer frustration. I can only hope it won't be as bad as I think it will be. After all, George W. only presided over one 9/11 and two unwinnable wars..

Just popping in to say I can't wait for this ship or one of its sisters to get into the game. Like, right now.. Would help take my mind off things..

Putting crew on the deck would result in a different rating, which they don't want. Crew on deck implies people getting killed, meaning the game would no longer be suitable for children. Implementing something like that for the first few seconds of the game would not be worthwhile, even if it did not change the rating, which it still probably would.

Can anyone tell me if there are any other settings that need to be changed? Do you have to disable FXAA, or enable/disable something in the Nvidia settings itself? I'm noticing a bit of a difference, I think, but the deck railings don't seem to look any better and in close-up, the deck itself, looks really weird.

And that is why you should not drink and sail!

What Were Your Worst/Most Embarrassing Game Today?
TheCinC replied to Mandyxx's topic in General Discussion
Does it have to be today? Did a decent amount of damage with Dunkerque, then realised we were losing the game and we did lose the game.. If not then how about this one, from just after the RN cruisers came out.. Was in HMS Warspite, ironically stalking a RN cruiser that threatened one of our two caps. Together with my teammates, got her to about 4 K HP, and she was the only ship on that side, so decided to make sure we took her out. Cruiser moves behind an island, I move on the other side, to take her out with one salvo at most.. Cruiser pops up, waaaaaay too close, shoot her and sink her, than die as my WASD hack fails me and most of its torps hit me and reduce me from (almost) full HP to nothing in a second.. In hindsight, I should have just moved away and then taken the shot from safe distance. -
It takes a second or two for all torpedoes in a spread to be launched. If you die during that interval, they ALL count as not successfully launched. That is just the way the game works.

Is there a new mod which reveals position in smoke?
TheCinC replied to Shaka_D's topic in General Discussion
Only things I can think of: -Blind luck on their side/bad luck on your side, they just popped a few shells into the smoke and got lucky. -Were you spotted and almost stopped when you smoked up? Then it is not hard to fire a few shots next to where you were last spotted and hit you, even if you (slowly) move around. -How big an area did you smoke? If you pop smoke while not moving (much) they can target the smoke cloud dead centre and have a reasonable chance of hitting you. I get hit in smoke quite often, sometimes by torpedoes launched ages ago, just my luck, I guess.. -
Wait.. What??? I don't even.. For reals? Well over 4,000 games here, if you include CBT and I have NEVER had this happen to me, never mind three times in a row.. Sounds like the absolute worst kind of luck to me..

Team, please don't go opposite sides of the map, play your role, and other tips
TheCinC replied to TheCinC's topic in General Guides
When you smoke is up to you. Friendlies often don't hide in your smoke anyway and when they do, they are often torped as a result. But a low HP BB that needs a little time to repair they could be very grateful if you smoke it up, but if you have time, offer to lay smoke in chat (we need some kind of quick message thingy for things like that). That way, the BB can slow down a bit and not run out of the smoke as soon as you lay it down. In fact, in RN light cruisers, I often run out of my own smoke and have to back pedal while under fire.. See also the pointers in the OP, don't smoke up too soon, as you will obscure everyone's vision of the enemy. I've had matches where the instant the enemy was spotted, smoke went up on both sides and we no longer saw each other, so we had nothing to do.. And make sure you are safe too, as a live DD is a good DD, a sunk DD is no longer of use to the team, no matter how much damage it did do until then. In any case, you are NOT a lone wolf! You scout, you spot, you launch (sneak) torpedo attacks on enemy ships, if you're a gun DD you take on enemy DDs and whittle down bigger foes while trying to avoid enemy fire.. At least, stay in range of one or more other DDs and at least one or two cruisers. Don't go too far ahead, outside of effective range, as your team won't be able to support you. If you get caught by an enemy DD, CA or CV, you could die very swiftly if you are by yourself, no matter if you have smoke. Enemy cruisers and battleships can have hydro or radar and make your life miserable, while they will torp or shoot into smoke whenever they see it. If you have backup, you allies will draw some of the enemy fire/shoot at enemies engaging you, if your team is worth its salt.. -
It is a stated goal and they've never abandoned that goal, they just ran into problems and have pushed back the deadline. Maybe next year. The advantage for them is simple: they don't care what you spend your money on, as long as it is with them! If making it easier to switch games gets you playing an hour or two of WoT or even WoWp, instead of some other game, or sleeping, or whatever, then that is a win for them.

Good to hear, and thanks for your evaluation!

Have you tried turning it off and on again? In all seriousness, I think the game hasn't realised yet that you bought more doubloons, that is the only thing I can come up with.. Logging off and back on will probably make the game see that something has changed and realize that you DO have the necessary doubloons. BTW, I am considering getting Anshan, is she worth it in your opinion?

The first comment is about a rather technical subject, of which I am not sure in what way WG has implemented it. They simulate armour penetration, but they have smoothed over quite a few things, so I for one am not so certain that immune zones really apply anywhere. Angling is probably much more important than distance. As for the second, I'd say that trying to achieve local superiority comes with supporting your teammates, but, yes, that IS one of the intended results. IMHO it is better to go A, B or B, C, instead of A, C as that will mean that if one of either groups gets into trouble, the other group will be hard pressed to move up and support the other group. More often than not, one group perishes without accomplishing much and the other is left fighting a superior force. The same goes when a DD tries to cap. If another DD goes with, as well as CA support a little behind, preferably in a position where they can hide behind islands if needed, while the BBs are even further behind, but well within effective range (well below maximum), then the instant an enemy DD pops up, it will be shot at by gun DDs and CAs alike, with the BBs taking care of any enemy CA that dares to interfere/switch to enemy battleships if those move to defend their cruiser(-s). It is ALL about 'consentration of force' and I would add conservation/preservation of force. On land, the Germans found that it was better to have a smaller concentrated force than a larger one spread over a large area. In naval warfare this is perhaps less well known, but obviously still true. For example, consider the massive numerical superiority of the Royal Navy, while still being unable to prevent the German naval-led invasion of Norway, with Hipper sinking the destroyer HMS Glowworm, although the latter tried to take Hipper down with her, by trying to ram, and the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau sinking the lone HMS Glorious, in both cases due to errors in judgement by the RN. HMS Glorious being allowed to return on her own to Scapa Flow in order to take part in a court-martial, which obviously could have waited and should not have resulted in a carrier being unescorted, while HMS Glowworm's commanding officer decided to follow a lone destroyer to find if it would lead to a larger enemy force. Things like this happen in WoWs on a regular basis, someone gets tunnel vision, goes mano-a-mano with a more powerful enemy, sinks and fails to seal the deal, if the enemy is a BB they just repair. Obviously working together and switching from target to target works really well. Some of my best games are those where teammates, myself included, indicate a particularly juicy target, such as a ship that is run aground or a DD that has suddenly popped up, everyone in range instantly switches target and the enemy is swiftly taken care of. Regarding the use of AP on CAs or even DDs and HE on BBs, that has probably been around since Beta. Sometimes DDs and CAs are hoping for a citadel and just switch to AP, but that should only be done at close range and preferably only against broadsiding cruisers. Battleships sometimes switch to HE out of frustration that their shells are bouncing off, or in the mistaken belief that fire damage is more effective. It isn't. One or two citadels can take out a cruiser or cripple a battleship and such damage can NOT be (or at least not fully) repaired, whereas fire damage can be (almost) fully repaired. I've successfully sank DDs with BB AP shells and RN light cruiser AP is reasonably effective against DDs, in part due to the fact that you can fire so many in rapid succession.\ In either case, just don't show your broadside, keep turning, and the enemy will probably not manage a citadel/start many fires.
