Cleveland : 34Farragut : 20 Arizona : 9 - 3 = 6. With the mighty Bayern gone, how can the Arizona hope to remain?Shinonome : 17 Mutsu : 19 Ryūjō (1/2/2) : 8Fusō : 15Aoba: 22Fubuki : 20Graf Spee : 21Warspite : 16Leander : 26Molotov : 15Budyonny : 9 + 1 = 10. I can't believe that the Budyonny has taken so much of a pounding in this list. The humungous turning radius, coupled with the usual barn-size cruiser citadel, is her only weakness - and it's a much-needed one.Dunkerque : 7Duca d'Aosta : 26Perth : 35

PVE Scenarios (S1): Which ships for which missions?
Procrastes replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
The Anshan is basically the Gremyaschy, on a higher tier and with worse rudder shift. So yeah, I can see how she would prod buttock in this scenario - the Gremyaschy's guns are deadly against broadside cruisers! -
It's going to be tier 6, from what I've heard. It's a good and diverse tier, without so many controversial premiums. On that last note: I am still hoping to see the HMS Gallant arrive in time for this season of ranked battles!

PVE Scenarios (S1): Which ships for which missions?
Procrastes replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
I think we should wait for the "Hard" difficulty setting to arrive, before determining whether the scenario is too easy or not. -
Cleveland : 37Farragut : 20 Arizona : 12 - 3 = 9. Good gun layout and well armoured, but too slow.Shinonome : 17 Mutsu : 19 Ryūjō (1/2/2) : 8Fusō : 15Aoba: 21Fubuki : 20Graf Spee : 24Warspite : 16Leander : 26Molotov : 14Budyonny : 7 + 1 = 8. DeGrasse: To buy or not to buy....

Great opening post, OP! And thanks for bringing a sense of humour to the forum, as well! -

Has her own playstyle, that is both unique and balanced. (Also, koalas!)

Well, I'd say your opinion is probably more well-founded than mine, in this case. With the exception of the Arkansas Beta - that got me my first kraken - I have not had much luck in any of my USN battleships, and so I have not played them very much. I have the Arizona, and I like her gun layout in principle - but I never seem to do well in her. I don't have the New Mexico, and I guess I just assumed that the comparable premium was at least as good as the silver counterpart.

PVE Scenarios (S1): Which ships for which missions?
Procrastes replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
I don't know if this is typical, but I aced 'Operation Aegis' with five stars on the second try, in my Budyonny. The sheer number of citadels I got on those poor, broadside robot cruisers was staggering. I got a lot more incoming fire than in my Perth, for obvious reasons, but not enough to sink me. And having pushed ahead to spot those three enemy carriers in the last stage of the game, the range and fire power of the Budyonny was more than enough to secure the secondary objective of sinking them, as well. Normally I'd say that my team won in spite of me - I am at best a mediocre player - but I actually finished top of my team. So I must have done something right! Anyway, kudos to Wargaming for a very entertaining PvE scenario! -
Port "Ocean" - let the ships cruise the ocean
Procrastes replied to Cpt_Andre's topic in General Discussion
What a great idea! -
True! But on the other hand, the goal is not to survive the battle, but to win with the maximum number of stars (and have fun doing it). Tanking just enough damage to remain afloat while keeping your allies alive, is part of the core duties for any battleship. So a tendency for bots to focus fire on the battleships can be to everyone's advantage - if the allied cruisers back you up!
-
Which only goes to show, that Wargaming has managed the balance between silver and premium very well here!

Thanks! -
As far as I know, the Perth has got the same 152 mm guns as most every other cruiser at that tier. So 'IFHE' should work out fine on her, shouldn't it? If anyone has another opinion, I would be very interested to hear it, since 'IFHE' was my choice for the first level 4 skill!
-
Oh, come on...?! I love the Perth, she's easily one of my favourite ships, but giving her access to heal would make her overpowered as hell - not to mention that it would totally screw over the Leander. The Perth is perfect as she is - she has a gameplay that is both unique and balanced. Let's keep her that way!

Interesting. I am trying to learn how to play and position myself in a CV, so I eagerly read all I can about these things. And I have a question: If you follow the best AA ships around, and move with the fleet, won't it bring you in range of fire from the enemy fleet? A CV that pops up over the horizon, tends to get focus fired very quickly! -
The Perth would probably be a solid choice even without the special smoke skill. With it... yes, I think that could be entertaining. And then we have that trademark Perth division manoeuver: "the Conga Line of Smoking Death". Reputedly, it takes at least three Perth cruisers to pull off effectively. I am going to badger some friends of mine into purchasing this ship, and then we shall see!

The best World of Warships quote, ever, must be the one from that Jingles video where half the enemy team is steamrolling down one side of the map, and the green team desperately tries to get their carrier to move. Green Team Member: "Lost right flank, several ships incoming, carrier plz move." Carrier Player: "You're new to this game, right? Carriers don't move. We've got planes." This answer alone would probably have caused me to write off the carrier player, in more than one category and for several independently sufficient reasons. His good team members in this battle, however, don't give up on him. They continue pleading with him, for several minutes, trying to get him to move away from his approaching doom. He won't have it. He faithfully sticks to his position, tactically and geographically, until sunk under a massive hail of gunfire from the opposing team. No one loses their temper; the altercation remains civil throughout the whole, sadly fascinating episode. Jingles makes it all into great entertainment, outlining - at length - the tactical and strategical differences between airfields, that don't move, and carriers, that do. It's quite simply hilarious. I shall have to try and find that old video on youtube; it's got to be well over a year old by now. -
The Arizona is "massively inferior" to the New Mexico? Then I got things all wrong, here. That's good to know. And yet the New Mexico has lagged behind her premium cousin in the list, not only due to my latest post. I wonder why that is...?

Inverted Elimination Thread: The worst ships in the game
Procrastes replied to DDMafiaAssociateMember's topic in General Discussion
Mikasa: 8 - 3 = 5. Smith: 12 Emerald: 15 Krasny Krym: 20 + 1 = 21 All fighter setup CVs: 13 Campbeltown: 15 Nürnberg: 13 Albany: 16 New Orleans:10 La Galissonière : 15 T22: 15 Incidentally, it's interesting to hear the Smith described as a "fun little destroyer". The fun factor is why I love the Tachibana, and I've sometimes regretted not buying the Smith - but a friend of mine, who did, has no kind words at all to say for her.- 7 replies

My choices for tier VI ranked battles Destroyer: The Farragut. Cruiser: The Perth. Battleship: The Bayern. (I don't have a tier VI carrier.)
-
You can set fire to the enemy, perhaps, and then "stroke him [his superstructure] with AP"? (I stole that wonderful line from Yuro; see his video on "How to Scharnhorst") But I agree, in a one-on-one, and all else being equal, I'd say that the Bayern is probably the stronger ship.

Mikasa/Pre-Dreadnought Appreciation Fleet
Procrastes replied to Close_Quarters_Expert's topic in Other
I am currently defending the honour (and other qualities) of the Mikasa, in an inverse Elimination Thread on the Gameplay forum. Feel free to pitch in! (Note: This is not strictly a call to arms. It's more a kind of notification of an ongoing minor skirmish.) http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/70460-inverted-elimination-thread-the-worst-ships-in-the-game/- 102 replies
