it has no real effect. it's there just for your better feeling, emotional vent..."he was mean to me! reported"
-
hoods aa defensive fire would work just fine if it would be just decreasing accuracy of the bombers. it should not increase damage output or very slightly. it would be also more historical since those rockets were rather distracting than really effective weapon

she belongs in the game timeline wise: the game starts roughly in 1900 but pre-dreadnoughts deviate way to much from rock&paper&scissor concept because of their unusual armament. same case with armored cruisers - no armored cruiser is in the game a probably never will since they are somewhere between battleship and cruiser, but pretty much cruisers on steroids - stronger brothers of st.louis and there is nothing like "just collectors ship" - every ship should work in the game

there will be always problem what to do with pre-dreadnoughts, but we will probably never see another again. also with recent mm changes mikasa can not be top tier anymore which made her even worse...to help her right now i would give her secondaries extra 1 km and i think she should also get her torpedos: rather slow (30knts) and short range (4km) and also bonus for ramming (as her bow was strenghten for that) -> give her identity as dedicated brawler and scary ship at close range. now she is somewhere in a half way. that could get her real edge over dreadnoughts in close combat situations while in longer range duels will dreadnoughts have always the upper hand . she could be then really dangerous at certain spots - like B cap at solomon islands

HMS Hood (1940 version) inbound as T7 Premium BB
puxflacet replied to ShortySunderland's topic in Battleships
i agree that suddenly worsening gun dispersion is weird but it is the only parameter you can assign to effect of the targeting difficulties of the fcs crew. the real consequences would be something like wrong rangefinding and worse leading (firing offset the reticle) which would simply mean that you can not hit the ship - that would not work. also since gun elevation is automatic in this game, ranging has no use other that assuring that you are in range to fire or spot i had a theory that camos (but if properly made - not the ones we have now) could work in this game as they worked in real life if there would be wind which would drag the smoke from smokestack in constant direction and would not help player to determine the heading of the ship. but i guess that would be way too hardcore for the masses -
HMS Hood (1940 version) inbound as T7 Premium BB
puxflacet replied to ShortySunderland's topic in Battleships
actually, wg indicates from other features that player is not in full control of targeting systems: first of all rangefinding a gun elevation is automatic and second there is effect of camouflages which increases dispersion which should be interpreted that fcs crew was a bit dazzled by the camo -
yeah. probably wont ever see another ship with mixed caliber main armament (mikasa), but that's not just a case with radetzky... and radetzky was not ill-conceived - most naval powers were building semi-dreadnoughts when dreadnought was launched (british King Edward VII and Lord Nelson; Russian Andrei Pervozvanny; Japanese Katori, Satsuma, and Kawachi, American Connecticut and Mississippi, French Danton, Italian Regina Elena) but yeah, a-h battleships tend to be a bit weaker than their contemporaries but that had reasons, mainly because of limited budget for naval ministry and also limited shipbuilding capacities. she actually had some resourceful features despite these limitations. and a-h certainly isnt the last navy to built their own dreadnought. france made their first dreadnought after a-h ... outdated yes, but that was every battleship after dreadnought was launched. do not take conclusions from this video, because author does not see bigger perspective (gosh, he even says that hms dreadnought had impressive secondaries! she had literally none) he also relates problems of all pre-dreadnouts just to radetzky

youre right. my bad

the sad part is that they are focusing the "hunt for bismarck" campaign around receiving historical camouflages for bismarck and hood...this is really fail. not sure what they will do about it, because they are literally lying to people - definitely in hood's case....bismarck's yellow turrets werent ever completelly proven afaik (and probably were yellow just on top) but i must admit that this photo maybe indicates that something was going on with bismarck's turret paint nevertheless, wg is saying in the camo description that it should be from 19th may when bismarck was leaving gotenhaven. but when she was leaving gotenhaven, she still had full baltic camo
-
we are talking about this cooked up skin about which wg is saying that it is how hood looked when she was facing bismarck
-
but the point is that they are claiming that the camo is historical. which is imho garbage
-
it's really strange. wg proves that they can do quite extensive research about ship's physical appearance, but it looks like the department responsible for camouflages is lead by completelly different people, who do their own "research" EDIT: ...but now i realize they did some weird errors in ship models too, so nvm...
-
well just take a look a the link i posted. there is quite extensive analysis...but nothing about hood in blue&red&white - this just doesnt seem authentic to me. neither the shades nor the fact that RN would ever used anything like that
-
i believe its dark grey...the photo itself has bluish tint there is comparison from http://www.hmshood.com/hoodtoday/models/tips/hoodpaint.htm
-
i just saw this on a youtube and im really puzzled. i guess it refers about the blue&red&white camo (which should be a reward in the upcoming campaign) but i certainly never ever saw hood in these colors on any picture
-
i guess... http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/62356-dreadnought-era-appreciation-thread/ http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?showtopic=56307 ...but i think all of these american bbs had them even after refit but japanese mostly removed them (except fuso?)...about low tier germans we can only speculate since most of their bbs are in hypothetical configurations mikasa is the only bb which should have them in game imho. and in fact every pre-dreadnought if any other will be added. because i think they should be dedicated brawlers...but wg will probably never touch her again
-
yeah, that was actually my point: they were useless irl but would be definitely useful in the game...i just had to comment some opinions above, since i'm kinda allergic to simple statement that these tubes had practically no real function but most of these stock hulls are gone and you have bbs only in their 1930's+ configurations when the submerged tubes were removed: for example kongo, nagato and i bet even amagi in her only configuration would not have torpedo tubes.
-
there should be definitely option to switch between measurement systems. not a big deal imho...i was always used to gun caliber in inches and i'm from a country with metric system
-
they were not useless but not usable as said - after dreadnought no battleship was supposed to be closer to its target than 10 km (rare occasions like guadalcanal night fight and bismarck execution couldnt justify the existence of these tubes). another myth is that you had to aim those torpedos with whole ship - no, the torpedos had gyro-angle mechanism. same as submarine launched ones. so unlimited firing arc if bbs ever should have them in the game, i would limit their use to bb brawl only - 4km range, rather slow...but im probably against the idea, because bbs already have the hard-hitting force in their guns. with torpedos they would have way too strong edge over the other ships in close combat situations minor note: many of these battleship you listed no longer had torpedo tubes in configuration in which they are in the game
-
i would love the dark grey with white blast bags. so classy. hood was always such elegant ship...but no, she has to look like a vagabond or 1980's fitness trainer
-
you know, because literally every youtuber was making fun of her because of her "camo", so she has to receive one
-
geezus...i dont get you guys. if ship recieves classy monochromatic paint youre b*tching. when she looks like old rusted bucket you like it ugh. the colors seems to be way too bright. literally hurting my eyes...also i dont like the fake swastika. looks a bit dumb and i dont get the hood's camo. whats this suppose to be? if she must have some camo, i would pick some amiralty disruptive pattern
-
that's interesting idea...and indeed i miss plain color skins(camouflages) options (someone already mentioned mountbatten pink in other thread recently). but people seems to have little understanding for this and tend to b*tch about it - like with prinz eugen initial camo which made quite a fuss (sadly because she looked great in it) some ships just look very classy in plain naval grey imho
