0.5.3 0.5.3 Balance Changes: AA and Carriers Feedback

No point in ever playing Midway again. As everyone know the USN CV grind is a [edited]until T8, the Lexington is somewhat good as it can at least stand it's ground against IJN CV, it really lacks a good strike setup though. The USN CV line was somehow redeemed at Tier 9 and 10 where the strike setup actually made them worth to play. You are vulnarable to other CVs using more fighter groups but with patience you could make it work and get heavily rewarded by hunting down solo BBs with your two torp groups. Well, now that's gone. I can agree top tier BBs were a bit OP when fighting BBs, especially lower tier BBs but on the other hand, that's the [edited]point of the class. If the CAs actually do their job and escort their BBs CVs as they were are totally fine. Now the game is dumbed down since BBs can happily sail away on their own with no real threat from CVs. The Montana and Yamato was a struggle already as it was since you have to drop the torps from such a range (in order not to loose all the planes) that's a lot easier to manoeuvre away from them. Consequences from this change is that the INJ top tier CVs now are vastly better, they were already tiresome as [edited]with all their groups but now they will be the better choice for all intents and purposes. Even if the US fighter groups are better the IJN captain can just tie these fighters up with his own (doing a calculated risk) to get his strike crafts through. The point of fighters at higher tiers is to get your strike crafts through the enemy air blockade. OFC someone then says, you can always play the air superiority setup but that's not really a valid point, since it 1. helps the team a lot less (being able to heavily dmg BBs are worth a lot more than defending own teams ships since most ships at this tier can regain HP) 2. breaks the in-game economy for the CV players since income mainly comes from dealt dmg, no way i'm gonna loose money every single game in order to play for air superiority (that was not at all what i signed up for when I started the USN CV line). The changes of USN CVs were badly aimed in my opinion, a lot better solution would have been buffing most ships AA-ability, especially when targeting a unit, make self-defense an active act of survival. For example I approach a lonely Montana with two torp groups (12 planes), if he decides to do nothing he might be able to kill 2-3 planes i can still hit him for 7-10 torps depending on how good I manual drop (and this is in a best case scenario). If he decides early on to target one of my torp groups he should be able to kill it of before it reaches effective range of a manual drop. That leaves me with one group of 6 planes (maybe 4-5 hits and 1-2 floodings on a good run) even if this also is quite a blow to a Montana's HP pool he can still regain his HP six (6!) times with a premium repair party consumable. Keep in mind that a successful torp attack takes at least 2-3 minutes (sometimes more) to perform I don't really think that amount of dmg is gamebreaking. How much dmg would a Yamato be able to cause the Montana in the same time? Still my main point is that no team should leave their BBs alone, if the Montana in the example above had one or two CA friends most of my planes would be dead and I would only inflict a minor dmg (if i hit at all calculating the air defensive consumable). To sum this up, in my opinion this change dumbs the game down a lot. It favors unskilled players that don't really have a clue of that their doing since no sane CV player should attack groups of enemy ships (even in the last patch that was suicide). Why should the game favor these BB players that obviously don't understand their role in the game? Instead of making the CVs worse, make them harder to play and increase the skill cap for all classes. The part of this (and most other PVP games) is the feeling of being better than your opponent. Clueless BBs should be sitting ducks while team-working and actively defending enemies should be a [edited]to handle as a CV. And for gods sake, if you are gonna nerf one class of ships then at least make sure it's done properly all over the board, as it stands now the IJN CVs are superior from tier 4-10. This change will lead to two things. 1. The queue timer for high tier carriers will be even longer, I have no interest at all in taking my Midway out to battle and I guess i'm not alone. That leaves us with mainly IJN top tier CVs, i'm not sure about how many of them there are on the servers but the queue time will in many cases exceed 5 minutes which is a, not enjoyable and b, a certain death of CV-class in long term. 2. Since the CVs are gonna disappear from high tier games that also renders AA focused Cruisers useless. Why play a ship which biggest advantage you never get to use? By making carriers this bad you are gonna end up with a game consisting of mainly DDs and BBs since cruisers were kind of "meh" from the beginning not really fulfilling the purpose they were intended to. Ps. I really don't see any point in discussing the DBs since they are no effective weapon at all. Sure, on a big target with lousy AA rating you can maybe hit 2-3 bombs (out of 7 with last captain perk) and cause some fires but this is no real threat. CAs and DDs are pretty much impossible to dmg with DBs anyway (as it should be in my opinion) so getting a extra DB group don't compensate the loss of a torpedo group. Gameplay-wise DBs are a lot more boring as well, one of the few active moments on the map as a CV driver is the manual drops with torps. This change means even less for me to actively do in the game since I mostly run my DBs on auto (hit ratio seems a lot better than manual drop). If this change is gonna stick then at least make it so that you can actually aim the bombs yourself with some skill and not just luck as it currently is. -
I wonder how they fucked up the SLI compatability. Someone just decided it wasn't important and deleted that code? I mean since it was working last patch. Along with USN CV nerfs and hight tier mm (ending up in battles with 3 ships on each team) i'm done with this game and any other wargaming product.
