    [SPIKE]
  1. Established World of Tanks Clan Signal Spike has branched out into World of Warships and has now opened for recruitment. We are a silent clan with no teamspeak requirement, and have traditionally played for fun (random platoons, skirmishes and Tier VI Clan Wars), but we still expect a reasonable standard of play from recruits (to give you an idea our average WN8 on World of Tanks is over 1800 with a 55% WR, we're not violet stet-pedders but we're not tomatoes either). If you already have decent stats in World-of-Warships, and are looking for a clan which doesn't take itself too seriously (but still wants to win more than it loses) then we might be the clan for you. Alternatively if you're still new to WoWS (less than a thousand games) but nonetheless have good stats in World of Tanks we'll still look upon your application favourably as a number of our WoT members with new accounts in WoWS are in the same boat (same amphibious tank?). We're not looking for unicums, just enough common sense and gaming ability to either play properly already or learn to play properly. Basically if you can't find your rear-end even with both hands, GPS, a sextant and a navigational chart please don't bother to apply because I don't want to division with you... no offence. Incidentally, unlike other clans having a sense of humour in SPIKE is entirely optional... we have too many German players to make it a requirement (and now I'm in trouble with our WoT Clan Commander). If you have any questions, or want to join SPIKE WoWS, please post below. I'll get back to you forthwith.

Patch 0.5.10 and German BBs Incoming

You never played Tier 1 even when starting out? Okay, but since the change is presumably intended to protect novice players from seal-clubbing, and/or get them used to the game before they move up, then it's going to be a failure since all it does is get them clubbed even worse one tier higher and with less preparation for facing superior ships.

Patch 0.5.10 and German BBs Incoming

Well I didn't free xp the German Cruisers, I played them in co-op, but I forgive you for not realising what I'm up to. Seriously though, I still think it's not a good idea for newbies entering Tier 2 to get constantly thrown up against Tier 3 monsters without experience of fighting higher-tier ships first (Tier 1 versus Tier 2 is a fairer matchup so it wouldn't be such a shock). Imagine arriving at Tier 2 without ever facing ships with superior numbers of guns, or seeing any torpedoes whatsoever, then meeting the St. Louis, Bogatyr, Wakatake and Derzki.

Patch 0.5.10 and German BBs Incoming

I set myself a goal of playing 250 games in every ship and I'm still working my way through Tier 2 because I don't play a lot. It's really more a matter of being a bit weird than traditional seal clubbing. If you check my World of Tanks stats you'll see something very similar, loads of tanks with 250 games played (or 500 if it's British). So not ashamed... just a tad OCD maybe.

Patch 0.5.10 and German BBs Incoming

Surely the change to Tier 1 matchmaking will make things worse for novice players? Tier 1 ships are more competitive with Tier 2 than the latter is with Tier 3 so new players are going to zip through Tier 1 without learning anything whatsoever and then find themselves bottom tier every game getting absolutely hammered by a St. Louis or Bogatyr. If they're trying to deal with seal-clubbing why not simply have a system that puts anyone in Tier 1 below a certain number of games into a different pool of players in the matchmaking?

What Royal navy premiums do you want?

I agree with Agincourt. The seven turret arrangement is just so unusual and the fourteen 12" gun broadside would be hilarious.

This is ridiculous - sudden CBT end/Betaship

You mean apart from not knowing that the cut-off was in a few hours so you didn't bother playing that many games. Honestly just letting people know of the cut-off the day before would have meant anyone that checks the news daily wouldn't have missed out. Expecting people to check the WoWs news several times a day just in case isn't reasonable. Expecting them to check daily seems a tad fairer methinks. Any disagreement on that?

Hotpoint is a manufacturer of domestic appliances. It's why Hotpoint is my nickname that's the interesting bit.

I'm annoyed that I was motivated to be annoying, does that count? bismark121, on 25 June 2015 - 12:41 PM, said: I don't understand how you are making such a big fuss of this all that Arkansas qrants you is bragging rights it not a good ship at all really It's not about the Arkansas as such, it's about people getting things right so other people don't get... annoyed.

Well at least you've recognised that the way it's written is what led me to interpret it the way I did with the singular "ship" rather than plural "ships". Accuracy in text matters, it stops people like me getting annoyed (and it matters when you're firing a salvo too for that matter). As for the cut-off, like I said I'd rather mistakes were learned from than get the Arkansas so please give at least a days notice in future. Oh and my nickname refers to a refrigerator rather than a washing machine but you could have never known that.

You clearly didn't read my earlier posts. Firstly they announced the cut-off on the day of the cut-off not the day before. I purchased the ships and CBT access that very morning which was before the cut-off was announced and because I don't read the news announcements several times a day I only found out about the cut-off the following morning (I actually played about 40 games before the cut-off anyway as it happens, if it had been announced the day before I'd have hit the 50 easily). Regardless of that the cut-off for the 50 games was supposed to be the end of CBT, not a few days before that, and anyway when you're told "While we can’t tell you exactly how much time you still have to achieve the set goals, rest assured we are giving you enough time to do so and we’ll let you know the exact end date at a later time." you do expect more than a few hours prior notice.

This is ridiculous - sudden CBT end/Betaship

You're missing the context that (2) was said in the light of (1), they're not separate issues. A few hours notice isn't reasonable anyway, look at the complaints that are made over on the WOT forums about the players only being notified of special events the previous day. There wasn't even that much notice in this case. Also as regards (3) it says ship not ships and for context the entire paragraph reads: "Why not come on board while you still can get those 50 battles under your belt and get an exclusive ship? By purchasing one of the pre-order packages in the Premium Shop you are not only getting an access to the Closed Beta test, you are also getting a ship that will not be available in game or in the shop for quite some while after the CBT phase is over." This clearly refers to the Arkansas. Irrelevant to the discussion I'm afraid. It's the gap between what was said would happen and what did that is at issue here. Seriously I'd rather have some recognition that a mistake was made rather than have the ship. If it isn't recognised as an error it'll happen again.

The fact it's old doesn't mean that something it says can be ignored, it's not a matter of timescales it's a matter of consistency. I'll try again with a very simple one: "At the end of Closed Beta phase, a wipe of your in-game progress will take place to create fair conditions for everyone who will join after the start of Open Beta. However, there are significant benefits to those who have participated actively in the testing and apart from the Tier IV US battleship Arkansas, these are the following benefits... While we can’t tell you exactly how much time you still have to achieve the set goals, rest assured we are giving you enough time to do so and we’ll let you know the exact end date at a later time." At the end of closed beta, not before the end of closed beta. And as for being misled: "While we can’t tell you exactly how much time you still have to achieve the set goals, rest assured we are giving you enough time to do so and we’ll let you know the exact end date at a later time... Why not come on board while you still can get those 50 battles under your belt and get an exclusive ship?... By purchasing one of the pre-order packages in the Premium Shop you are not only getting an access to the Closed Beta test, you are also getting a ship that will not be available in game or in the shop for quite some while after the CBT phase is over." Seriously, you can't see my point there? All they had to do was actually "let you know the exact end date at a later time" with more than a few hours notice and I wouldn't be annoyed. Chances are I would have still bought the package anyway I just wouldn't be a bit peeved right now. I don't see this as malevolence on WG's part or anything daft like that, it's just not good practice.

Try reading what I actually wrote: "I'm not annoyed that I didn't get the ship, I'm annoyed at being misled. Seriously, all WG has to do is stick to what's been previously said and give proper notice of things like cut-offs to prevent aggravating the customer base like this." I'd actually rather have a admission that they messed up than have the ship at this point. In the long term that would work out better for me (and everyone else for that matter) because they might learn from it, stick to what they say in future and give proper notice.

This is ridiculous - sudden CBT end/Betaship

I'm sorry Tuccy but this doesn't really address the points I made in post 78. To reiterate: Furthermore if as you say "Bear in mind that the purpose of the reward is to reward players who put in the time over the time - it was not to be a goal of last minute grind" then why was this said? "Why not come on board while you still can get those 50 battles under your belt and get an exclusive ship?" I'm not annoyed that I didn't get the ship, I'm annoyed at being misled. Seriously, all WG has to do is stick to what's been previously said and give proper notice of things like cut-offs to prevent aggravating the customer base like this.
