It would also be fun to see how a full-fledged, mid-tier destroyer, with those RN flavoured single-drop torpedo launchers, would work out in the game!

Spotter planes - waste of time, change the mechanic
Procrastes replied to ZandersMcGrooby's topic in General Discussion
Huh. Maybe it does? If so, boy, will I feel sheepish...! -
If the Campbeltown is any indication, we might possibly expect weaker guns, but stronger torpedoes, than on same-tiered US and Russian destroyers.

Spotter planes - waste of time, change the mechanic
Procrastes replied to ZandersMcGrooby's topic in General Discussion
As I wrote in my post above, an option to switch between the birds-eye view and normal view while the spotter plane is active, would be very welcome. I believe this has been suggested several times before on this forum; although I do not know whether there has been a response from the WG staff. -
Spotter planes - waste of time, change the mechanic
Procrastes replied to ZandersMcGrooby's topic in General Discussion
The spotter in the Perth is extremely useful - apart from giving a much-needed extension to the pitiful gun range, it allows the ship to see out of her own smoke. As for the birds-eye view, it is useful in order to target ships that are obscured by islands. It would be very welcome, however, if it were made possible to switch between the birds-eye view and normal view while the spotter plane is active. -
Nice! Beautiful lines! Looking forward to more information on in-game stats!

I can't do well in higher tier battleships
Procrastes replied to Ronnielox's topic in General Discussion
Don't write that even as a joke, man. Someone fresh to the game will read it and believe it and grind all battleship lines from tier II to X doing only this and whenever someone asks him to stop he'll just go, "shutup n00b there was totally this dude on the forum that said to do it like this and he was a betatester and all so wut do u know?!!!". And the pain will go on. -
I always get a laugh out of all those cute little Lilliput towns on the islands in the game. I think I understand why they have to model the surroundings in this scale, but... still funny.

A Scandinavian tech tree would be fun! As the first tier V premium of that tree, we could mount a dragon's head and a red-and-white striped square sail on the Okhotnik, and call her Ormen Långe.* She looks kinda like a Viking longship already, with those low, elegant lines, next to no superstructure, and the guns oddly reminiscent of oars... *https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ormen_Lange_(longship)

Exactly this. I like to team up with some good friends, one with a Hatsuharu (I guess he's now going to switch to the new tier VII Nippon DD) and the other with a Blyskawica of his own. The IJN DD buddy does precisely the above, taking his time to put one torpedo after the other into the enemy, as the latter is busy failing to nail my Blyska. The Blyska/Blyska team-up is also great, and surprisingly effective. (And since my Blyska buddy doesn't yet have the CE skill, he's usually the one to get spotted first. I've learned not to sail too close to him as we bear down on the enemy fleet.)

Independence (1/1/1) : 20Independence (0/2/1) : 11Independence (2/1/0) : 20New Mexico : 21Cleveland : 21Farragut : 21 + 1 = 22. A good, solid multi-purpose destroyer. Here are my two cents on the Hood AA Buff Issue One good way to sell a premium ship is to give it a special gimmick. If that is done well, it is also generally good for the game, since it introduces a new game element. A good example of this is the special smoke generator on the Perth. Together with the unusually large gas tank on the little Walrus spotter plane (it can stay airborne for much longer than other scout planes in the game), this gives the Perth a truly unique playstyle, without making it OP in any way. This, in my mind, is an excellent way to design a special premium ship. Another way of making a premium 'special' is to buff one or more characteristics to an unusual degree. An example of this could be the guns on the Imperator Nikolai, that have considerably better accuracy than on most (or even all?) other battleships. Buffing a major feature on a ship is risky, however. The Imperator Nikolai is widely considered to be one of the more OP ships in the game; so much so, in fact, that it was removed from the store fairly quickly after its release. Buffing a less important characteristic is far less risky, from a game balance perspective. Giving a ship better AA, for example, will only directly affect the combat capabilities versus carrier attack and spotting planes. If the range of that buffed AA was also lessened to such a degree that it would only affect attacks on that single ship - that is, the buffed AA bubble would never be able to protect another allied ship - the effect on game balance would be even less. But the shipshopkeeper would still be able to advertise that there is a "NEW SHIP in store, with a SECRET WEAPON - MAGIC AA MISSILES!". It follows from what I've just said, that I, personally, doubt that the Hood will be an OP ship - irrespective of her improved AA suit. For that matter, tweaking the AA defense capabilities to highlight certain premium ships has been done in the past as well. One example is the Yubari, which is still, as far as I know, the only tier IV ship that has the 'Defensive AA' consumable. She is a fun ship to drive, but she's a far cry from being from OP, even after her special accuracy gun modification has been taken into consideration.

Regardless of personal opinions and motivations, any kind of "premium boycott" or other such measure seems unlikely to make Wargaming less inclined to put juicy new premiums up for sale. The reason being, Wargaming is not a non-profit organisation, but an online computer gaming company. It needs to bring in money, not only to make a profit for its shareholders, but also to pay the salaries for the staff and other expenses. This, in turn, is part of the reason* why I keep shelling out for pretty new ships (and tanks), as well as the odd flag bundle. As long as the game is fun to play, I want it to remain alive and kicking! That said, keeping the various ships and game elements balanced is of vital importance for this game to work. Constructive feedback from the consumer base - i.e., us! - is crucial. So keep it up! *The other part of the reason is, of course, that I have become an inveterate and compulsive collector, but that's somewhat beside the point, here.

Independence (1/1/1) : 20Independence (0/2/1) : 17 - 3 = 14. Penalized with 19 pinky games for 1 TK torpedo ?!
Procrastes replied to EdiJo's topic in General Discussion
Intentionally bumping into pink allies, with the explicit aim to extend the duration of their pink, is just another way of doing team damage - but this time, with clear and malicious intent. Short of watching the episode play out - in "free-flight, post-being-sunk mode, for instance - there is no way to determine how a pink player got his pink. Thus I always assume that the penalty was the result of a mistake, rather than intentional wrong-doing, just as I hope that others will give me the same benefit of the doubt. Acting otherwise would just promote unnecessary bad feeling and strife. It should also be stressed that unlike in World of Tanks, the TK colour does never give you the right to attack an ally. The string of events that lead to the penalty, and the degree of personal culpability of the pink player in question, is in this context irrelevant. -
Penalized with 19 pinky games for 1 TK torpedo ?!
Procrastes replied to EdiJo's topic in General Discussion
I've been pink a few times, never due to intentional team damage but due to actions that were clearly my own fault - such as dropping torpedoes without making absolutely sure that no ally could possibly get in their way. So the penalty was well deserved. In fact, the only occasion I've seen or heard of, where the team killing penalty was in my opinion thoroughly undeserved, was when a ship's secondaries fired automatically at an enemy, accidentally set fire to an ally that sailed close by, and said ally then burned to death. It was shown in a Jingles video a year or so ago. If that had happened to me, I'd have probably sent a ticket to support and asked for vindication. -
I can't do well in higher tier battleships
Procrastes replied to Ronnielox's topic in General Discussion
I have never have much luck with any American battleship above and beyond the Arkansas Beta (which was the ship I got my first Kraken in). But this is due to my lack of skill at gunnery, not to American battleships being deficient. Since I don't hit very much of what I aim at anyway, the German battleships fit me perfectly. They have the rate of fire to ignore the pain of a missed salvo, the armour to laugh at the accurate return salvoes of my frustrated enemy, and the speed to get in his face and shove my barrels right down his smokestacks* so close that even I cannot miss the target. And for desserts: Torpedoes! * Sorry, that came out wrong. -
