FDR has fighters which it spawns and also as a consumable. Just not on the Rocket planes.

I bumped into FDR while playing Richtofen yesterday in ranked. We both had the idea to snipe each other right from the start. I survived to somewhere around a quarter HP, and he didn't take damage from any other ship. My team won. FDR can definitely snipe Richtofen. The bombs hurt and they penetrate MvR's flight deck. The torps also hurt. Rockets will do less but can penetrate large areas of side hangar to finish of a nearly dead MvR. However, MvR has a big edge in the sniping game. It has much faster planes, it's not even a contest. That speed, combined with the massive rocket damage potential means that MvR can simply kill the FDR faster. Torps also play a role and they're very easy to land hits, usually you'll do around 10k per drop. In addition, MvR doesn't care about fighters. You can pre-drop comfortably for minimal losses and the planes are too fast to care. In contrast, FDR's big weakness is fighters. You can't pre-drop effectively with her, squadrons are huge and her planes are slow. With sound fighter management from MvR, FDR strikes will be limited to first drop before having to bail(Which takes away one of her strengths and forces her to fly all the way back to you slowly) and with manoeuvring you can of course mitigate the impact of the strike further while FDR has a much harder time trying to dodge your rockets into his side and your easy-to-land torps.

Eventually it's going to make its way into the game in some form. We've already had something of a preview in the past(Cherry Blossom OP). IIRC it's just one of those shelved things for now. I look forward to seeing it before I die, maybe.

It's not my intention to be confrontational but I'm rather curious. You were quite excited at the prospect of getting FDR up until it actually got confirmed for steel. Now it's an ''abomination which all classes suffer from, including other CVs.'' Is it because it's for steel and therefore, as you claimed to me, somehow out of your reach? Sigh. Oh, Beastie boy.

Use the top planes ie the researchable ones. Except for plane regen they are better in every respect. Even then, the difference between regen is offset by the fact that the stock planes are weaker, slower and easier to down, so banking on that return is questionable. Some stock planes have different attack patterns relative to top. eg Audacious bombers stock drop less bombs per flight but have a smaller reticule, and top drop more over a larger reticule. In this case I tested both, the difference is interesting but top is still significantly better. You'll deal more damage faster and you'll sink ships faster.

In hindsight I removed flanks from my post actually, since sometimes given the nature of this ship it's actually better just to sit around spawn initially and snipe people that get spotted moving to the flanks as you'll have their sides, more or less.

The tactic is trying to snipe broadsides from range, unfortunately that's all this ship can do and it's anaemic at everything else. If the enemy is paying even a little attention it's totally worthless. It's an extremely one-dimensional ship with difficulties influencing game outcomes and imo frustrating to play.

Perhaps the one premium I actually regret buying, despite my love of the French BBs and BBs in general. The ship is garbage to me. I'd take Gascogne over it any day.

Beastie just stop. You might be disappointed FDR is for steel, but there's no need for you to be jealous. It's like 24k with coupon. You want it? Make an effort like the rest. If you can't join a CB clan because of night-shift or other obligations there is always ranked. So just drop that idea of Steel walls. Any potato can get enough steel to buy anything.

Watched all the latest round of FDR videos already Watching the CCs play it though was honestly a little painful. Very potato CV players.
