Gneisenau vs Bismarck, too similar yet too different, I'm slightly confused.
MRGTB replied to Praevasc's topic in General Discussion
I don't need to own the Bismark to give you advice (on how I wrongly thought BAF and AFT works) on calibre of guns. FFS, the gun specs for any ship is listed right there on WOW WIKI. So why do I need to own it to know what guns it uses? You wasn't asking how to sail and play the ship, you was asking about the secondary gun build. The specs for that are on WOWS WIKI. Also, everyone knows how the Bismark plays (whether you own it or not). It's a brawler that likes to come in close enough to use it's secondary guns. It's main battery guns are nothing special, so needs its secondary guns maxed out for 10-11k bawling. -

Jeez, because it can mean "all secondary guns", as in. They are all covered by the same rule also. And seeing as some ships come with mixed secondary calibre guns. That can be taken to mean - those at 150mm won't be affected (all secondary guns). Not arguing over it further, it is worded wrong. I come from the UK and my native language is English and that is confusing the way they have written it. -

Depends how you look at how that is worded. It says "main battery guns and secondary up to 139mm". I know how that sounds to me, like it saying both guns are covered by the 139mm rule. It should say, to be far more clear. main battery guns with a caliber up to and including 139mm, but all secondary battery guns are excluded from this 139mm rule." -

Oh well, that's a new one on me. The way it's worded in the skills section certainty doesn't give that impression. It says all guns "up to and including 139mm". No mention of guns over that calibre. Nor does it say it affects "all secondary regardless of calibre". So they should reword that better then, it's very misleading. -

Because like I said to you before. Go look at WOWS WIKI for the Bismark and the calibre of secondary guns it's uses. 10 of the secondary guns are 150mm. 8 of them are 105mm. So BAF and AFT is only going to change the 8x 105mm gun. Not all of them, because 10 of the secondary go over the 139mm rule that BAF and AFT is limited to changing. http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Bismarck It's the same thing with the "Gene" you like, some it's secondary are 150mm also that wouldn't be changed by BAF and AFT http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Gneisenau -

Yes, you go install AFT on a DD with main guns under 139mm (which they all have) and it will extend the firing range of the DD main battery guns. But you install AFT on a Cruiser with main battery guns over 139mm (which they all are over it) and you'll see no increase is gained in their shooting distance unlike with a DD. So any guns over 139mm will gain nothing from BAF and AFT. I use AFT on my DD because it extends the main battery firing range. But it doesn't work trying to do the same on a Cruiser because the guns are over 139mm for main battery guns. -

Just keep in mind that there is more secondary guns on the Biz that are 150mm guns (10x). So neither BAF or AFT is going to improve those guns because they go over 139mm that BAF and AFT is limited to improving, it will only effect the 105mm secondary (8x) I say that because take a look on WIKI at something like the Matty B (USA Battleship). All it's secondary come under 139mm, so using BAF and AFT on that ship improves not some (but all it's secondary guns). -

Manually secondary so called makes the secondary guns far more accurate. So guess that skill does increase DMP in a round about way. Really, if you want to build the secondary to maximum. You should take BAF, AFT and Manual Secondary for max range with better DMP and better accuracy. That's 11 points used up. Then decide what you use the other 8 points on? But then there is also IFHE skill for 4 points as well. Pretty sure that skill can make the secondary guns better on pen up to (139mm again). So you can end up using 15 points just to max the secondary guns out. -

BAF is 3 captain skills, not 4. And that is the only skill that will give secondary a better DMP. AFT does nothing for DMP at 4 points, it only increases the range. -

You should probably take Basic Fire Training also with AFT, as that speeds up the reload of any secondary guns up to 139mm (plus aa guns). And the Biz is all about it's secondary guns, so you want them to fire as fast as possible with BFT. The biz comes with 10x 150mm and 8x 105mm secondary guns,. So the 8x 105mm would get reduced to a faster reload by -10% AFT only extends the range that the guns can fire up to, with the same gun calibre cap at 139mm again (like BAF). But BAF is the skill used with AFT that will give both AA and Secondary a better DMP -

Just do what what I did. Buy a CV to complete the task and then sell it on. Playing CV, other than just to complete the mission directives is pretty boring. Point and click on a map. -

Jeez, how much did that cost you buying 120 mega boxes? -

Wouldn't that mean though that ships with short AA range guns would become more effective if the planes are dropping torps closer in now? Right now it tends to be a case that short range AA on some ships doesn't do them much good because torps usually get dropped outside that short range AA bubble. I get what you say, that you have less time to dodge the torps dropped. But at same time you have more AA guns now coming into action to shoot the planes being closer in. Never mind, edited. Posted this in wrong thread. -
Most Cruisers and DD's have TORPS they can fall back on. All a BB has is its guns to rely on when up-tiered +2 to T10 matches. Most tier 8 BB's tend to lack the shooting range as well that T10 BB can boast shooting at, which also makes it harder for T8 BB to play in T10 matches. They need to go closer in than a T10 BB generally has to do, then they lack the pen usually against another T10 BB that can shred a T8 BB. Not to mention that even some T10 cruisers can outmatch a T8 BB when you move closer in. I got tired of playing T8 BB at T10 too often and feeling like the games are pointless, you don't even want to push forward because you know you're just chicken feed in T10 matches for the big boys sailing a slow ship that's easy spotted. I'd sooner play my T8 DD's in T10 matches than any T8 BB. At least you can still do some serious damage with torps to "any" T10 BB.

Aye okay, see what mean in that. Nope, Jack is not for sale in the Arsenal page after letting him go. But not sure that he ever was listed in the arsenal page for sale, thought only Bert Dunkirk was before I got Jack? Not sure, but didn't think Jack was listed there anyway and can only be got the way we got him.

Well, that is what I mean... I'm not talking about just T7. The other person said it can work at T9 with its guns. Yeah, probably by mostly shooting HE rounds to start fires. Don't see why not looking at the gun calibre and fire chance of the HE rounds used in T9 battles. But you dismiss its guns as not being effective at T9 because you think HE should not be used in T9 matches - saying only suckers use HE all the time. Well if T9 battles dictate that HE is the only real effective ammo to use from the Nelson, then that is what you use then. You don't write the guns off just because the AP rounds might be lackluster at T9. Look at the T10 conquer BB ship in the Brit tech line. Everyone knows those that use that ship spam HE rounds and not AP because of it's high fire chance. And that is a top T10 Brit BB, well known for doing it.
-
Well, I don't agree with that. 46% fire chance with the Nelson HE guns and you say only suckers will use HE on the Nelson. Nobody seems to like British ships shooting HE at them, but that's only because they know the Brit ships "main perk" with their lackluster AP pen, is to shoot HE instead with a good fire chance - unless at close range - then use AP. You can't be serious that Brit BB's should mainly shoot AP rounds all the time. It's well known that the British BB's don't have that good a AP rounds, especially when shooting at distance with AP. Not compared to something like the USA ships with good AP rounds.
-
Hmm, dunno why but I thought the Dunk had 21k range. The French BB's usually have a good fire range sold as premiums, but yeah, seems looking it's the same as the Nelson then. And yep, you go zig-zag at 24 knots and see how effective it is at making shots miss you.
-
Well actually it sounds like the Jap tech tree would suit you best then. They have the strongest ship in the Yamato
-
Depends on your preferred playing style. What do you actually like best "or want" from a BB the most? Others could then advise you much better on which tech tree to go with.
-
I would think hard on it before getting the Nelson. I can imagine the Dunk is a bit like the Hood - Fast and fun to play, and with decent gun range. While both ships have the same gun layout style, that is where it ends really, and if you don't like playing a slow BB with a firing range that pretty much forces you to go closer in risking being spotted with little chance of escape if out of position. Then you might end up not liking the Nelson. So I would question more if you're going to like playing a slow BB.
-
I would imagine both are pretty much the same really. Both have same gun layout, both are known for having a weak broadside when showing citadel to pen. But the Nelson is slow and has shortish range guns also, which is quite the opposite of the Dunk.
-
If you can zip-zag in a Nelson. You can do something nobody else can. Lmao! The ship is a floating snail.

Buy her a bottle of Russian vodka and she will come a running for it, no need to chase her.
