Whats so low because they "spam" them the average damage or the hit rate? Since you have 0 games played in DDs I will discard your comments on what it takes to play a DD. Adding duds (and torpedoes that wildly go off course) will only reduce the amount of damage that a DD can do, which isnt something that they need.

For USN DDs I have: 1. Situational Awareness (+BFT) 2. Last Stand (+Torpedo Armament Expertise) 3. Superintendent 4. Demolition Expert 5. Concealment Expert I already have a high survival rate in USN DDs so I chose Demo Expert to increase my damage output, if you feel otherwise Survivability Expert is a good choice. I dont have much of a problem with torpedoes and 3 charges is usually enough so Vigilance could be taken instead of Superintendent.

Torpedoes have a <10% hit rate compared to shells having a >30% hit rate, you can also put out more shells in a match compared to torpedoes. Destroyers are the lowest class by average damage on nearly every tier. What would adding all of this RNG to torpedoes add to, except frustration? The type 93 was also nearly invisible when running in the water, in game it is spotted by any plane overhead, realism != fun game play. I am sure you would love main gun hit rates of ~5%. If you want to make torpedoes more like shells, you could start by increasing their speed and shortening their reload and then adding similar RNG to shells.

The secondaries will only fire on designated targets. So the secondaries on the other side of your ship wont fire.

Perhaps game should have some sinking graphics or indicator.

So you want people to stop shooting a target because they are flooding? Even with an indicator thats not going to happen. The faster an enemy is dead the better. -
So do DDs need a nerf to their damage? They already are the worst performing damage wise. Thats all adding the possibility of duds will do to torpedoes.

But sure we won that game in the end, even after one of our CVs was sniped (still not quite sure how though ). MM was a bit odd in that game anyway.

At least you are playing it after the torpedo stealth buff and when CVs arent as common. It was terrible back in the OBT.

Why expert marksman on USN DDs? The turrets already turn quickly Last stand is better to pick up as your first level 2, torpedo armament expertise can be gotten as a second later. -

Thats the Fubuki C hull. The Kagero C only adds small caliber AA, which was nerfed last patch.

Well I'll make my opinion of the Gearing when I get to it. I also plan on keeping the Fletcher anyway. I have lost turrets plenty of times in the Shimakaze, Kagero and Fubuki. But experiences differ. IJN DD guns are your best weapon against enemy DDs. I play quite aggressively and use my guns often so I might be placing a higher value on them than most other IJN DD captains. USN DDs start using their torpedoes more at higher tiers. They become your primary weapon against larger ships (mainly BBs). Most of the damage I deal in the Benson and Fletcher come from the torpedoes. Losing guns definitely means I play more passively, not being able to deal with enemy DDs is a problem, and is my least favourite mechanic in the game.

Well you are missing a few things here. USN DDs can have low detection ranges similar to IJN DDs, Benson and Fletcher ~5.8km. Gearing ~5.9km, Fubuki ~5.5km, Kagero ~5.3km, Shimakaze ~5.9km. USN DDs also take on a more torpedo boat role like IJN DDs at high tiers, starting from the Mahan you can stealth torp and the Fletcher has some of the best torpedoes in the game (havent reached the Gearing yet but the torpedoes dont look bad). Losing guns varies from game to game, IJN guns are invincible either and are lost quite easily as well. Numerous times I have have turrets destroyed and no HP damage in IJN DDs. This isnt a USN DD problem it is a DD problem. Dodging torpedoes is less about reaction and more about prediction. It is best to try and have you bow/stern pointed in the direction of incoming torpedoes (this is less doable in bigger ships). When engaging other DDs turn towards or away from him in between shots especially if you are broadside on. Vigilance is also available if you need more help.
