[0.8.0] First CV rework tweaks and changes
eXiLeCccP replied to Sub_Octavian's topic in Development Blog
Thanks, for a couple of days I was growing mad and took the way out. Fortunately I have way too many hobbies so I will fill the time with something else in the meantime. I guess and understand this update was politically pushed from the top. It's no secret WoT doesn't bring the money it used to and WoWs never managed to reach the same place but at least it was not WoP or Total War Arena (or another game that closed down). They started milking and pushing the marketing and even though they will deny it the CV rework could have been used for consoles as well. But still, they have the money, they have the resources and they rely on a community and user base. I had and pushed shitty updated and functionalities more than once in Corporate environments and had to clean someone else's mess even more often but this is by no means an acceptable practice. Not after 3 years of a Game in open beta. Well it happened and [edited]it. I hope they swallow their pride and just remove the CVs. They can even leave the new AA and disable some features. As for Eastern European logic and midset is a very hard topic to grasp as is working with different cultures. -

I guess he wanted to say "Git Gud" or something similar. Same replies that told me I was immagining my Des Moines AA was way weaker and in no way in 10 games I could feel the difference. AA works and you don't know to to use it. Right... -
[0.8.0] First CV rework tweaks and changes

Honestly this hot-fix is too little, too late. I had my doubts about CV rework as flak was RNG & potato dependent and even without having played PTS it was clear this was not tested enough. Then at Day1 the UI and game felt laggy, to an extentent I even did a clean install to fix the issue. Played 2 CV games and the spam of planes was disgusting, in one game I got rekt by AA and then DD rushed (team went lemming train and it took me too long to notice). But eeven with 2 games it was clear you can abuse the new mechanics and the spotting potential is within 30 seconds you can spot and engage. The CVs of old would maybe lift the first squadron by that time. Went to play my other ships, mainly T8-T9 as I was running the missions for Halsley. Now I tried and play a bunch, got called ignorant and whiny kid when trying to discuss just why this felt bad if I was the only one. Then came a few games with players to after 2 days learned to abuse the mechanics. I felt powerless. No matter the skills, the flags, the positioning. I wasn't doing that much more badly (I am average 58% players who plays randoms for fun after work and sometimes in the WE) but this was not fun, not at all. In fact I re-trained all my captains, demounted some modules and uninstalled yesterday the game. I will come back for not for a while. The damage is done, DDs, spotting, agresive pushes are dead and passive play and damage avoiding, "sniping" is in. I think the honest thing to do is admit defeat as this is literaly the WORST version of the game in 3 years, and I have seen and played some OP crap and been on the receiving end as well. But this was a bit too much, too reckless. Remove the CVs from the general population, work on the other ships and create a super test in production. Just don't let it finish like GZ AP bombs (or US AP bombs for that matter). Give it to a few player selected by stats clustering and give them real rewards and listen. If they say is crap, and more than 1 person does listen. I work in ICT Corporate environment so I know how this job of "user expectation" management is a black hole for the soul but I will not accept to be treated as a beta tester for something which wasn't properly tested. Band-aid fixes will not work as the changes and impacts are huge on the meta. Also you decided to put them with other commencement related nerfs which by themselves required balancing even before CV rework. The fact that a lot of people just finished the PEF and Prinz Eitel grind did not help either. For a publisher like WG, a developer like LESTA this feels as wishful thinking at best, malicious intent at worst. A realiance on "авось" and self-reinforcing your conceptions. I was born in USSR, so I know the russian way of thinking very intimately. CVs and their impact on the game have been huge, and even if this rework cost a lot of resources I think the sane thing to do is to put it on hold. In Italian there is an expression: "Errare è umano, perseverare è diabolico". To make mistakes is human, repeating them is diabolical. There were a lot of awesome changes in the last period, some mistakes and questionable decisions, but we liked and persevered despite the short comings. Don't try and fool us or yourselves some small changes by working 24 hours a day (I have been there) will fix such a complex issue. This needs to go back to the drawing board and start from the fundamental question: "Even though CVs and airplanes have changed Naval Warfare, how many people are interested in playing them? And how many are we interested to lose to gain those players?" We know games without CVs work, is it really worth it to "push" them rather than making Italian CL/CA & DD & BB lines, French DDs, Russian BBs I will watch from afar as I had quite a few games I wanted to play of finish, some books to read. I hope there will be a game and a community to come back to.. -
So finally after Russian server we get it on EU. Nice, I was kinda boring hearing it from the russian guys (guilty as charged) the wonderful thing it was the collectors club even though 50 shipsright now is quite easy to do. Still Sasha has 300 or more and will be coming for him.
